I can recommend "CoolEdit Pro" which was bought out by Adobe last year. It is now sold as "Adobe Audition". It's a very good mult-track audio editing software package with all the effects. Basically a full recording studio board on your PC. The only drawback - It's expensive.

The simplest explanation for a washer stopping in the middle of the cycle is that the clothes are unevenly distributed in the machine (all the heavy stuff on one side). Try moving them around by hand and see if that works. If not, you'll need a visit from a repair person.
