  1. Bummer to hear that you're sick on what should be such a joyous weekend, and I mean that sincerely.

Here's to a quick recovery and a celebration that will more than make up for it before too long.

    Peace and healing,

    Hart

  2. a pretty bad date for them to playing all the way out in redrocks no?

right between summercamp and bonnaroo?? with no real tour out in the west....

alot of people (like myself) will simply not have the funds to do this trip....

I'm sure if you let them know you can't make it they'll be happy to reschedule. ;)

  3. Yeah, it takes a little while to get oriented on that schedule, but it's good to know how things are going to play out over the weekend. I'm incredibly looking forward to this one, albeit it is just as much because of the setting.

Edit to add: Do you think that the triangles around moe.'s set times on the schedule are indicative of any potential tomfoolery, such as them gradually making their way on stage, one member at a time? I'm just thinking out loud (or on a screen, I guess) here, and it might be wishful thinking but I can't help but wonder if that layout means something.

  4. Just one more dream Red Rocks show that I won't be going to. Someday soon, I hope. I wonder if they'll have problems filling the place. I know that moe. and Umphrey's are both great bands, but that's a long way from home turf for each of them, and 9.000 seats don't fill up easily.

its a beautiful three day drive if you do it with one driver, or a 24 hour drive if you have 3 drivers.

That seems like an awfully long 24 hours. I'm certainly not doubting you, just surprised that SoOn->CO can be done in that short amount of time.

  5. Let me add on my congratulations, tribalstar - that's great news indeed!

Although, I must confess that when I saw the subject line, I was hoping for another sulky "Nobody here likes me so I'm never posting again" thread.

    Regardless, congrats again.

  6. Say what you will about Dave Matthews Band, but he's all class when it comes to opening bands. He goes out of his way to pick quality bands that could either use some more exposure or that he really enjoys, and he also makes the class move of personally introducing the opener on stage every night.

As for whether or not this is a good move for Umphrey's, I can't believe anyone would say it isn't. Although there are a fair number of younger "pop" fans at DMB shows, there are also a large number of people who genuinely appreciate quality music, although they often get overshadowed by the drunken 21 and under ccrowd. I think people have been a little too quick to generalize in this thread.

  7. That story gave me chills, KevO, thanks for sharing it.

One of the more poignant moments for me is towards the end. Jerry is struggling to read the music books in Dawg's living room, and has to pull them right up to his face in order to see them (diabetes complications, I'm assuming). He was in rough shape by the end, but kept on going.

On a lighter note, I had completely forgotten about the video for "The Thrill is Gone," which was definitely good for a laugh (but not in a condescending way, rather an entertaining one).

Just watched this beauty for the first time in a few years. I had definitely forgotten how great it is. Seeing Jerry in such a laid back setting is a treat, and that version of "Sitting Here in Limbo" gets me every time.

  9. I'm in for sure, and can't wait. At the bars I was at last night (in Lake Placid) they were giving away snowboards to promote it, although I don't really think promoting it around Lake Placid itself will make much of a difference, since all the locals will be there regardless. We're getting a healthy dumping of snow right now - hopefully it'll still be around in 3 weeks.

  10. Hartamophone: I don't know you but I'm sure you're not a dick either.

That's the nicest thing anyone's said to me in seven-and-a-half months. God' date=' I'm lonely.[/quote']

    :P:P

oh and (((good company))) vibes in case you were serious.

I definitely wasn't serious, but thanks for the vibes none the less! ;)

  11. You'll get no argument from me that TAB would be a much better festival closer (or opener, or inbetweener) than 70 VP, but by most accounts, the show at 10 KLF last year was inspiring, uplifting and everything a closing-night's show should be. Plus, this band has evolved a lot from the premature birth it was a year ago.

Edit to add: sorry for deviating from the hijacked topic. Dima: you don't know sh!t about cough syrup. Buckley's tastes awesome.

  12. plus, trey anastasio (althouygh a big name) is a horrible headliner...keller? i think he's playing 400 other fests this year...same with umph.

I have to disagree with you there. Trey has his weak shows, but I really don't think it's fair or acccurate to call him a horrible headliner. When he's on, he's a great way to punctuate a multi-day fest (refer to Bonnaroo 2002 or 10KLF 2005 for examples).

As for Keller and Umphreys - yeah, they're staples on the summer festie circuit. So what? Doesn't make them any less worth going to see, especially if you don't live close to any other festivals that they might be playing at.

  13. Dima,

Thanks a lot for the offer. I think, though, that I'll take mattm up on his, since I don't currently have AOL or MSN (for reasons of mass distraction). Sincerely though, thanks.

    Matt,

I think you're my new hero. If you're seriously going to download it anyway (and only if you really are - I don't want to put you out), I would love to borrow it for an evening. Send me an e-mail (hartshouldice@hotmail.com) and we can figure something out. And hey, thanks a lot man - very much appreciated.

    Peace,

    Hart

  14. I did try all of those. I couldn't download the entire show at once from any of them (and I know I'm not the only Mac user who has had this problem), and so starting last night I downloaded one of the sources (the one with the highest batting average) one flac file at a time. That just finished, and now I can't convert the flac files to AIFF, even though I've tried using two different programs. It seems really odd to me that the etree source I got wouldn't convert, and now all of the Archive sources won't work for just this one show.

  15. Alright, so I'm in a bit of a pickle.

A while ago, I downloaded the entire moe. New Year's Eve run. While I was in the process of downloading, I saw a post on another board from somebody who was looking for 12/30. I wrote him back and set up a trade involving the entire run for ten discs from him. I've hit a major snag, though: 12/30 will not work for me. I've tried downloading from multiple sources, and I don't know if it's my computer or not, but 12/30 is the one show that won't work (convert from flac) on my computer, seemingly no matter what I try. I'm wondering if anyone in Ottawa has a copy of the show on CDR that I can pick up and borrow for a few hours to burn for this guy. I'll happily offer one of my shows in return for this one-evening rental (in addition to eternal gratitude and a cold beverage, the next time circumstances permit).

I really don't want to have to write this guy, who has already sent my discs in the mail, to tell him that the one show he wants, I can't get to work. Any help would be much appreciated. PM me or respond here.

    Thanks a lot.

    -Hart

  16. Can anyone who was at the Toronto show a few months back shed some light on the timing of this event? I have a prior commitment (alright, it's a class that I really can't miss) until 8:30, but if that still gives me time to see a chunk of the film and then his entire solo performance, I might make a mad dash from Carleton as soon as my class is done. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  17. Been a few days:

Canadian Women's Hockey Team - Gold.

After the way this tournament started out, I was glad to see someone beat one of the superpowers, and have the final game relatively close, score-wise (even if it was because Canada eased up). Nicely done, ladies!

Pierre Lueders and Lascelles Brown - Silver.
