  1. As desks go, she's a beaut:

    36" long x 30" deep x 28" high

    Keyboard Tray

Two large drawers on left-hand side

    Dark Brown Wood Finish

Basically it's a large computer desk, but gives you ample room to write/accumulate clutter. I have a shelf that sits on top of it that I can throw in as well. I'd like to get between $20 and $30 bucks for it, although that's negotiable. P.M. me or post here if you're interested.

    Peace,

    Hart

  2. Hey - thanks for the well wishes everybody! The past few days have seen more than sufficient celebration, and it's not quite done with yet (gotta love the birthday gauntlet).

ever since hearing saxamophone on the simpsons i find myself putting the extra syllable into most words. is there a simpsons reference in your screen name?

Yep. Hart is my first name, and I got into that habit pretty bad a few years ago, to the point where people started calling me "Hartamophone," which is what I now use for a handle whenever applicable.

Thanks again, folks - sincerely appreciated!

  3. I really think, in the context of a message board such as this one, it has everything to do with personal connections to the band. Many CanJam bands have personal connections to the site, and therefore there's a human element to any criticism. Saying "Grand Theft Bus sucks" suddenly becomes "Dennis, Bob, Graeme and Tim suck," whereas saying the same thing about Phil and Friends doesn't stir up the same response since Phil hasn't been a regular poster here since bradm made that remark about his mom.

Joking and the djED example aside, it can be frustrating to feel limited in what criticism you can offer up of a band (which I have felt both here and at jamhub) when you know that their close friends/avid followers are present and will jump down your throat because of the human element.

  4. the majority of conservative supporters are very well off (just take a drive down the mountain brow)...

Are you sure about that? True, much of the corporate elite are Conservatives, although there are a whole lot of "back roads" conservatives out there, too. In an American context, NY and California (two of the richest states) go Democratic almost every four years, and some of the poorest regions in Canada out East are Conservative strongholds.

  5. All is fair in lover and war. Whatever tactics work to damage/cast scrutiny to the republicans/conservative right is fine by me.

Ugh' date=' no, no no!! Don't you place any value on the truth? It's this type of attitude that pushed me away from the "left". Part of the big problem I have with the "right" has to do with their disingenuous rhetoric. Why should I accept that from the "left"?

    [/quote']

A men brotha. When Bill O'Reilly does it, it's sneaky and backhanded. Why, then, when Michael Moore does it, is it called for in the name of the cause? That doesn't work for me.

  6. Fair enough but what does owning up mean in Moore's context? I'm pretty sure that owning stock doesn't make someone privvy to the inside workings of the boardroom... especially in the case of massive, multi-national oil giants running in corrupt fashion.

While I'm sure he wasn't privy to the inner workings of the boardrooms, I take issue with someone blasting a company that he has made money off of, as well as bragging about how he doesn't own any stocks at all, when he has had hundreds of shares in the past.

Repenting is one thing, but that's not something that I've ever seen him do in the context of having made money from being a part-owner of Haliburton. I agree with his message, but think he's a little too quick to act like his sh!t doesn't stink.

Furthermore if the kids in bowling for columbine really were uncomfortable they wouldn't have appeared in the film. No one was forcing them.

Watch it again and tell me that they, especially the one who can no longer walk, don't look extremely uncomfortable at having all that attention put on them, especially with all the other media around when the K-Mart lady was making the announcement.

I also think that his use of sobbing mothers (F 9/11) and the bereaved school teacher in Bowling for Columbine leans towards sensationalism. I'm sure the far Right could find just as many crying relatives of 9/11 victims to support their own cause.

  7. I used to cheat on my girlfriends, does that mean that you wouldn't believe me when I say that it hurts people's feelings?

No, although I think most would agree that it would be hypocritical of you to act "holier than thou" towards people who continue to cheat without owning up to your past. I just find the "Micheal Moore can do no wrong" school of political thought a tad frustrating.

  8. I love Micael Moore, and I pretty much think he is on point 99% of time. Someone please explain why some people dislike him/find him annoying? (assuming your not consevative/republican). I don't see the negative to this guy.

I am certainly not conservative/republican, but I have a lot of issues with how Michael Moore gets his message out. The first example that comes to mind is how in Bowling for Columbine he paraded around with the two kids who had been shot as if he were their best friend, when you could visibly see how uncomfortable they (especially the one who was in the wheelchair, I forget his name) were with the situation. I think that oftentimes he openly exploits the very people he is trying to "help" (war mothers, violence victims, school teachers), in the name of sensationalism and creating a buzz around his films.

Also, he used to own stock in Haliburton, which gives him a few undesirable hypocrisy points in my book.

  9. Nice pics, Basher. It's nice to hear some positive reaction after the mixed reviews that Toronto got. I'm really looking forward to the Albany show in a couple of weeks (which is also in a threatre and is going to feature a full bluegrass set from "Keller and the Keels").

edit to add: I'm really wondering what a heady glow ring buzz is like. I'm guessing not too pleasing.

  10. Alright, so I'm not sure if I'm legally allowed to be asking QsOTD, but this is one I've been pondering lately:

Songs you would put an asterisk beside.

Personal preferences being what they are, we all have a song or two by the bands we love that make us cringe, or that we fast-forward and say "No, wait, that's not really what they sound like," when we're playing the band for other people. So here it is: what song/songs by your favourite performer/performers would you put an asterisk beside?

    For me:

Jimmy Swift Band - Sun on the Horizon (a noticable sore on epidermis of the "Onward Through the Fog" album)

Grateful Dead - Space (I have a really hard time trying to explain this to people)

    What else?

  11. It doesn't surprise me that these bands are all relatively small (compared with traditional moe.down secondary acts), as I've been really confused as to where they would put, say, a YMSB-sized act in a town with virtually no appropriate venues with capacity between 200 and 2000. Either way though, I'm still uber-pumped about this bad boy.
