  1. 1. Phil Lesh and Friends (w/ Scofield) - Albany 12/5

    2. Michael Franti & Spearhead with The String Cheese Incident (on-stage together, unannounced late-night show) - Ottawa (Babylon) - 7/13

    3. Jurassic 5 - Burlington, VT - 10/21

Edit to add: Honourable Mention to the Stones at Frank Clair Stadium.

  2. Down with Disease -Phish

Doesn't that match the time frame, and didn't parts of it take place underwater?

True, and it started in a house and then moved to underwater, although I'm guessing since it was only ever played on TV once (and during Beavis and Butthead at that), it's probably not what they're thinking of.

  3. "In addition, he was asked multiple times while in prison to aid law enforcement by providing insight into gang behaviour/communication, and never would." - Hartamaphone

Can you link me to the place where you found this info so that I can send it to nobel and they can revoke his nomination. Clearly they fuck up all the time in these kinds of situations. I mean Christ!!!!! They gave the thing to Oppenheimer and he created the A-bomb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Idiots, eh?

The word redemption seems to be very misunderstood.

Turning in your old homies is different from telling police they ways in which gangs operate.

I think David Milgaard should be put to death for his crimes, too. I mean he never admitted his guilt either. There is no such thing a a mistake in jurisprudence... EVER.

I'll look for the article I found that in, although I read it a few days ago. As for his Nobel Peace Prize nominations, there's a huge difference between getting nominated and actually receiving one (although I'm not sure where you were going with that one).

As for the Milgaard analogy, DNA evidence conclusively proved his innocence, and I'd like to point out that I stated that I am against the death penalty. My point was that Tookie has not taken all the opportunities offered him to show remorse or help the cause of ending gang violence.

  4. the save tookie campaign astonished me. the man couldn't even admit guilt!

That's what gets me. He never, ever took responsability for his actions. In addition, he was asked multiple times while in prison to aid law enforcement by providing insight into gang behaviour/communication, and never would. I do not support the death penalty, but this man did not deserve to walk free and was not the angel of peace that people have been making him out to be.

  5. Anyone know when they usually begin nanouncing the line-up? Me and some friends will be going for the first time in celebration of graduating from University. I can not wait to see the linup and experience the festival.

    cheers,

    Jake

That's the exact reason that I went the first time - we made it our grad trip and had a killer time.

As for a lineup announcement, IIRC (blatant bradm ripoff) they're normally announced sometime in late Februray/Early March, although someone might be able to correct or confirm that.

so the "its fun to hate bonnaroo" posts start early eh?

It's funny, I find that often times (not always, but frequently) the people trashing Bonnaroo haven't even been there (and I'm not referring to you, Chewie). It's really easy to focus on the hearsay negative aspects of a festie you've never been to, but it can be really hard to convey what an all-encompassing, kick-ass weekend it is to people who haven't checked 'er out but love to trash it.

  6. thanks hart..

its a cell phone in the UK.. Vodafone or t-mobile UK..

    they have 8 digit cell#'s

the calls dont have much info..

just seems like some ones trying to reach you..

there are no odd charges in you usage summary..

sorry im not much of an inspector

Thanks for checkin' it out. As long as it's not really fishy, I guess it doesn't matter. Like I said, I answered the first few times, but since then I haven't bothered, as I wasn't getting any response from the other end.

Would you sit there, shoot up cocaine, and play violin, too?

What do you reckon, bradm? You think Moriarity is the one trying to call me?

  7. Morning.

I'm wondering if this is happening to anyone else. About once a day on my cell phone (Bell is my carrier), I get an incoming call from the number 441-793-360280 (which I realize is not an actual telephone number). The first couple of times I answered it, but there was just dead air on the other end. I'm not ending up with any strange charges on my bill or anything, so really it's just a bit of an annoyance. Has anyone else had this (or something similar) happen to them, or does anyone have any ideas as to what this might be? More than anything, it's just a matter of curiosity on my part.

    Thanks.

  8. That's funny, Freeker, I was thinking of you when I started the thread. It wasn't listed as sold out this afternoon, but I guess that changed. Personally, if I could, I'd still make the trip down on the chance that there will either be more released at the door or someone will have an extra. Worst case scenario you're back in Ottawa by ten. SLU is a pretty small school, so you know it'll be a pretty intimate show.

On the plus side, his show in Albany on 2/4 (at the HART Theatre at the Egg, no less), is going to feature a full acoustic Keller and the Keels set.

  9. Word up. So after seeing the Lee's Palace show, I cruised over to Keller's website and saw this:

    FRIDAY 12/9

ST LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY - GULICK THEATRE

    Canton, NY

    PRICE: $8.00 students / $20.00 public

    TIMES: doors 8:00pm / show 9:00pm

    AGES: all ages

This is just a little over an hour from Ottawa. I (sadly) don't think I can make it, but just wanted to give a heads up.

    Peace,

    Hart

  10. Dont take this the wrong way, but did you hang outside and wait until the last minute to get in like the rest of the stragglers or did you have an issue with parking and got there late? If it is the latter, I feel your pain.

A little from column A, a little from column B. We had plans to meet up with some friends for a pint before the show, but it took us a ridiculous amount of time to find a parking spot. When we did, we still had to go find our friends, after which we went right to the venue and had a tough time trying to work our way through the masses to head in.

I would never expect to be able to waltz right in to any event with several thousand people, right around the start time, but their ratio of available doors to doors that were actually open seemed a little out of whack.

Whatever, not something I want to focus on at all in light of what a great show it was.

    Just Another Whistle Stop> Jam>

    Loose Lucy

Smoking sh!t. Wish you were there man. Hell, the final couple of songs in that set were unreal. I, personally, thought the first set was fantastic.

Yeah, I wish I was there for that, too! I often find it hard to get into a groove when I walk in in the middle of a set, and I think that's what my problem was last night, although the second set more than made up for my botched first set.

  11. Those tapes are going to sound horrendous. I almost guarantee it. They were stuck WAAAAAAAAAAAY at the back and I am assuming they will sound very cavernous. I have never seen a worse spot for the tapers, but at the same time, there was no where else to put them.

I completely agree with this. I was really confused when I walked in, at the farthest point from the stage, and noticed that that was where the mics were set up. From what I understand, there are hardly ever shows at this venue (which would be evidenced by the brutal entry and beer line procedures), so I suppose they simply didn't know where to put the tapers.

As for the show itself: I could take or leave the first set (although we arrived late, during Friend of the Devil), which seemed flat and pretty uninspired to me. The second set, however, is a whole different story.

From Eyes right to the end, the energy level was through the roof. Scofield, who was reading off of charts most of the show, really cut loose in the second half of the set, and was an absolute monster by the end of Watchtower. Honestly, during that one in particular he looked and sounded like 10x the "rock star" anyone else on the stage did, and was ripping up sixteenth notes faster than should be allowed by law. Oh yeah, and seeing him clap along with the crowd during "Not Fade Away" was pretty amusing.

I don't have a whole lot else to add right now. Some of the best energy I've ever seen/heard from a Philesque, post-Jerry show, (and Phil actually mentioned this, saying it was "Just like being back in New York). Definitely looking forward to finding a decent source for this one.

    Peace,

    Hart
