  1. If we're talking hostels then the Ottawa Jail Hostel is the best and I'm not just saying that because it was my first home in Ottawa. Right downtown, clean and super friendly with a working gallows taboot. Rooms are cheap, 4 to a cell or private rooms available.

    check it out

Also the sight of the last public hanging in Canada. (I'm not sure if that was meant to be a selling point, or a deterrent).

  2. This is great! Things were looking pretty grim when he got so sick and had to cancel all of those dates in '02. I'm definitely not going to miss him this time around.

Here's the link from the official Lightfoot site, and the story from CBC.

    See y'all there.

  3. There's an Econo Lodge just East down Rideau Street from the market. It's about a ten-fifteen minute walk from the market, and will probably be much cheaper than something right there. I've had some good friends stay there (as I used to live right across the street) and they had positive things to say.

  4. Agreed! I was very impressed at the acting/musicianship/accuracy throughout. I really enjoyed the parts that involved the other early Sun greats as well as Johnny and June.

The movie clocks in at just over two hours, and if those two actors do their own music, then they deserve a massive big-up for their effort.

They absolutely did, and had to work really hard at it. Reese Witherspoon found it so tough that at one point she tried desperately (through her lawyer, agent and others) to get out of the film. They do all the singing on the soundtrack as well, which is pretty impressive.

  5. so these folks want the show immediatly, in MP3 format, rather than waiting the day or two for the shn/flac version?

    weak sauce.

Pretty much, although even after they're available in lossless, many people still want it through YSI, as that's way less "work" for the downloader.

  6. So I swear I just saw someone on PT offering up his "YSI list" for trade (Link).

I think this is getting a little ridiculous. BitTorrent is one thing, but at least you have to look around a little bit, and are still getting a decent pull of the show. It's a little much, though, when within hours of a show you get all sorts of people asking for the YSI, and if it's not offered up by someone right away they get all pissed off. Getting tapes of shows has never been about instant gratification, and this culture of entitlement that is starting to surround electronic dissemination of shows is really getting annoying.

I know most of this has been said before, although my gripe isn't with the technology, but the attitudes that accompany it. And I haven't even been around long enough to be a jaded vet!

    End rant.

  7. I heared an excellent interview of Terry McBride (CEO of Nettwerk Records) by Jian Ghomeshi yesterday on CBC. In a segment about the state of the industry, McBride claimed that 60% of the Internet's bandwidth is currently taken up by BitTorrent. Do you think this can be true? That's an awful lot of people downloading Dead shows and Simpsons episodes. If it is true, I'm sorry to say that I agree with those who are foreseeing a two-tiered Internet system.

    Any thoughts?

  8. Damn, what a day!

Jeff Buttle - Bronze. Nice one, although too bad for Emmanuel Sandu - he waited a long time for this.

(Incidentally, it's pretty tough to find a shot of a male figure skater that doesn't leave itself wide open for ridicule, as evidenced above).

  9. I thought the commercial was pretty straight forward:

The grandfather never "approved" of his son playing hockey, and was always telling him to study more, and pay less attention to hockey. It wasn't until his son's son (his grandson) was playing hockey that the grandfather told his son he actually came to the rink to see him play, and knew what position he played. etc. Make sense?

dima, good luck with that. I'm sure you'll bring them down. ;)

  10. Got mine too. I recently recieved a personal e-mail from a ticket agent that needs to contact me personally to ensure I get my tickets. Apparently this is now standard. Did anyone else, get this treatment?

Did he also want your help in reloacting his massive African diamond fortune to offshore accounts?

  11. Two weeks before the fest, this and every other board on the net will be offering deals or at least tons of tix for face. Don't worry about it selling out, it can't can it? Don't they have room for 100 thousand + ppl and ususally at most sell 85 - 90 thou or so. I could be wrong.

You're right about the deals on MBs, although there is a limited number of tickets and fest can, and does, sell out (tickets, that is) every year. Granted that limited number is pretty high, but the first couple of years it sold out almost two months prior, and this year they're reducing the capacity by about ten thousand (down to around 70 000, which it had been in years prior to '05).
