  1. Don't hate Fox, hate the average American that doesn't "get" it.

Probably a safe assumption that the average Canadian doesn't "get" it either.

I have no doubt that the show will eventually be resurrected. IT's just TOOO brilliant. The masses will catch up on DVD . Kinda like the family guy, they can't seem to track television viewers quantitatively, or accurately, but they can track DVD sales. Everyone go out and buy SEASON 1 and 2 !!!

I'm really hoping for this too, although we need to remember that it's a hell of a lot easier to reunite a small number of people to do voice-overs than it is an entire live-action cast, nevermind the logistics of sound stages/sets/etc.

  2. The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down of the big lake they call 'Gitche Gumee.'

The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead when the skies of November turn gloomy.

With a load of iron ore twenty-six thousand tons more

than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty,

that good ship and true was a bone to be chewed when the gales of November came early.

The ship was the pride of the American side, coming back from some mill in Wisconsin.

As the big freighters go, it was bigger than most with a crew and good captain well seasoned.

Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms when they left fully loaded for Cleveland,

and later that night when the ship's bell rang, could it be the north wind they'd been feeling?

The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound and a wave broke over the railing.

And every man knew, as the captain did too, t'was the witch of November come stealing.

The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait when the Gales of November came slashing.

When afternoon came it was freezing rain in the face of a hurricane west wind.

When suppertime came, the old cook came on deck saying, ‘Fellas, it's too rough to feed ya.’

At Seven P.M. a main hatchway caved in, he said, ‘Fellas, it's been good t'know ya.’

The captain wired in he had water coming in and the good ship and crew was in peril.

And later that night when his lights went out of sight came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Does any one know where the love of God goes when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

The searches all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay if they'd put fifteen more miles behind her.

They might have split up or they might have capsized, the may have broke deep and took water.

And all that remains is the faces and the names of the wives and the sons and the daughters.

Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings in the rooms of her ice-water mansion.

Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams, the islands and bays are for sportsmen.

And farther below Lake Ontario takes in what Lake Erie can send her,

and the iron boats go as the mariners all know with the Gales of November remembered.

In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed in the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral.

The church bell chimed till it rang twenty-nine times for each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald.

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down of the big lake they call 'Gitche Gumee'.

Superior, they said, never gives up her dead when the gales of November come early.

  3. qu'est-ce que la fuck?

    Was this an announced gig?

It was billed as a regular 70 VP show, the guests were just a *huge* bonus. I can't even imagine the First Tube with four keyboards.

Also, when it was just Trey and Page on stage, Trey joked that the two of them should call themselves "Halfway There". Pretty funny, actually.

    Awesome pic, Freeker.

  5. I was luke-warm on it last night until the 46 Days, which I thought was rippin'. It's new stuff (well, not 46 Days, but the band and material in general), and it might be stuff that wouldn't have a home in "the scene" were it not for Trey's history, but I saw some real promise in that material last night. Above all I think he should get some props for walking away from a consistently adored, well-paying gig and taking his music in a different direction.

  6. Liking The Slip in the jamband scene is like having street-cred. It's cool to like The Slip.

I could not agree more. Granted, this obviously does not apply to all (or even the majority, I'm sure) Slip fans, but this has been a bit of a Slip-related turn-off for me. I lived out East for the better part of five years, and there are many East Coasters who, after havig seen them at a couple of Evolves, talk about The Slip like they're the only band in the universe, and that any festival not involving them is "a waste of my fifty bucks." Liking The Slip definitely a case of being a "scenster" for a lot of people, and it has repelled me to a certain extent (despite the fact that I've seen and thoroughly enjoyed them a couple of times, and plan on seeing them again).

  7. I worked a job this summer at a gear shop in Lake Placid where all the music was piped in by a company (Muzak) hired by the retailer.

The first few days I was diggin' it big time: Phish, TAB, WSP, Toots, Jimmy Cliff, SCI, DM+F, etc. The thing is, there were only so many songs in the rotation, so by week two I was ready to poke my musical eyes out every four minutes, even when the given songs by the above artists came on.

  8. That's indeed great news (although not the best kind of great news, if that makes sense). I had assumed that after so much time had passed, the case would remain unsolved, and am glad I was proved wrong.

  9. Widespread Panic - 10

    Jack Johnson - 9

    Beck - 11

    Phil & Friends - 10

    Trey Anastasio - 10

    The Arcade Fire - 9

    The Flaming Lips - 10

The String Cheese Incident - 9

    Primus - 10

    Ween - 11

    Gov't Mule - 10

    The Shins - 10

    moe. - 12

    Michael Franti & Spearhead - 8

    The Decemberists - 10

    Umphrey's McGee - 11

    Spoon - 10

  10. A guy walks into a bar and orders up five shots of JD. The bartender pours them out, and the guy instantly pounds them back, one after another.

"Jeez, that's a pretty serious thist you've got there," the bartender remarks.

"Hey buddy, you'd be drinking like this, too if you had what I have," the guy replies.

"Oh, I see, well, if you don't mind my asking, what is it that you have?"

    "About seventy-five cents."
