I live in Guelph. It was well reported throughout the campaign that the Conservative candidate and workers were behaving problematically and flat out lying about things and everyone in town knew it. Indeed, the same Michael Sona attempted to snatch a ballot box at a polling station at the University of Guelph, he denied it, but photographs proved he had lied. He wasnt charged in that instance because there was some ambiguity in how notices were posted around campus and Elections Canada chose to clarify the issue for all special, temporary polling stations, rather than charging him with obstruction. Similarly, his candidate's well marked campaign van was parked directly in front of an advance polling station in violation of Elections Canada rules, but EC again chose to clarify rather than charge. The candidate himself was also caught in lies about his non-attendance at debates as well as his own personal military record. That anyone now would take Sona's word about anything now, or that of anyone associated with that campaign, simply ignores the well documented tendency for them to lie and cheat throughout the campaign. Sona is likely just the first one to be charged and many here in Guelph expect him to start singing like a canary.
