Should 11-year-old forfeit $50K he won for miracle hockey shot?
An 11-year-old who won $50,000 for a stunning hockey shot may have to forfeit the prize because he was standing in for his twin brother when the would-be contestant's name was called, the Faribault Daily News reports.
It was all part of a raffle at a charity hockey game in Faribault, Minn.
Fans paid $10 for a raffle ticket giving them a chance to send a puck 89 feet down the ice into a 3-and-a-half-inch goal. When Nick Smith's ticket was drawn, he was outside, so his twin brother, Nate, stepped in to take the shot.
When the puck sailed through the tiny goal, the place erupted "louder than a Stanley Cup game," one fan tells KARE-TV.
Nate and Nick's dad, Pat Smith, came forward Friday to tell event organizers that the other brother made the shot, not the one whose name was on the ticket.
"That's the right thing to do," he told KARE.
"Legally, it has to be the person whose name is on the ticket," April Clark, general manager for Odds On Promotions, the tournament insurance carrier, told the Toronto Star. "We really are very careful about explaining that it has to be the person."
An Odds On Promotion human resources representative will research why Nate took the shot for Nick and make the decision, she says.
The Smiths are hopeful -- and have earmarked the money for the twins' college fund.

Crazy shit going on lately it seems. I read reports from someone who knew someone working there and there may be 5 dead, and something like 24 or so people taken to hospital.

so helpful.
Lorazepam wouldn't be put into a drink I don't think. Wouldn't one just take it? Why would someone put lorazepam in a drink?
Except no one said it was put in the drink, only that if you drink while taking it, you could have the side effects like those you described. With the amount of information given in the OP, it was open to suggestion if you ask me. It could also be suggested that if his BAC rose too quick (this can happen with less then 4 drinks/beers), you can have temporary short term memory loss/block. Although still be functional, social and seemingly coherent to everyone around you even though you are not forming any memories from a certain point on throughout the night.
Honestly though, I don't see how anyone could give any helpful information here. I mean, I've purposely taken GHB and not experienced anything like you described.

It's OK, Hulk Hogan is on the case.
Here's what the Iron Sheik thinks about that.

In 1991 I was 21 on GD tour, working shakedown proper while swilling Jack Daniels, tipping coolers and selling bunk paper to those custy Phish noobs who were ruining the scene.

Clearing out a ton of shows and I was wondering if anyone was interested in this? Great show from a great player? Drop me a PM or reply here. Already burned to DVD and ready to ship. I'll post more if there is any interest. Sorry it's not mp3's, I know most prefer those for some reason.

Thankfully, my car (dubbed the rolling coffin) is no longer road worthy and has been scrapped.

If you ever make your way to Hamilton, be sure to visit O'Neil's on Barton Street East here. They'll serve you up a few different monster burgers, the biggest being "The Pugger" - 1lb of hand pressed ground beef. Usually I get the "World" burger (3/4 lb).
Here's a corny marketing video with not so great music, but it gives ya an idea.

I was expecting to see bands like Rage Against The Machine on the bill, but it's actually a country (err "pop country") music festival.
:surprise:

I hear no one at Rhino will be allowed consume anything but organic tofu and soy beverages during the production of this collection.

The last poll they took, that I recall anyway (circa 1990 or so) showed most were against it. Times change of course, as this poll of less then 1000 people shows (although it's really a small sample size to go by in my opinion). I'd like to see a province wide survey though, out of curiosity.
There are variety/corner stores already selling beer and liquor in Ontario though, of course those are mainly smaller rural towns, usually 15 minutes to an hour (or more) from a bigger city, so I'll assume that after 10-15 years of those operating there is probably a different outlook towards it from the general public.

Actually they were originally called 'Westport chairs' named after Wesport, New York where it was patented. It was only later called the Adirondack chair in honor of the mountains, where there was a convalescent home/retreat where T.B patients went to recover, after that they were called Adirondack chairs due to the popularity and comfort. There is some slight differences between the two though, the American version has a flat yolk, where the Canadian has a curved, the span between the arms is smaller in the Canadian version, as well they are lower to the ground. The things you learn having cabinet and furniture maker friends.
I actually grew up with hearing them called "West Ports", but anytime I've called them that no one ever knew what I was talking about or figured I was referring to cigarettes. So Muskoka/Adirondack it is. Regardless, Muskoka, Laurentian or Adirondack chair, it's all pretty much the same anyway, only localized. Since my spinal surgeries though, I find them very uncomfortable and avoid them like the plague.

Just saw this on TV. Terrible news. Politics aside, as a cancer survivor, I can say, no matter how minor things may seem, or even be, this is a terrible strain on ones mental, physical and emotional health. I wish him a speedy and successful recovery. Get well Jack and keep up that positive attitude, it goes a long way in the process.
NDP Leader Jack Layton stunned Canada's political world on Monday, announcing he is taking a temporary leave of absence to receive treatment after doctors discovered he has a new cancer. The surprise announcement comes just over two months after Layton led his party to record gains in the federal election and become the Official Opposition in the House of Commons.
Layton, speaking at times with a strained voice alongside his wife, NDP MP Olivia Chow, vowed to return to his position when Parliament resumes on Sept. 19.
"I will beat this new cancer and I will be back in the House of Commons to defend the values and priorities of Canadian families," he told reporters at a news conference in Toronto.
Layton said the party executive would begin consulting with the NDP caucus to choose an interim leader until he returns to his duties. Layton recommended Nycole Turmel, the NDP MP for the Quebec riding of Hull-Aylmer, for the post.
Layton, 61, who represents the Toronto-Danforth riding and led the New Democrats since 2003, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in late 2009 and went public with it in February 2010.
He said Monday the new cancer was found last week after he suffered some stiffness and pain in the closing days of the most recent session of the House of Commons.
"My battle against prostate cancer is going very well. My PSA levels remain virtually undetectable," he said.
"However, these tests … also indicate that I have a new, non-prostate cancer that will require further treatment. So, on the advice of my doctors, I am going to focus on treatment and recovery."
Layton did not take questions from reporters, instead leaving NDP president Brian Topp to field queries over what this meant for the party as it prepared for its first full session in the House of Commons as the Official Opposition.
Topp said the party would select an interim leader as soon as possible.
Layton also underwent hip surgery ahead of the last federal election campaign, which saw the New Democrats become the Official Opposition for the first time in the party's history.
