  1. Some funny ones here and some down right uncalled for ones (re: Eric Clapton)

    30. Wayne Coyne on Arcade Fire

“I get really tired of their pompousness [sic]… We’ve played some shows with them and they really treat people like shit. People treat Arcade Fire like they’re the greatest thing ever and they get away with it… They have good tunes, but they’re pricks, so fuck ‘em.â€

    29. Christina Aguilera on Lady Gaga

“I’m not quite sure who this person is, to be honest. I don’t know if it is a man or a woman.â€

    28. David Lee Roth on Elvis Costello

“Music journalists like Elvis Costello because music journalists look like Elvis Costello.â€

    27. Lily Allen on Cheryl Cole

“Taking your clothes off, doing sexy dancing and marrying a rich footballer must be very gratifying. Your mother must be so proud. Stupid bitch.â€

    26. Trent Reznor on Marilyn Manson

“A malicious guy [who] will step on anybody’s face to succeed, and cross any line of decency.â€

    25. Mark E Smith on Mumford & Sons

“There was this other group warming up … and they were terrible. I said, ‘Shut them cunts up!’ And they were still warming up, so I threw a bottle at them … I just thought they were a load of retarded Irish folk singers.â€

    24. Courtney Love on Dave Grohl

“As for that drummer, well, he’s hit on me so many times. He’s just a very very conflicted guy about me, which is why he continually writes songs about me to hear he ‘hates’ me more than ‘anyone else.’ Kurt loathed HIM more than anyone else (except a journalist) … He’s just sub-mediocre kind of [guy] who does this ‘nice guy’ nonsense.â€

    23. Dave Grohl on Courtney Love

    “She’s an ugly fucking bitch.â€

    22. Kathleen Hanna on Courtney Love

“Where’s the baby? In the closet with an IV?â€

    21. Paul Weller on Freddie Mercury

“He said he wanted to bring ballet to the working classes. What a cunt.â€

    20. Richey Edwards on The Levellers

“You could go to any Levellers concert and stand in the middle and shout, ‘Jeremy!’, and 75% of the audience would turn round.â€

    19. Kurt Cobain on Guns N’ Roses

“They’re really talentless people, and they write crap music, and they’re the most popular rock band on the earth right now. I can’t believe it.â€

    18. Nick Cave on Red Hot Chili Peppers

“I’m forever near a stereo saying, ‘What the fuck is this garbage?’ And the answer is always the Red Hot Chili Peppers.â€

    16. Alan McGee on Coldplay

“Coldplay are the dictionary definition of corporate rock. The singer is about as weird as Phil Collins. They are career rock personified. EMI should’ve signed Otis The Aadvark instead. At least he only sucks his thumb rather than corporate cock.â€

    15. Elvis Costello on Morrissey

“Morrissey writes wonderful song titles, but sadly he often forgets to write the song.â€

    14. Noel Gallagher on Jack White

“He looks like Zorro on doughnuts.â€

    13. Rick James on Prince

“A little short ego-ed fucker who I had a feeling didn’t like people of his own race and wanted to be white and taller.â€

    12. Mark “E†Everett on The Beatles

“John Lennon sings about peace because he’s a woman-beater. Hippies are so full of shit.â€

    11. Richey Edwards on Slowdive

“We hate Slowdive more than we hate Hitler.â€

    10. Ian Brown on Bono

“He’s such a fake, isn’t he? When he did Live Aid, which made them a worldwide group … he looked out and [saw] that black girl in the middle of all them people, and she’s from Hackney or something, and he was like, ‘Here’s a great shot for me around the world to show I’m Mr Africa.’ It’s like colonialist times with a big white hat.â€

“If Morrissey says not to eat meat, then I’ll eat meat — that’s how much I hate Morrissey.â€

    8. Morrissey on Bob Geldof

    6. Boy George on Madonna

  2. Should 11-year-old forfeit $50K he won for miracle hockey shot?

An 11-year-old who won $50,000 for a stunning hockey shot may have to forfeit the prize because he was standing in for his twin brother when the would-be contestant's name was called, the Faribault Daily News reports.

It was all part of a raffle at a charity hockey game in Faribault, Minn.

Fans paid $10 for a raffle ticket giving them a chance to send a puck 89 feet down the ice into a 3-and-a-half-inch goal. When Nick Smith's ticket was drawn, he was outside, so his twin brother, Nate, stepped in to take the shot.

When the puck sailed through the tiny goal, the place erupted "louder than a Stanley Cup game," one fan tells KARE-TV.

Nate and Nick's dad, Pat Smith, came forward Friday to tell event organizers that the other brother made the shot, not the one whose name was on the ticket.

"That's the right thing to do," he told KARE.

"Legally, it has to be the person whose name is on the ticket," April Clark, general manager for Odds On Promotions, the tournament insurance carrier, told the Toronto Star. "We really are very careful about explaining that it has to be the person."

An Odds On Promotion human resources representative will research why Nate took the shot for Nick and make the decision, she says.

The Smiths are hopeful -- and have earmarked the money for the twins' college fund.

  3. so helpful.

Lorazepam wouldn't be put into a drink I don't think. Wouldn't one just take it? Why would someone put lorazepam in a drink?

Except no one said it was put in the drink, only that if you drink while taking it, you could have the side effects like those you described. With the amount of information given in the OP, it was open to suggestion if you ask me. It could also be suggested that if his BAC rose too quick (this can happen with less then 4 drinks/beers), you can have temporary short term memory loss/block. Although still be functional, social and seemingly coherent to everyone around you even though you are not forming any memories from a certain point on throughout the night.

Honestly though, I don't see how anyone could give any helpful information here. I mean, I've purposely taken GHB and not experienced anything like you described.

  7. If you ever make your way to Hamilton, be sure to visit O'Neil's on Barton Street East here. They'll serve you up a few different monster burgers, the biggest being "The Pugger" - 1lb of hand pressed ground beef. Usually I get the "World" burger (3/4 lb).

Here's a corny marketing video with not so great music, but it gives ya an idea.

  8. The last poll they took, that I recall anyway (circa 1990 or so) showed most were against it. Times change of course, as this poll of less then 1000 people shows (although it's really a small sample size to go by in my opinion). I'd like to see a province wide survey though, out of curiosity.

There are variety/corner stores already selling beer and liquor in Ontario though, of course those are mainly smaller rural towns, usually 15 minutes to an hour (or more) from a bigger city, so I'll assume that after 10-15 years of those operating there is probably a different outlook towards it from the general public.

  9. Actually they were originally called 'Westport chairs' named after Wesport, New York where it was patented. It was only later called the Adirondack chair in honor of the mountains, where there was a convalescent home/retreat where T.B patients went to recover, after that they were called Adirondack chairs due to the popularity and comfort. There is some slight differences between the two though, the American version has a flat yolk, where the Canadian has a curved, the span between the arms is smaller in the Canadian version, as well they are lower to the ground. The things you learn having cabinet and furniture maker friends.

I actually grew up with hearing them called "West Ports", but anytime I've called them that no one ever knew what I was talking about or figured I was referring to cigarettes. So Muskoka/Adirondack it is. Regardless, Muskoka, Laurentian or Adirondack chair, it's all pretty much the same anyway, only localized. Since my spinal surgeries though, I find them very uncomfortable and avoid them like the plague.

  11. Just saw this on TV. Terrible news. Politics aside, as a cancer survivor, I can say, no matter how minor things may seem, or even be, this is a terrible strain on ones mental, physical and emotional health. I wish him a speedy and successful recovery. Get well Jack and keep up that positive attitude, it goes a long way in the process.

NDP Leader Jack Layton stunned Canada's political world on Monday, announcing he is taking a temporary leave of absence to receive treatment after doctors discovered he has a new cancer.

The surprise announcement comes just over two months after Layton led his party to record gains in the federal election and become the Official Opposition in the House of Commons.

Layton, speaking at times with a strained voice alongside his wife, NDP MP Olivia Chow, vowed to return to his position when Parliament resumes on Sept. 19.

"I will beat this new cancer and I will be back in the House of Commons to defend the values and priorities of Canadian families," he told reporters at a news conference in Toronto.

Layton said the party executive would begin consulting with the NDP caucus to choose an interim leader until he returns to his duties. Layton recommended Nycole Turmel, the NDP MP for the Quebec riding of Hull-Aylmer, for the post.

Layton, 61, who represents the Toronto-Danforth riding and led the New Democrats since 2003, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in late 2009 and went public with it in February 2010.

He said Monday the new cancer was found last week after he suffered some stiffness and pain in the closing days of the most recent session of the House of Commons.

"My battle against prostate cancer is going very well. My PSA levels remain virtually undetectable," he said.

"However, these tests … also indicate that I have a new, non-prostate cancer that will require further treatment. So, on the advice of my doctors, I am going to focus on treatment and recovery."

Layton did not take questions from reporters, instead leaving NDP president Brian Topp to field queries over what this meant for the party as it prepared for its first full session in the House of Commons as the Official Opposition.

Topp said the party would select an interim leader as soon as possible.

Layton also underwent hip surgery ahead of the last federal election campaign, which saw the New Democrats become the Official Opposition for the first time in the party's history.
