What's this new hip hop thing everyone's talking about?

John Neff is going to be replacing Jason. Neff has played with the band since the beginning and plays a mean pedal steel. Unfortunately he doesn't really sing a great deal and especially doesn't sing any Jason Isbell songs.

The crying has finally ceased but the pain in my heart is still there. Thursday is going to be a very difficult time to hear some of Jason's songs. For those of you that haven't heard his solo stuff, check it out here: http://www.myspace.com/jasonisbellmusic Undoubtedly his solo album will smoke and all that jazz. It's just so sad to know the next time I see the Truckers I won't hear "Danko/Manuel" or "Outfit".

Today I logged on to the Drive-By Truckers website to the news that Jason Isbell is no longer with the band. Bulletins and blogs on Jason's myspace site indicate he was kicked out. Jason came into the band in 2001 and contributed material that changed the Truckers in pro founding way. Songs like "Decoration Day", "Outfit", "Goddamn Lonely Love" were major staples at their shows. I hope I get the chance to talk to Jason on Thursday when he's in Toronto opening for Son Volt. A very dark day for NewRider.
