  2. ya not doing any shows this NYE - too risky! have a great NYE everyone!
  3. After seeing Walk Hard this weekend - there really isn't any compairison to these two movies - walk hard very much is a parody of Walk the line with some extra references to other famous rock n roll moments ( i.e. Beatles in India) I though that Walk Hard was a funny movie - I still prefer Guy Terrifico.
  4. ... many people have ben asking me what I'm upto for NYE - i just got my tickets for this event last night - I think this is one of the most interesting parties of NYE - there's going to be 3 rooms - lots of perfomers - and a very nice community of people - ( think Harvest, Om & Shambhala Festivals) These guys always do things up right - massive sound - aweome art installations. I'm gonna check out Cautin Jam beforehand - this party is going until 6am!! Eccodek is at 1 AM - followed by Adham Shaikh at 2 AM Here's the links to the music: http://www.myspace.com/adhamshaikh - check out song "belly dancer" http://www.myspace.com/eccodek - Guelph's Global Dub Fusion 7 piece band http://www.myspace.com/medicinemanradio - Toronto's top World Beat/ Electronica DJ fro CIUT U of T Radio Station http://www.myspace.com/cashrollin - One of my best buddies in Toronto - great DJ Selecta ! This is going to be one of the top parties in Toronto - expect world music influenced Electronica - live and Dj performances - visuals all at a alternative venue - the crowd is usually very friendly - and ready to dance until well into the next day - one side of this party is a very techno-influenced : basically there are two rooms - the 'lounge' is where the global grooves vibes will be. Adham Shaikh is someone I caught at Shambhala Festival this summer - he mixes live tabla & sitar with electronica beats and deep & dubby basslines - Eccodek is a full live ensemble - percussion, keys, sax with a pulsating electro worldy house grooves - I've presented him a couple of times - always a great performance. My two buddies Medicine Mand and Rollin Cash round out the bill in the 'lounge'. CAULFIELD Currently based in Berlin, Jeremy is a true Toronto techno legend, having held some of the city's top residencies at Fukhouse, Industry, Blue, and Mission. Since relocating to Europe, Jeremy has quietly infiltrated the top global ranks of the minimal techno scene with his unique and edgy sound. His critically-acclaimed releases have earned him high-profile sets at clubs and festivals around the world, while his Dumb-Unit label has established itself as a force to be reckoned with. ADHAM SHAIKH With beginnings rooted in our favorite downtempo / world fusion label Interchill Records, this West Coast world fusion composer, sound designer, and DJ has created music from his own Sonicturtle mobile recording studio for many years now. His skills have taken him around the globe from the Samothraki Dance Festival in Greece to Japanese events for Dakini Records, Waveform Festival Uk, the Incredible Boom Festival In Portugal and gained him a Juno nomination in 2006. Adham has been one of our favourites for many, many years and back in April he played live for us with his band Dream Tree Project. It was an amazing performance encompassing sitar, tables and electronics at DragonFly in Parkdale. For this visit expect dance floor tempo beats to really move you as Adham takes to the decks. PAN/TONE - live Under his Pan/Tone alias, Sheldon Thompson embarked on a life of music with an aim to rock dance floors and motivated to leave no chin stroking. Currently based in Germany, his prolific studio work has seen him release dozens of records over the past few years on respected imprints including Sub-Static, Onitor, Mule Electronic, 240 Volts, Trapez, and his own Cereal/Killers label. Sheldon's incendiary live sets are second to none, and have taken him to festivals and clubs around the world from Paris to Istanbul, Rome to Tokyo, Portugal, Belgium and beyond. ADAM MARSHALL Running his New Kanada imprint, releasing on Cynosure and DJing all over North America, Adam has been a fixture in Toronto's underground techno and house scene for years. Building his reputation as a solid performer both live and behind the decks, this will be one of your very last opportunities to hear Adam play as he's departing our fair city to ply his trade in Berlin. As one of Toronto's hardest working DJs, he will be missed - so don't miss this chance to celebrate the New Year with one of his distinctive sets and say farewell to the great Adam Marshall. ECCODEK - live Eccodek is a multi-cultural, multi-genre concept created by 2007 Canadian Music Award winner Andrew McPherson. Andrew’s production skills (Philosopher Kings, Jane Siberry, National Geographic.com, Vieux Farka Touré) provide the foundation for Eccodek’s heady brew of dub, global groove, electronica and ambient. Released internationally on White SwanWorld/Rykodisc, Eccodek’s More Africa in Us and Voices Have Eyes have generated high profile appearances on the latest Buddha Bar compilation, National Geographic.com GeoRemix project and elsewhere. With stunning vocal performances from India, Mali, Turkey, Fiji and beyond, the live 6-piece juggernaut weaves an exotic spell of manipulated samples, drums, bass, sax, percussion, flute and keys.

    OLD SCHOOL

wicked picture dood! I used to frequent the site way back then - mostly to post about Evovle - which more than a few lucky SoOn Jambanders did brave the 20 plus hour trip for almost all Jamband & DJ East Coast Twilight Party . But I also enjoyed all talk-up about wicked new Canadian music as their was a budding jamband scene - Burt Neilson Band, One Step Beyond, New Deal, Jomomma, nero, Fly Jimmy Swift, Grand Theft Bus, nero, The Slip, The Shows at Whipping Post, Casbah, Comfort Zone, Come Together Festival. It's hard to believe it is still going on - and still changing! I saw this picture of Trey while at Moe.down this summer.. and it absolutely made me howl!
  7. hillarious! Big Merry Christmas to the Bouchards and extended family from Toronto!
  8. Did anyone read the story in Macleans about a Canadian woman who wrote a novel so similar to "knocked up" that she claims they stole her ideas. Jud Aptow the producer of Walk Hard, Knocked UP, 40th Year old Virgin etc... now has such deep pockets it's almost impossible to sue them... I wouldn't be surprised if their success has been on stealing ideas from all over the place.
  9. Remeber the Baby Laxative ordeal ? Well it seems that they thrive on controversy and hippy bashing on Stillepost - I'm trying to build some momentum on the board for an upcoming show... here's the link: http://www.stillepost.ca/boards/index.php?topic=96493.0 and at any rate the show I'm trying to get noticed is a CD Release for my friend Dylan Lane - aka the Phat Conductor - and the flyer consists of mostly his album cover - on which Toronto's Top House / Techno DJ "JELO" is snorting something ...BABY LAXATIVES maybe? so i'm playing it up - please contribute something controversal - let's have a little fun with these hipster douchebags.

  12. walk hard sounds fun - if there are any similarities to Guy Terrifico then I'm in.. Guy was one of my favorite films of 2006. I just caught "once" and it's a great film - definitely worth all the praise you've given it Jaimoe!
  13. www.nufunk.ca 1st Annual NUFUNK FESTIVAL presents... The Charlie Hunter Trio www.charliehunter.com w/ special guests The Chameleon Project www.chameleonproject.com Wednesday, February 20th, 2008 REVIVAL BAR www.revivalbar.com 783 College St. Toronto, ON tickets available at www.nufunk.ca at Soundscapes, Rotate This, Slinky Music, Play De Record and Shanti Baba - visit www.nufunk for ticket location addresses. The Charlie Hunter Trio www.charliehunter.com THE CHARLIE HUNTER TRIO consisting of Tony Mason on drums and Erik Deutsch on piano, Fender Rhodes, and CasioTone, are have unleashed their first studio recording entitled Mistico on Fantasy/Concord Records! Is it rock? Is it funk? Is it jazz? YES! It’s the indefinable, yet irresistible, musical hybrid that comes from the master of the 7-string guitar, Charlie Hunter. With its decidedly loose and live feel, his latest release, Mistico is anything but straightforward. Relix Magazine says "What's not to like when Hunter announces smartly constructed tunes, Deutsch drives hom the point often on piano and Lott syncopates the hot rhythms?" The Chameleon Project www.myspace.com/chameleonproject www.chameleonproject.com The Chameleon Project delivers sleek and progressive dance music, using all the tools at their disposal. Urgent and infectious beats meet deep pocket angular grooves. Surprising textures and cleaver arrangements unite in an atmosphere where anything can happen for the sake of the groove. This tightly knit trio pushes musical limits while remaining melodic. With backgrounds in improvisation, jazz, electronic music, dub, and funk they lay down dance music with a brain and improvisation with a purpose. Extracting the musical innovations from the masters of the past and the vanguards of today, the Chameleon Project distill their disparate influences, the likes of Roni Size, LTJ Bukem, Grant Green, Miles Davis, Chic, Funkadelic, The Grateful Dead, Little Feat, & King Tubby, into a cohesive sound that delivers exciting soundscapes and dangerous beats. This is a band that you have to experience live. No two shows are ever the same. Be prepared for anything, but count on moving your body while thoughtful melodies and pastoral textures entrance your mind.

  17. yes that was a great read! - although I thought it painted Garcia as a very careless person - between his poor diet - walking away from almost every relationship - being a terrible father - I don't think that this would be an appropriate read for any 13 year old.
  18. 1.Person you don't know but you have the inescapable feeling you would really get along with when very, very drunk. 7. Kev O - I've met him but it was a long long time ago - hope to see him at a show sometime !

  20. I caught Caution Jam for the first time in 1997/1998 at the 360 Club for NYE - My Deadhead cousin told me about them and that was my first real dead experience. I've since seen Phil Lesh, The Other Ones, Rat Dog - but for me the Dead Experience has been through the CJAM. big ups - I might show up for a bit of this.
