  1. i hope that if they play a herbie hancock cover it'll be something other than chameleon. a call that i made before that turned out and out and out and out. a super gnarly hang ups. My message to NuFunk - ram that request down their throats and you're gonna turn the heat up full blast in the reverb. down with overdone funk covers. just say no to chameleon.
  2. studogg?? holy crap! good show? fun night? what's shakin?
  3. there's something truly magical and candid about rick's voice and how he supports it with musical and poetic ideas. the greatest minds have the greatest hurdles to overcome I really miss my elevator CD
  4. dave-o I'd have to say that most of us would stop at hating it and good ol' \/\/illy wants to know exactly why he hates it. i guess it's the hippy in him.
  5. the show in vancouver was great - but a poor choice for a promoter to book a sunday night at the commodore with so much great competition and great daytime weather. When the Sadies backed Andre there was something far larger about their sound in the mix. the room didn't resonate as much as the stage did. Anyhow, I'm glad to have gone. it was a really fun night out with my girl and a good friend. It definitely felt a whole lot like home.
  6. I'm so glad this thread was salvaged and I'm so glad to finally see those beautiful words before my eyes. Thank you all for making my lunch break end so incredibly well! I look forward to listening to the album and hope to not get swayed by \/\/illy calling it weak. or wait...are the ideas strong and full but have a lot of extra volume to fill a consumer's ever-growing glass?
  7. the net is finally at my place, but i have to get it hooked up via router... it'll be used this weekend fer sure! looks like the annual rainy season has started...
  8. dis‧sent  –verb (used without object) 1. to differ in sentiment or opinion, esp. from the majority; withhold assent; disagree (often fol. by from): Two of the justices dissented from the majority decision. 2. to disagree with the methods, goals, etc., of a political party or government; take an opposing view. 3. to disagree with or reject the doctrines or authority of an established church. –noun 4. difference of sentiment or opinion. 5. dissenting opinion. 6. disagreement with the philosophy, methods, goals, etc., of a political party or government. 7. separation from an established church, esp. the Church of England; nonconformity. yeah...i don't have a lot of specifically constructive things to say all of the time - although some may see them as being worthwhile. hence the orange alert happening (not necessarily the alert itself)
  9. You keep hoping and I'll keep trying. keep at 'er, Jay!
  10. passes through the swearcheck.
  11. you're a loudmouth luke. Effective writer when the time is right. I'm suprised that you didn't say 'serves you right' about the vancouver cancellation. If I were promoting these shows and you berated me publically when you could have just waited for the truth to come to light I'd be wanting a real apology. just saying that you should apologise misses the mark. Why not stand up and put forth a little humility when that 'penguin boy' deserves it? So i push your buttons and i'm right. i don't have anything left to say since i get no slip this tour. fuckballs
  12. seems like we've ignored the subject of this thread. yes you do Luke. I'm sure you'll come through sometime. Try to be creative.
  13. What else could you expect from such personality?
  14. jesus! the slip at barrymore's - i have a feeling the lovely feathers could draw a few hundred people on their canadian buzz alone, and the slip would be a real treat to all the hip kids in o town.
  15. i've dug their CD for a couple of years now and wish i'd have been around for that. thanks for the reminder of a killer find.
  16. i threw in the 'looks nice' bit for fun... right now i'm not going to need to 'go to town' and when the time comes i figure I could upgrade my software. however...the software options that come with the mbox seem ideal. the version of ableton live is very light, and the presonus firebox that i was also looking at has very light software apps. i might - for now - wond up doing one of 3 things. 1. sitting on my ass and aching to record at home 2. go for the saffire cause it's going to sound great or get something in that mid range knowing that i'll upgrade 3. buy a super low end product and just get some super rough preproduction on the go. the MBox2 pro is pricy and i have some pretty strong scottish roots. aargh. poor and cheap.
  17. you're calling for rolls? oh roll call. in and in.
  18. thanks brad but i need to have some flexibility when i can afford it down the road. Great little toy for startup but i know i want more. I'll work a few extra days for a better product. my budget is $400 Saffire Saffire LE presonus Firebox if there are products as good or relatively comparable at significantly lower prices i would think about pandering down. after all, i still need a mic and cables, stands, monitors, and some disposable income.
  19. I have an efficient little Mac Mini and I want to eventually record some music with it. I am trying to find some alternatives to a Digidesign MBox for audio capture and midi routing. So far the box of choice for me is the focusrite saffire, as it has nice mic pre's, comes with ableton live, and looks really nice. I don't need any recording software as my mac has garageband. I only have a computer so I'll also need some reference speakers, but have been toying around with the idea of routing it through a stereo. I also lack headphones, a midi keyboard controller, a mixer, microphones, and the money to get it all at once so I'm beginning with the sound card. What's everybody else using and why is it great/horrible/inbetween?
  20. oh no - is nufunk going to be the New Passenger? why don't you just unsubscribe in your inbox?
  21. FANTASTIC news! Sorry to jump the gun but I know that kid's going to be the coolest kid in school...unless of course he's homeschooled and has siblings...but what's wrong with third place anyhow. All the best from the west!
  22. i like this thread a lot better too, bong. I hope the vancouver show will be LONG ONE.
  23. crazed people make for curious situations
  24. why don't you see them in toronto and montreal?
  25. Wed. Nov 08, 2006 The Media Club | Vancouver, BC Doors: 8:30 PM | Show: 10:00 PM Ages: 19+ The Media Club 695 Cambie Street Vancouver, BC V6B2P1 Canada The SLIP plays in Vancouver with The Lovely Feathers opening. http://www.themediaclub.ca www.theslip.com www.myspace.com/theslipmusic <- listen to new tracks! w/Montreal's The Lovely Feathers www.thelovelyfeathers.com November 8th, at the Media Club, Vancouver BC "Seeing them live was amazing...I instantly felt a bond with these three guys. You see so many tired, boring rock acts doing the same thing over and over, but these guys are reaching out...They're taking what we know of music and trying to twist it to a different place." - Jim James, of MY MORNING JACKET Sunday NYTimes, July 2, 2006 The Slip (Brad Barr -guitar/vocals, Andrew Barr-drums and Marc Friedman-fretless bass) formed in early 1995 as two brothers and a childhood friend met in the halls of high school and immediately fell in together, later dropping out of Berklee college and heading off - criss-crossing the country, releasing their debut album "From the Gecko" in 1997 and began establishing a dedicated fan-base through relentless touring across the United States. The Slip's uncanny ability to create authentic & emotional original music has captured the hearts of music fans all over the world. There is something impossible about The Slip, something humble and heroic, hard and tender, soft and monstrous. After 3 studio albums and countless live releases, The Slip are proud to release their newest album "EISENHOWER," on Bar/None Records. With support tourdates throughout The United States with Indie Rock Champions My Morning Jacket, The Slip are poised to reach higher levels of popularity. And rightfully so, with constarnt touring, appearances at major Festival (High Sierra, Newport Jazzfest, SXSW and Bonnaroo) and theaters across the US, Canada & Japan, 50,000 CDs sold internationally, testimonials from respected musicians, The Slip are ready for the attention they are about to recieve. After drilling deep within their home studios over the almost five years since their last studio release, the band finally entered the illustrious Q-Division Studios in Boston to create a stunning new album that brings adventure, daring, and honest songwriting back to the annals of rock. Montreal's venerable Studio Plateau was used to record one last final track with good friend Drew Malamud (Stars, Metric, The Dears). Entitled "Airplane/Primitive" the track also features french horn laid down by Chris Seligman from Stars. The album was co-produced by the band and Matthew Ellard (Elliot Smith, Billy Bragg & Wilco, Morphine) and with additional engineering Drew Malamud, EISENHOWER easily stands as the most cohesive and evocative work The Slip has released to date. The band's first release for Bar/None Records, this is music that points to the future, synthesizing older influences like The Beatles, Bach, and Led Zeppelin while also engaging in a current dialogue with the likes of Built to Spill, Iron & Wine and Wilco. Montreal's THE LOVELY FEATHERS www.thelovelyfeathers.com will support on selected Canadian and US dates ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ----- QUOTES ABOUT THE SLIP "Seeing them live was amazing...I instantly felt a bond with these three guys.
