  1. wow... thanks for the info Jaimoe, and everyone (except that bastard booche). I suppose we were thinking Greek food as a matter of the obvious so any suggestions there would be great, although I find it hard to pass up a Mexican - Tex/Mex place too. I'd say we'd probably split an app and get a main each, assuming the apps are $8-$12 and the mains $15-$20. That sort of price range.
  2. Within walking ditance is key, we just want to park and go for dinner, on to the show. thanks.
  3. Laurie and I are going to the Richard Thompson show on Sunday night and were looking for any inside scoops as to where would be a good place to grab some dinner beforehand. Sort of mid-level cost please, nothing outrageously fancy but neither something too greasy-spoon - we want to sit for a couple of hours, have a couple of beers and enjoy a nice dinner. Laurie does not eat meat but fish and seafood are just fine. Me, I eat anything. Any recommendations friends?
  4. right on Macca. He's a class act.
  5. very proud to be Canadian. Hope all enjoy this beautiful day!
  6. Saw the show in Toronto a couple of weeks ago. Hey, not the all-time greatest DMB show I've seen but Leroi was on his game all night, notably so. Wishing him a speedy recovery. Tim Reynolds was awesome all night too.
  7. It's an interesting story for sure but, you know, if you didn't really WANT to wait up until 4:30am to see a performer, well you always have a tent (or RV) to go to. Still lots of music to go see next day! I really have no opinion on Kanye West good or bad as far as his music goes. I'd say his real crime here is missing a golden opportunity to maybe blow some minds by just sticking to his oroiginal 8:15pm time slot.
  8. Metallica are silly men playing silly, silly songs.

of "Meet The Press"..... heartattack. Definitely one of the good guys, a real light of reason in the crazy world of the American press fratenrity.

  11. all the best Sean, have a great day!
  12. I need to say though that I enjoyed a great deal of the show. They had their moments of absolute brilliance. But there were also points where the show really lagged, for me. What the show really confirmed for me was how much better the first Raconteurs album is from the second. Miles apart imo.
  13. Honestly, we can just agree to disagree my friend, but that was torturous for me.
  14. "Blue Veins" was 15 minutes of my life I'll never get back, as exciting and as engaging as watching paint dry.
  15. I dunno, until Jeff Tweedy interrupts a Wilco show to announce that the new VW hybrid series is now available at the Lancaster Volkswagon on McDonnell Street and Wilco ticketholders get free detailing, I still don't find it that intrusive. Sky Blue Sky is *still* an amazing album (imo), the licensing of the material doesn't change that.
  16. I can separate a song from a commercial. I don't really see it as a problem. Besides, there's more potential for people to remember the song long after they've forgotten about the brand. Plenty of people were completely taken by Nick Drake's "Pink Moon" when it was used in an ad for...... something or other years ago.
  17. with that out of the way, check out this video and pay close attention to the scrolling text at the bottom. It may make you go "haha". McCain Vows To Replace Secret Service With His Own Bare Fists
  18. ding ding ding! I mean, when I say "DIY" I don't really mean it's the musician's job to do EVERYTHING. A band needs a manager - but it's not ideally anymore Joe Schmo from the William Morris Agency who just takes on a band like a lawyer does a file. No, it would be the buddy, the person who believes, who will sleep on the same floors and travel in the same beat up van and doesn't care. I'm just saying the wholepremise of breaking into the music business seems, to me, to have turned from vertical access to a horizontal model. What even is the pay off in getting a deal with a major label anymore?
  19. thanks dude. Maybe we'll cross paths tonight!
  20. thanks for your interesting responses. The internet really brings out the best in everyone. The Beatles ARE the best band ever. AdamH - Phish weren't, aren't and never ever will be in the same universe as The Beatles. Stop smoking weed. NewRider - yeah The Stones are GOOD but get real. Stop drinking so much whiskey. C-Towns - it's generally good to know how to actually SPELL the name of the band you are advocating. Stop everything.
