  1. I ate six of those mutherfuckers.
  2. yup. Warming up the commercial pack of hard taco shells. Ground beef for me, TVP for Laurie. Some cumin + chili powder + cayenne + salt = seasonings. Some grated value brand marble cheese. Herdez medium salsa. No-name sour cream. Some finely chopped red onion + chopped pickled jalapenos. yeah I could get all FANCY but fuck it. Some nights you just gotta go downtown. (Leftovers = taco salad tomorrow.)
  3. it would have been funny if they DIDN'T play "Don't Fear The Reaper". nice review!
  4. do I have to go see these grizzled old hippies yet again?!? man, they peaked in 1989.
  5. I can't imagine an alcohol-free Crue show. It's just not right.
  6. bad news.... Leroi has, apparently, passed away. http://www.tmz.com/2008/08/19/dave-matthews-band-member-dead/
  7. my sister in law Karen and her man Abe are in Ottawa this weekend. she wants to know about any good shows, parties etc.
  8. well I only have De Stijl and Elephant but I highly recommend them both.
  9. I shouldn't really review a show I showed up late for and mostly spent in the beer tent where precious few seemed to be paying attention. But I CAN say that Steve Earle seemed to be most excellent but the volume should have been cranked up more. I wasn't that far away and it seemed awfully distant. Getting a hero's welcome to The Hammer! he admonished people to stop fighting (twice) and called a dude an asshole after someone threw something at him during..... you guesssed it - "Copperhead Road"! Alison Moorer came out and was a treat, especially on "City of Immigrants" and "Days Are Long Enough". Apart from that, let me tell you that a free music festival on a chill Summer night really brings out some real "characters" around Hamilton. Oh boy.
  10. OH CAN I GET IN ON THIS PLEASE?!?!?! Mike, you really are a beautiful guy. Your triumphant emergence from the womb is just enough to get me through to another day. Be well and eat well, and happy birthday!
  11. absolutely not. the taking of a life is the taking of a life no matter how you look at it.
  12. Thanks for the inspiration and the music Jerry. You are truly missed.
  13. unbelievably some aspects of this horrible story just get worse.

I love when Don Henley talks politics. And to think people find Bono pretentious. Suck me hard Mr. Henley.

well I THINK The Eagles' music SUCKS. I don't give a toss about their "influence" on music - although apart from fey New Country and pussy-ass country-rock I don't really hear it. Hell, Elton John had more of an influence on the likes of Ryan Adams than the fucking Eagles. The music of The Eagles is generally smug, self-important bullshit that commits the eternal crime of thinking that just because it sold bazillions of product, the music is therefore interesting or good. And it's not. I've actually suffered through their latest two-disc opus. It's ridiculously awful. I have absolutely no respect for The Eagles. Fuck 'em. But hey, enjoy the show woo-hoo!
  17. all the best to you on your birthday Luke!
  18. always check the "Mailbag" Lefsetz newsletters..... you'll often be surprised at who writes to him. And you just know he's being read by some silent heavy-hitters in the industry.
  19. yeah, I pimp Lefsetz too much for my own liking sometimes because I really don't always agree with him. But then I read things like this, things that make me think of the music business in new ways, or rather riffing on concerns I've observed in bits and bites but never really connected all the dots on. And when you think of the music business in new ways, you have to think of music in new ways too, which is all I ever expect from popular culture and it's critics:
  20. I still can't believe we made almost 350 albums. With all humility, THIS is why I love hanging with music geeks. C'mon folks, I'm not keeping track of duplicate lists anymore, all I ask is the songs you add be "officially released" in some way (ie. a tape of a show or unreleased studio tracks do not count) and that people can only have one entry per theme. Let's get it on! Maybe I should do a "From The Archives" repost of some theme lists sometime?
  21. Link well, festy's half over now but I hadn't seen this posted anywhere. Today's the second of two days. AT&T are doing the live webcast thing, just like they do for Bonnaroo and Rothbury. thought some of you might be interested on this otherwise gloomy rainy day (at least here in S. Ontario). 04:00 PM One Republic 05:00 PM Colbie Caillat 06:00 PM Rodrigo & Gabriela 07:00 PM Ingrid Michaelson 08:00 PM John Mayer 09:30 PM Black Crowes 10:45 PM Dave Matthews Band
  22. I made the mailbag once! He really inspires my love of a good fucking rant. I loved when he wrote about meeting Kanye West at a Coldplay concert last week. I think Bob Lefsetz would be a fun guy to party with.
