  1. the power of positive thinking doesn't mean as much to me as the power of logical thinking. And if you aim to see the world as logically and unfiltered as you can, you come to realize that there are both positive and negative forces at work, as it should be in any dynamic situation (life being the most dynamic of all). So, to choose to think positively becomes itself a negative choice, as you choose to filter the world through what we would call "rose coloured glasses". It's actually more positive to bear witness, coldly and clinically, to the negative. Denial is negative, awareness is positive. At least that's how I feel. I am as suspicious of "positive" people as I am annoyed by "negative" people.

  3. I long for the days of MUSICIAN magazine, and the original vision of the UK's Q Magazine. They were great reading all around. These days I just pick up a copy of Mojo every once in a while. Maybe a few issues of Rolling Stone per year, but usually more for their non-musical articles. Never read Harp but I shall give it a gander. Magazines like geese!
  4. well, at least they got a photo shoot in. let's all point and laugh at Van Halen!

  6. I agree. It looks nicer but functionally it's inefficient.
  7. I'd like to just say that I am not subject to my opinions, they are subject to me. I also command all of space and time.
  8. It would be unethical to publicly suggest something in this thread. PM's, however, are useful. It really is a game to see what twelve DIFFERENT people can come up with. Sorry, I know that sounds anal but it really is more fun when there's some restrictions to work around and I think if y'all are honest, you'd agree!
  9. I'd like to note that CatPhish voted twice in the Onomatopoeia thread. Crystal, take a time out and think about what you've done. YOU'VE UPSET MARCO!!!

  12. re Zappa - I don't see any direct reference to Tchaikovsky's 6th in these lyrics. Musically, there may be some, but I see no name-check here of the piece itself. Sorry, but I don't think it can stay on.
  13. Plaskett tune is ok because the *title* of a song is referenced alright. Thanks.
  14. the referred-to song doesn't have to be in the title of your choice, just in the song itself. I just want to make the distinction between songs that quote other songs lyrics as opposed to songs that refer to other song titles. Please, carry on! So that Plaskett song should have reference to the TITLES of the national anthems, not just to words contained within those national anthems.
