  1. Enjoy the warm winter holiday, ike! A blast of warmth and sunshine sounds pretty awesome to me. And after the blast of cold, snow and ice in Ottawa on Feb. 5 you'll be nicely balanced out. ::

And happy NYE to you ike, bokonon, and to the rest of the Diesel Dog and Fat Cats crew ... I'm positive that tonight's show will be loads of fun!!! Bark bark, meow, meow ... it's always a great time when the animals come out to play!

bokonon ... keep on bugging that old "tasty" whussypants of yours to come out for the Victoria Park show ;) :: ... and I look forward to helping you celebrate your birthday in Ottawa!

The Sat. Jan 8 show at the Victoria Park boathouse will start promptly at 9:30 p.m. and will end shortly after midnight. (update ... the show will most likely start at 9 p.m. or very shortly after to ensure that we have time to play 2 full sets of music.)

    Peace, Mark

  2. I really enjoy drums>space live, but almost always skip over it on a recording. I was mesmorized watching Bill Kreutzmann during the drums at the last Dead show at Darien Lake that I was at ... at one point Mickey Hart threw his drum sticks down with a grin on his face as he "gave up" trying to keep up with Kreutzmann.

In general, I am a fan of live drum solos by talented drummers, but rarely do they seem to grab me when recorded.

    Peace, Mark

  3. Wish I could have made this one ... I always have a great time in Chatham (well I'm 3 for 3 at this point anyway).

We had a practice jam last night that went until fairly late, and without a time or teleportation machine I just couldn't get to Chatham in time for this.

    Happy holidaze Chatham peeps.

Babsy and/or Mud ... if you're reading this call me if/when you can.

    Peace, Mark

  4. Exciting news, that's for sure!!!

I am so very happy for the two of you, and Liana and I wish you nothing but the best as you head down the parenthood path. Don't be shy about calling if you need any help or support.

And c-towns, if I'm reading your post correctly, congratulations are in order for you as well?

Babies here, babies there, babies babies everywhere ...

    Peace, Mark

  5. "The best I saw was 07-16-90"

This Rich Stadium show is possibly my favourite of all of the Dead shows I've been to, for many reasons.

I'm looking out the window of my office as the snow falls and I'm thinking warm summer thoughts ... camping in Allegany State Park with a bunch of friends ... road-tripping from the park to the show ... pre-show parking-lot shenanigans ... and that show ... wow ... brings a smile to my face and makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside ...

    Peace, Mark

  6. Thanks for the kind words Del ... I don't think that I've seen you since that birthday show ... it's been too long ... there's still lots of time and big events between now and Feb. 5 but time has this way of passing by and then presto what was far in the future is now now ... it will be a treat to connect with everyone in Ottawa ... it's been way too long since I've been there!

    Peace, Mark

  7. "knowing you, this will stretch out into a week long event."

I was thinking that it may stretch out into next year's birthday! ;) ::

All the best to you Jhamie ... you provide much support and encouragement to people with your words and actions.

    Have a great day!

    Peace, Mark

  8. "Plus it's a trip to see Tonin on the stage as opposed to dancing in front of it..." The nice thing about Harvard Mouse opening up for Diesel Dog is that I get to do both! ;) :: ;) :: ... and I'm very much looking forward to it! ... this show lineup has always worked very well in Kitchener ... I'm optimistic that the same will hold true in Ottawa.

    Peace, Mark

  9. "Thanks to Tonin for letting me talk your ear off." ... you're most welcome, SugarMegs ... totally understandable given the news you'd just heard! :: ;)

I'm glad I made it out to this show after all ... sweet music, awesome people ... always a positive energy buzz up at the Lanc with so many kind people around.

    Peace, Mark

  10. A very belated reply to this post, but it's been pretty much non-stop for mark tonin for the last 2 weeks ... work, family, music, family, work, family, music, family, work, a bit of sleep ...

My nero weekend consisted of only one night, but it was a special one, that's for sure. It was a treat to be able to have the nero boys play in Kitchener at the Lanc one last time before the big break, and having Mike & Jeff join them on stage was a very special moment.

Huge props to Eric Warren for the great sound and the awesome lights.

Thanks to everyone else who helped to promote, set up, tear down, etc., and to those of you that hosted before and after. I am always amazed at how many people are willing to pitch in and help out when called upon.

Thank you to everyone who made it to the show. Shows only work when people go to them, so thanks to everyone for being there, especially to those of you that made that long journey down the 401. It is such a treat to look around and see smiling faces and dancing bodies from all across Ontario. And it's such a treat to be able to read people's thoughts and pics from the show ... thanks for sharing.

Speaking of treats, may the wonderful taste of sweet nero candy remain for a long time!

    Peace, Mark

  11. Happy super-belated birthday Shannon! It was a treat to see you at the Lanc for the nero show, and I look forward to seeing your smiling face and dancing body again in the future.

    Peace, Mark

  13. Really excited to read that a big crew will be out for this show, including lots of out-of-town guests. The energy at a show seems to jump to another level when people have travelled to be there.

I posted this info in another thread but this is the thread that seems to be getting all of action, so here is the show info again:

    Friday Dec. 10

    upstairs at the Lancaster Tavern

    574 Lancaster St. W., Kitchener

    nero

with special opening act Mike & Jeff from the Burt Neilson Band

and sound & lights by Eric Warren

    $8 at the door

    19+

    doors at 9 p.m.; show starts at 10 p.m.

Eric is going to pull out all the stops for this show ... it's one of the last nero shows for a while ... there's a good chance that some "sit-ins" are going to happen ... all signs point to a raging good time!

    Directions from Highway 401:

    - Exit onto Highway 8 to Kitchener (if you are coming from London it can be a bit trickier ... if you end up with different Highway 8 choices follow the one that says something like "Highway 8 West Kitchener/Waterloo"

    - Exit onto Highway 85 to Waterloo (used to be called Highway 86)

    - Take the Bridgeport Road exit and when you come to the stop sign turn left onto Bridgeport Road

    - Turn left onto Lancaster Street

    - Look for the Lancaster Tavern (“The Lanc”) on your right – there is a boat docked in the air – you’ll see it!

    - Go in the front door and up the stairs immediately to your left

    Peace, Mark
