  1. Ok, I know that this show has already been posted about and talked about, but I can't help it ... I'm excited!

    ----------

    Friday Dec. 10

    upstairs at the Lancaster Tavern

    574 Lancaster St. W., Kitchener

    nero

with special opening act Mike & Jeff from the Burt Neilson Band

and sound & lights by Eric Warren

    $8 at the door

    19+

    doors at 9 p.m.; show starts at 10 p.m.

Eric is going to pull out all the stops for this show ... it's one of the last nero shows for a while ... there's a good chance that some "sit-ins" are going to happen ... all signs point to a raging good time!

    Directions from Highway 401:

    - Exit onto Highway 8 to Kitchener

    - Exit onto Highway 85 to Waterloo (used to be called Highway 86)

    - Take the Bridgeport Road exit and when you come to the stop sign turn left onto Bridgeport Road

    - Turn left onto Lancaster Street

    - Look for the Lancaster Tavern (“The Lanc”) on your right – there is a boat docked in the air – you’ll see it!

    - Go in the front door and up the stairs immediately to your left

    ----------

I am very much looking forward to this show, for so many reasons. Jay McConnery from nero is the first person that I ever met from this scene on the Internet. My life has been so enriched since then. This will be a bittersweet show for me, and the emotional energy is already coming out in a big way.

    Peace, Mark

  2. Set One was really good.

    Set Two was raging!

More loops and samples than I remember from the last time seeing them, but that was in the spring of 2003 and these guys experiment and push boundaries.

And it is a treat to watch them feed off of each other.

I love it when they get into the heavy jazz, and although they are "not a groovy jamband" ;)when they lay down the heavy grooves.

    Peace, Mark

  3. "Once my cousin ate so much spaghetti she fell asleep at the table face down in her plate of noodles" ... that happened to my daughter once when she was really young ... or was it a bowl of soup that she fell asleep in? ... maybe the plate of noodles ended up on her head? ... hmmm ... now I'm hungry ... and tired ... but not too tired to say "I'm X-cited!!!"

    Peace, Mark

  4. I've seen Special Ed a couple of times ... a very solid band with an original approach and some excellent songs. I agree with bradm that they do have more of an alternative rock sound live, at least more so than the songs on that sampler disc would indicate. They do play some funky, jammy songs live, but it's not the bulk of their material, at least not that I remember.

And yes, Dave Patel is the drummer for the band. He used to drum for JukeJoint, and he is awesome!

I really like their cd entitled ARE YOU OK?

I haven't seen the band in a while though, it's been over a year I think.

    Peace, Mark

  5. I'm going to try to make it for at least part of the night, but I've got lots going on so I'm not positive.

These guys play really well. Harvard Mouse has really enjoyed sharing the stage with Rose Garland, and we look forward to doing so again in Milton on Dec. 11.

I think a few of the other mice might be coming out to Saturday night's show at the Lanc.

    Peace, Mark

  6. Meggo, you are merely the newest link in a chain of caring educators and your turn will come to return the favor not just to a new teacher, but maybe to an old one like me (or an even older one like Tonin, ha! Just kidding buddy)

I've never known you to be anything but a ray of light, Meggo. See you at New Year's.

Wise words my friend and colleague ... with age comes wisdom ;) ::

As an aside, my meeting today with my VP went well ... sometimes it is very healthy to reflect upon things, which is what the meeting was mainly about.

And honestly meggo, don't ever hesitate to ask for support. Teaching, especially in the early years, can be extremely challenging and emotionally-draining. It's nice to be able to help out a friend and colleague.

    Peace, Mark

  7. Thanks for the thanks meggo ... I'm glad I could help out with some supportive words ... perhaps I'll use this as an example of "providing support to a teaching colleague" when I meet with my VP tomorrow to discuss my teacher performance appraisal for this year. ::

Hope to see you again in the near future!

    Peace, Mark

  8. Hey Josh and the rest of the Cats,

Looking forward to your next Kitchener show!

    Fri. Jan. 21

    upstairs at the Lancaster Tavern

    574 Lancaster St. West, Kitchener

Fat Cats chasing a Harvard Mouse

with a drum circle between bands led by Organic Groove

See you then for sure, and hopefully before!

    Peace, Mark

  9. Hey there dark starr and Rose Garland,

Nice to see a new web site for you guys ... looking good.

This Sat. Nov. 27 at the Lanc ... I'm hoping to make it for at least part of the night, along with some other mice.

And we're really looking forward to sharing the stage with you in Milton on Sat. Dec. 11!

    Peace, Mark
