    Guess the band

That's funny. They look exactly the same then as they do today !
  2. I'll be in Istanbul on November 7th and fortunately...so will Jack White ! I have never seen him or the White Stripes before, so it will be great to check out a new live band. He's playing at http://www.blackboxistanbul.com/index_en.html The Black Box, not too far from my hotel. The best part of going to a show when I am travelling for work, is that the ticket is paid for by my entertainment allowance. My job rocks!
  3. Sad news indeed. I met Brian a few times over the years. Seemed like a really genuine guy. RIP fellow welder brother !
  4. I was really looking forward to seeing Jonathan Wilson live in Helsinki, and last nights show did not disappoint ! My only complaint was that it seemed way to short. He took the stage around 8:30pm and the venue was near full of seated (mostly older) folks. We met a couple Deadheads outside of the tent in the bar area and I figured the open floor space in front would soon be filled with dancing Finnish hippies. The band hit the stage and everyone remained seated. Well, except for myself and snarfmasterC who instantly went up front to the stage and danced to the opener (Fanfare). The second song "Angel" was rockin' and I was able to video the majority of the song before an usher approached me and told me video was not permitted. No problem...back to dancing. By the time the band went into Desert Raven, the floor space had quickly filled in and everyone was smiling and dancing away. It was a fantastic night of good vibes and great music. By 10:20pm, we were already on our walk back to Kamppi Square for a late night dinner and more beer. I can't wait to catch another show. Setlist: Fanfare Angel Desert Raven Dear Friend Can We Really Party Today? Gentle Spirit Future Vision Fazon Love to Love Valley of the Silver Moon E: The Way I Feel
  5. I'm in Helsinki and going to see Jonathan Wilson here tonight. Steve n' Seagulls are Finnish and playing the Baltic Queen tonight (here in Helsinki). Sounds like a rockin' after party show to me
  6. Youtube has some great live stuff I can't remember how to embed here, so I'll just post a couple links to some videos The Way I Feel w/ Jeff Chimenti Cassidy w/ Bob weir & Jason Crosby KEXP performance

  11. I finally get the band name "Architecture in Helsinki" The architecture here is phenomenal. This city is really amazing! I just spent a week in Austria & the Czech Republic and saw some incredible castles and architecture in both of those countries, but Helsinki has to be one of the greatest cities I have ever visited. It's vibrant, clean and very stylish. Peter Gabriel is playing here Monday night, but I will be in Hyvinkaa and unable to attend. If anyone has been here and has some tips for me, I would love to hear from you.

  16. Are we still clubbing baby seals in Canada ? The last I heard Morrissey wouldn't play Canada due to our love of beating baby seals to death :dazed: I'd love to catch one of these solo shows, although I'm not sure how good they would be. The Smiths were (and still are) one of my most listened to and favourite bands. 17. me too :rainbow: fortunately, I get to visit on paid business trips every 6 months. If you are into gardening and plants...head to Golden Gate Park for a few hours. It's huge and the tree ferns are amazing. If you have the time I would head to Half Moon Bay and then drive south along hwy 1 to Big Sur. Not the fastest route, but definitely the most scenic. Lots of beaches along the way to stop at for breaks. There's great architecture in SF, so I normally just wander the streets, eating great food and taking in the beautiful buildings and plants. Terrapin Crossroads is just north of the city..are you hitting up the 3 CRB shows there too?
  18. I am not a hate filled guy at all, but I am totally with you on this one Phishtaper
  19. John can play guitar, that's for sure ! The bass player dished out some fat bombs that I could feel resonating through my body They are a 4 piece and had 2 drum kits on stage. A few times during the night the keyboard player would get behind one of the kits and it would be full on drums with guitar & bass. The Mapo Arts centre is NOT south of the river in Gangnam. It is 5 subway stops away from Itaewon near the Daeheung Station. It is a part of Sogang University. I don't think that's near Gangnam, but I don't live here. So correct me if I am wrong Hamilton. Very nice, intimate theatre with excellent sound and great site lines. I was 7 rows back right on the aisle and no one beside me. I had a few beers before going in and had to urinate twice during the show. Staff would not let me back in the theatre until the song the band was playing ended that tune. I was not happy about that and told them I had paid a lot of money to be there. And this is a jazz show, they don't stop a song and give people time to re-enter the theatre ! My ticket was 60,000 KRW, but I get an entertainment allowance, so it cost me nothing  The show seemed kind of short to me, but was an hour and 40 minutes, so I guess that was pretty good. I really enjoyed myself, but honestly was getting a little bored by the end and was happy to get out of there and get myseldf a burrito at TomaTillo before bed Would I go again? For sure. Was it the best show I've witnessed? No John looks great for 72 though and still plays the shit out of that guitar !
  20. I'm in Seoul at the Mapo Centre for the Arts. Sitting in on the sound check for John McLaughlin & The 4th Dimension. I love Mahavishnu Orchestra & the album Friday Night in San Francisco with Al DiMeola and Paco DeLucia. This sounds fantastic! It's going to be a great show. I'm the only one here at the moment so no one said a thing as I walked in and took a seat Will report more after the show. Its good to get out and see some live music over here!
