  1. that will be a cool show... last time I saw them was somewhere in New York as "An Evening of Yes Music" with Bill Bruford on the bass and most of the original line-up

enjoyed it a lot... great original songs, super talented players

Bill Bruford on the bass? That must have been a special show, since Bruford is a drummer ;)

  2. I'm envious of you folks, I've seen the 90125 TOur and ABWH live but not not current, definitive lineup (actually I have always viewed them as having 3 main lineups : Close To The Edge, Going For The one (the current lineup) and 90125). I've heard recent live performances ... Jon Anderson may be a hippie buddhist (not that there is anything wrong with that) but he has, go figure, actually gotten better as he has gotten older ... which is particularly amazing for a high tenor.

  3. ... but this seemed to be the best way to get a hold of everyone.

To the folks from the board who have been invited to my birthday party (Hux, Bouche, Ms. Hux, Booche, Pootie Tang, bradm, Phred, Sloth, Velvet) this Saturday, May 8 ... anybody else can ignore this whole thread ...

Having chatted with some of you at the Contact/Jomomma show this past weekend, it's clear that several of you didn't even get the invitation, which just shows that I don't have up to date e-mail addresses for you ... sorry for the confusion. If you folks could let me know your status for the party, which is at our place this Saturday, May 8, starting around 8ish , it would be greatly appreciated. Whether you're abailable, unavailable, or don't know, it's all cool, just please e-mail or private message me so that we have some idea of how many people are going to be there. Sorry for it now being so last minute and having to post this on the board, but as I said it wasn't until I was at the show this past weekend that I discovered how many people I had invited didn't even know about the party.

Ollie, you are exempt from this post because you and Christine have already replied :)

  4. Pink Floyd had two keyboards on stage during their tours. Obviously Rick Wright, with Peter Woods during The Wall Tour, Jon Carin in the 1980's and '90's.

Argh, Pink Floyd, another band I've seen live I should have thought of.

Speaking of band's I've seen live, The Cure have had a number of lineups that have used 2 keyboards, including their most recent lineup with Roger O'Donnell and guitarist Perry Bamonte.

  5. I was watching The Last Waltz...

I watched it last night too. It was on the aboriginal channel. Neil Diamond fucking rocks!

I was watching it on DVD ... didn't want to wait :) I wonder why it was on APTN? Because of Robbie Robertson?

While Diamond's performance was great, I gather he pissed off a lot of people back stage ... rather thought he was god's gift.

My favorite guest that show? Muddy Waters , with Dylan, Morrison and Emmylou (yes, her bit was done on a soundstage) close behind.

  6. Great page there Stapes. Lots of missed memories showing up there. I remember whenver I watched Wonder Woman my dad would say. Oh I see you're watchning Iron tits again. I never could figure out what time period Wonder Woman was supposed to be happening in though.

Originally it was set during World War 2, then in later seasons it was brought up to the modern day.

  7. As I said, I am not counting electronic bands, but focusing on rock/etc. bands where 2 keyboardists are more of a rarity ... and for the record, I *like* both Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk.

I am kicking myself for not thinking of Marillion, since I have seen them live with Steve Hogarth and they are one of my favorite bands. Oh well ...

  8. Wonder Woman wasn't Marvel, she was (and is) DC.

Oh yeah, Spider Man live action pissed me off because the guy who played J. Jonah Jameson was bald, and I always felt that the very look of JJJ was the brush cut and Hitler mustache. I was worried a little when they cast the great J. K. Simmons as JJJ (perfect for the role , but also another bald dude) ... but they got him an awesome hairpiece that worked a charm, the brush cut with the little devil horn tufts sticking up.

  9. I was watching The Last Waltz and thinking about how bands with 2 guitarists are fairly common, but how many bands have had 2 keyboard players at the same time? My criteria was that they have had to tour with 2 keyboard players, studio work or one off shows with guests don't count, and this would be in the realm of rock/soul/jazz/etc. ... electronic outfits consisting solely of 3 keyboard players don't count either (Depeche Mode etc.) here is what I have come up with so far, can anyone think of any others?

Grateful Dead (on 2 occasions, Europe 72 with Keith and Pig, early 90s with Vine and Bruce Hornsby)

For that matter, The Dead (Rob Barraco and Jeff Chimenti)

The Allman Brothers (mid 70s with Gregg Allman on organ and Chuck Leavell on piano, and early 90s with Gregg plus Johnny Neale on Piano)

The Band (Richard Manuel piano, Garth Hudson organ)

Procol Harum (Gary Brooker piano, Matt Fisher organ)

E Street Band (Danny Federici and Roy Bittan)

Miles Davis (toured in early 70s with Keith Jarrett on Organ and Chick Corea on electric piano)

Van Der Graaf Generator (singer Peter Hammill on piano and clavinet, Hugh Banton on Organ)

Yes (on the Union tour with both Rick Wakeman and Tony Kaye, as well as the Talk tour where guitarist Trevor Rabin often played second keyboard with tony Kaye)

Mothers of Invention (Ian Underwood and Don Preston)

King Crimson (during their 72-74 tours, there are many recorded instances of violinist David Cross and guitarist Robert Odenkirk, errr, I mean Fripp :) both playing keyboards at the same time)

  10. mozambique! that's one of my favourite dylan tunes. i figured you guys would have boogie on covered but had to be sure... i am so so so so so so so so so excited for the wedding.

what about james brown "hot pants"!! ::

Hiway Freeker played the most seductive version of Mozambique I've ever heard :)

The Star Time boxed set by James Brown is a treasure trove of great songs for all occasions ... how about Get On The Good Foot?

  11. Well, Fiona and my wedding was a Pagan handfasting, so while we were passing the chalice around the circle, my ex-gf Jane sang "As Time Goes By", then another ex-gf, Hedra, played music on her violin ... unfortunately, we didn't realize how big the circle was going to end up being, so poor Hedi ended up playing everything she knew about 3 times :: Later, at the reception, I played a bunch of CDs I brought along, but don't really remember what except for a compilation of Stax Soul Singles and Siren by Roxy Music.

Hey, I was kinda busy that day ...

  12. Great thread!

The first 2 concerts that I attended with my friends were in 1980. I don't remember which one was first. One was BB Gabor at the Welland Arena (does anyone else know who this is?!?)

Wasn't his big song something called Soviet Juvies?
