    May 4th....

40 years ago this May 4th: Four Dead In Ohio Aloha, Brad
  4. Huron's self-titled album. Aloha, Brad
  5. You might try http://www.dimeadozen.org/ but it requires registering. Aloha, Brad
  6. Happy Day, Basher! Aloha, Brad
  7. I've seen Gov't Mule and MMJ there, and it was a wide-open floor, in an old-style theatre (sloped floor and all). I don't think there's a balcony, or if there is, it wasn't in use for the shows I saw there. The bar service when I've been there has been horribly slow, and there may even have been a show where you could buy a beer at the bar in the lobby, but not bring it inside into the music room. (IIRC, Le National is really close to the Voyageur terminal, and the last bus to Ottawa is at midnight. If you ran out of Le National at 11:45pm, you could make it.) Aloha, Brad
  8. I go through about three mugs a day of whatever brand of ground coffee was on sale at the grocery store; this block of three or four days, it's Nabob Sumatra. As for the coffee I always try to get on my way to a show, it's mostly determined by whatever chain has a shop near or on the way to the venue; the Second Cup at Dalhousie & Rideau in Ottawa gets a lot of my business because it's directly on my walk to Mavericks/Dekcuf. Aloha, Brad
  9. In terms of timing, the doors are at 9:30pm, and I'd expect the Mashers to do two sets, each about an hour, with the music ending (as it does at the Elmdale) at 1:00am. Aloha, Brad
  10. http://www.jambands.ca/sanctuary/showtopic.php?tid/255313/ 2nd line New Orleans parade music, with klezmer and balkan and Brazilian and Canadian tunes to boot, made up close and personal at the Elmdale. Who else is going to be there? Aloha, Brad

    "City Sonic"

I caught a bit on CBC Network this afternoon about City Sonic, which, among other things is The other things are really cool, though: the movies are optimized to be viewed on a mobile phone, and you can even have it tell you about what videos are available about whatever club(s) you happen to be near. When you're at a particular featured club, there are bonus features (archival video, unreleased material, etc.) you can unlock. Aloha, Brad
  12. "Subatomic", the new disc from The Spades should be in stores now, and I'm planning to get my hands on it when they play Cafe Dekcuf on May 28. I'm also looking forward to the new disc from Ottawa's Acres. Aloha, Brad
  13. We shall worship...Darius! The world's largest rabbit. Aloha, BRad
  14. Part of me wants to see Tenacious D deal with a Blues Fest sidestage half-seated crowd (much the way New Mastersounds did). Aloha, Brad
  15. I can't remember if we recited the Lord's Prayer daily, but I do remember having the Gideons come in and give each student a copy of the New Testament (w/ Psalms and Proverbs). This was in Scarborough, January, 1978 (which would have made it the 4th or 5th grade for me). Looking back, it seems a bit strange now to have a public school board allow (invite?) a religious group in to distribute their material. I wonder if you might try contacting the Gideons about that: when did they stop going into schools to hand out bibles, and why? Aloha, Brad
  16. zero, come to Montreal in mid-June: Ken Vandermark is doing two shows, one at Casa del Popolo (Frame Quartet) on June 15, and one at La Sala Rossa (Vandermark 5) on June 16. Vandermark 5 is in Toronto on June 17, too. Aloha, Brad
  17. Jenna Glatt is the opening act for the Black Sheep Inn show. Aloha, Brad
  18. I think the Godspeed-member-owned venue is Casa del Popolo, which also has a sister venue across the street from it, "La Sala Rossa". Divan Orange also hosts improvised music. Aloha, Brad
  19. My recording of me playing guitar in the basement earlier this evening. Aloha, Brad
  20. I've been informed that the encore tune, which I wasn't able to recognize, was "Miko Mard." Aloha, Brad
  21. It's Sunday, so there's only the weekend shift here at BradCorp, and we're training some new people. They're coming along well (almost all of them can say "Davey Boy 2.0, please fvck off"), but they're more careful than quick. Aloha, Brad
