Unfortunate for her because she meets the standard or doesn't meet the standard?

Let's be clear on one thing: who was the cowgirl? 'cause if it was doubleB, somebody's gonna have to scour out my brain with bleach...

IIRC, you were saying that on Friday night as well, when arcane was handing you the Pepto-Bismol...

Actually, after last night, I could handle a job as a futon tester...I'd probably put in some overtime today...

Velvet: How about somebody write up this whole experience for "Scene & Heard"? It would be a good way to show how vibrant the Ottawa scene is, and how local support can flourish and work towards positive change.
(The article would have to walk a fine line; I wouldn't want to make it appear as if the owner was a bad guy.)
Detail the problem, your discussions with the owner, the challenge, the enthusiasm, the accutrements, the party, the whole shebang. Getting quotes from those involved would also be a good idea.

What's "Live Magnetic Air"? (Wasn't that the name of a Max Webster album?)

Indeed, it was a show for the ages. After the last time Nero played C.D., I said it was the best I had seen them...and until last night, it was...last night, though, took it to another level, *again*.
The boyz were blazing, having a ball at the same time. The vibe in the room, even before they came on, was palpable. It was like Hallowe'en, New Year's Eve, and a house party all rolled into one. They took all the fun coming off the floor, translated it into music, and fed it back onto the floor, which caused even more fun to happen.
(Anybody else think we should turn this into an annual thing? Make March 31 "Nero's Eve" or somesuch?)
We cabbed out about 2:30am, I got to bed about 3:00am, and got to sleep, well, I don't remember when (being asleep), but it wasn't instantaneous, I was so keyed up.
Then my body clock went off at its usual 6:00am...when I say "drip coffee", I mean *IV*...
Aloha,
Brad

I don't know if you're into retail, but 7th Heaven futons (Bank & Cooper) has a part-time help wanted sign in the window.

I was at Jazzberry Ram until about 11:30. The music was played competently, but was more in the Frat House Party vein than groove/jam. I thought they were a pretty good FHP band, but they tended to ram (hey, it's in their name) their musical message home.
They started off with a Doors cover ("Blood On The Streets" [is that the song's name?]), and it sounded pretty Stax/Volt, which is a tough thing to get right. I think if I was a power-partying early university student, I'd go for it (as the refugees from Planet Luau were going for it), but my tastes are just in a different area right now.

I should be there (he said, hopefully). What time are the doors supposed to open?

Another option is to use WinAmp. You can get "ShnAmp" for WinAmp from http://www.etree.org and it'll allow WinAmp to play .shn files. (This is useful if you just want to listen to the .shn files before burning them to CD and/or eating lots of disk as .wav files.)
To convert .shn to .wav, I just use WinAmp and set it to use the DiskWriter output plug-in.
I also use "md5sum" to check the .md5 files and make sure I've downloaded everything properly.

Let's see...
Wednesday: Jazzberry Ram
Thursday: Raggamuffin
Friday: Ferriswheeler / Dr. Huxtable
Sunday: Nero
If I can find something for Saturday, it'll be 5 mights running ("Anything worth doing is worth overdoing" / "Nothing exceeds like excess").
Maybe we could use the Phish Sanctuary nametags or the money for frequent event points...when you attend a Phish Sanctified event, you get a stamp or some Phish Bucks...at the end of the year (or a season), the stamps/Bucks can be redeemed for valuable merchandise (e.g., a request auction: chances to request a song are auctioned off to the highest bidder in Phish Bucks) or door fees.
So what's on Saturday?

I might be tempted to go, based on the name alone. Where and when?

How about playing "Monday, Monday", with a segue' to "The Fool On The Hill"? With a little encouragement, you might even get some audience participation...

Here's what I'm thinking of doing:
1. shrink the Phish Sanctuary logo down to a graphic about 1.5" x 1.5"
2. shrink my avatar icon down to about 0.75" x 0.75"
3. put the logo and icon side-by-side, with the logo on the left and the icon top-right
4. put "bradm" in bold letters under the icon
5. print the graphic in colour
6. cut it to fit and slip it into an old name tag pin
At least, that's the plan...

Why do I have a vision of some secret genetic experiment lab where you've created a bass player out of spare parts...a bass player who's a crime against nature*...I can see it now: "The Island Of Dr. Huxtable"...
Is he at least coming to the gig on Friday?
Aloha,
Brad
* No offence intended against the guy, I'm sure he's nice, but I'm going for a vision here...

I'm looking forward to it. From watching the Bravo! show, it was much more interesting to listen to than the typical slap'n'pop "combat" duelling basses.
Isn't this going to be the debut of the new bass Huxtable, though?

I saw a program on Bravo! once featuring Alain Caron (bassist in Uzeb, among other accomplishments) and Michel Donato (whom I'd never seen before, but who is what seems like another bass master) playing duets.
The nice thing, Michel said, is that usually, when a bass player takes a solo, you don't have any backing except the drums...with two bass players, the soloist gets a backing bass player, which Michel said was what was so cool about playing with Alain. They didn't so much do duelling bass, but foreground/background playing.

What would be cool would be life-sized cardboard cutouts of the Sanctuarians who would be there but can't because of other commitments...if you wanted to be represented, you'd attach a fiver to your cutout for the door fee, have someone carry it in for you and set it up, have some cardboard cutouts of the drinks of your choice, maybe have someone shake your cutout around to make like you're dancing, arrange ahead of time if you want it to get so cardboard drunk it hits on people and/or falls over...

Whoa...doubleB, you're saying you're good at being single and surrounded by attractive men in a jacuzzi? Personally, I wouldn't drink single malt in a jacuzzi, there's too much chance of spillage or dilution.

Mahavishnu - What does that mean?

I remember hearing somewhere the "maha" was the creator and "vishnu" the preserver, so "mahavishnu" = creator + preserver (which is a good combo: creating something without being able to preserve it is kinda useless, and you can't preserve what can't be created).

Brad
