  1. ha, me too. and that's funny, because QQC is the one who turned me on to the beauteous marvel that is the shower beer...and hot chip... and jimmy's lunch... and frontier town... heck, he even played an instrumental part in bringing me here. where he leads, i will follow. b!
  2. in for a lawn picnic with pink & co.!
  3. omg, that reminds me. and sorry, this has nothing to do with bikes. i had this completely random dream the other night that dr.hux was TOTALLY into ballroom dancing. like super excited about it, he was telling me all about it and i guess he had just learned how to do dips because he kept insisting he dip me over and over again and going "see?! this is how you do dips!", with pure glee and razzmatazzy excitement. now that i have shared that with the world....
  4. hahahaha, they totally did!!! also, some old favourites not mentioned in the paper review (and i know i am definitely leaving some out here) Boys Don't Cry Lovecats Lullaby Love Song Just Like Heaven A Forest and the sans keyboard setup was fine! they were able to duplicate a lot of the keyboard stuff with guitars, and there was some sort of special effects unit throwing the odd bit of pleasure into the mix here and there (no idea who was manning it, they were hidden). some songs had a really interesting take on them without the keyboard too. this was the 2nd time i've seen them (the first being the curiosa festival a few years ago -- one of the most incredible experiences of my life), and last night's show was no disappointment. robert smith is as enigmatic and adorable and humble and somehow able to emanate as much pureness and innocence, as ever. they played for 3 hours, no opening band, 3 encores. and wow. his voice is so.fricken.amazing.live. he sounds just like the albums, only better. and he has such a distinctive voice anyway, that to hear it LIVE is positively surreal (especially after listening to the recorded version so often, for years and years and years) . ahhhhh, i had full body goosebumps and shivers for pretty much the entire show. his voice just sort of envelops you in a blanket of sparkles and honey. it was seriously like being on drugs. good ones. only a million timeis better because there were no drugs involved. the crowd was respectful of both the band and each other, and totally into it. MamaPink & i were having fun picking out all the people NOT from toronto on the floor (the ones givin'er, obviously). and it was great to look around and see everyone so happy! i love watching people love music. especially when they look like they are going to drive straight home after the show to suburbia and their 2.5 children and little white dog. great to see them getting to re-live their major teenage love/crush/aural ecstasy when you KNOW they were SO into them in the 80's. there was a real cross-section of people there, yes, lots of black clothing , but i wouldn't even say that was the majority. there were people of all ages, all styles, and ahhhhhhhh. it was just fricken great. i will go see them EVERY time they come back. i think it's pretty safe to say they are not going to call it quits any time soon. the pure passion and excitement exploding out of them when playing their new songs (in both robert's vocals and the band's accompaniment), made it more than obvious we can expect much more out of them in years to come. sorry this "review" is rambly, lacking substance, and scattered -- i am sleep-deprived and still half with my head in the clouds, floating in glowy post-cure aftermath. when MamaPink has a chance to get on here she can fill in any holes. ahhhhhhhhhh...... what a great night!
  5. MamaPink & i will be there! can't wait!
  6. as you should! after reading all your amazing trip logs, i could tear up at the thought of that bike being gone forever. glad it is safe & sound!
  7. Ms.Hux, i have a friend who worked at TelAv for years. if those other people don't email you back, let me know, i can ask him what he suggests for this.
  8. well then i happen to LIKE salon & dentist art. i love all of these! a friend of mine has ever so graciously agreed to donate a painting as a prize for a stag & doe i am organizing. she's given me a couple of these over the years, they are bright and fun and i often get asked about them. thank you all for taking the time to check this out and pick your 3 favourites. pffft, do i remember the wonder woman theme song.....
  9. i went, it was amazing, i am way too tired to even begin to articulate my thoughts on everything, but it was definitely great. we got there early & scored amazing seats (he was directly in front of us for the whole thing, like less than 5' away), and we didn't even have to wait very long to meet him afterwards. he is SO nice, really seemed interested in everyone he met and spent a lot of time talking to each person. he's not really crazy. arty, highly intelligent, very, very, very sexy, but not the lunatic i was expecting. i don't think he was on acid at all for that letterman thing. i think that was just acting. that appearance was around the time he was in rubin and ed (his character in the movie looks exactly like he did on the letterman appearance), i think that was just an andy kaufmanesque stunt. i actually overheard him talking to someone ahead of us about the letterman thing, i heard him say something about how structured david letterman likes to keep the show & i think he was just trying to mix it up. really glad i made it to this, it was super intimate and a real treat. you should definitely bring him back for the next installment.
  10. if you have a moment, could you please take a look at this album and tell me what your top 3 favourites are? the final product will be a painting. i am terrible at picking just one of anything, so i'm hoping with a bunch of opinions other than my own i can narrow this down to a number smaller than 21. thanks very much. *edit* this is not going in my own home, which is why i am would like to know which one is the most popular. (link removed due to bandwith suckage)
  11. so how early can i start lining up to get a good seat? tickets ordered!
  12. PASS! (as in opposite of FAIL! not pass as in "i'd like to see showcase number 2, bob".) not that that was a test. although if it was, you totally gave the right answers.
  13. hahahaha, haven't heard that one in awhile! oh and hi animal chin. welcome. *edit*. do you like ween? and how do you feel about the word give'r?
  14. oddly and completely delicious... so, how is this going to work at the venue? are there going to be chairs set up or is it just standing like a regular show?
  15. sweet cheebus. i have been waiting for this to come up here for months!!
  16. is this the whole performance/q&a/book signing/slide show with him actually there or is this just a screening of the movie?
  17. unless you would like a personally delivered bitchslap, it is WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEber. c'mon low roller, we'll throw you a wicked welcome to the k-dub party, show you all the secrets. one thing this town does have is a lot of rad people.
  18. There are streets here that have front yards and addresses in Kitchener, but their backyards are in Waterloo. Geographically, it really is just like one city. There are many streets that start in one and end in the other. Traffic all depends on where you have to drive and what route you take. But it's nothing like Toronto. You can get from one end of the city to the other end of the OTHER city in 20 minutes, even with traffic. The only real total jamup traffic situations are on the expressway leading out of the city, and even that is improving a bit since they are adding extra lanes. Waterloo is more expensive to live in than Kitchener, but it's not like all of Kitchener is a big scumhole or anything. Kitchener is a lot bigger than Waterloo, and there are plenty of nice areas to live. If you're going to be renting an apartment, it'll be much easier (and cheaper) to find one in Kitchener than Waterloo. Kitchener is also in the perfect location for travelling to places that are not Kitchener. 20 minutes from Guelph, an hour from Toronto, 40 minutes from Hamilton, just shy of an hour from London, approx.2 hours from Niagara Falls, or any of Lake Huron & all of cottage country, different border crossings, etc, etc. You can find amazingly cheap deals on both residential and office locations... just have to look hard enough and have a bit of luck. I say go for it!!! Why the heck not?
  19. that's awesome. you should totally submit that, i bet you'd even make find of the week! www.foundmagazine.com
  20. i tip pretty randomly. at restaurants, i add the taxes and then add a few dollars on top of that. and sometimes, if it's only couple dollars extra on top of that to bring it up to a nice, round number, i'll do that... the way i look at it, is that extra extra little bit is only $2 to me, but it could be the difference between making someone really happy, especailly if they've been serving crappy cheap people that day. at bars, i tip $0.50 to $1 per drink. not usually less, but if i'm running out of cash by the end of the night, i may go down to quarters. i don't like to tip cab drivers or delivery people more than a couple of bucks. i don't know why, i just don't (although if people are all going in on food and throwing money in evenly, i enjoy it when it works out to a ridiculously huge tip for the driver). i tip at the tim hortons drive thru sometimes. this past weekend i tipped the girl working at the princess cinema a dollar, just because my total was $24. if i get full serve gas & the person cleans my window or is really friendly or it's very crappy weather out, i will tip them maybe a dollar or two. tipping totally random people is fun sometimes because if they aren't doing a job where they expect tips from everybody, they are very appreciative!
  21. yes, he definitely did some boris-esque funny voices on tarantula. plus some super sexy panting that was all kinds of white hotness. what a treat. it was such an intimate show and we were so close to him, it was more like having him come and hang out in your living room. thank you sooooooooooooooooo much, miss pink, for making me go to this show. beyond jealous of your cigarette, i wasn't familiar with him at all, and miss p insisted it would be a tragedy if i missed this, so i followed her advice and AM I EVER FREAKING GLAD I DID. oh hawksley, hawksley, hawksley, may i admire you again today? swoon indeed. i'm so proud he's canadian. and like, real canadian. not metro-toronto canadian.
  22. HAPPY ACTUAL BIRTHDAY ON YOUR ACTUAL BIRTHDAY! whooohooo! you are the greatest unicorn ever of all time. thanks for being the ultimate birthday party trooper, ya sure as heck made my night awesome. hope you're having a great day, hotstuff!
