Jaimoe
It's a bad move by the CBC to say the least. Let's hope this can be solved soon. Don Meehan must have pissed-off the CBC brass, since Ron and Don used to always negotiate contracts themselves. Ron's a nice guy and should be back on the CBC where he belongs. He's worth more than the 600 g's he's asking for. Who'll take over anyway on Coach's Corner, that weasel Scott Russell?

scottieking
I say the only man who could take Ron's place (and really I don't believe anyone can) would be the man who he replaced, the one and only, pen-flippin rebel himself, Dave Hodge. Long shot, but it's the only solution I can think of..... Maybe Peter Puck.

Freak By Night
I heard that Ron had a tentative, perhaps a verbal agreement with the producer of HNIC for a 600,000 salary, and it was nixed by the VP of CBC, because he didn't want Ron making more cash than other high-profile CBC talking heads (probably Mansbridge). Sounds to me like this VP is just grandstanding! Hey, since CBC gets 800 million a year from the Canadian taxpayer, that means we're all paying for Ron's salary. Write to your MP and demand they sign Ron MacLean!

rubberdinghy
Best Quote I have seen so far: "Hockey Night in Canada without Ron MacLean is like pancakes without maple syrup," Jill Thompson of Waterdown wrote to the CBC website. "Frankly, it's like trying to play hockey without a puck! It's simply un-Canadian!" So True!!!
Phred
I heard a quote on the radio this morning, but I don't remember who said it: [paraphrase] "Don cherry is just too scary to have on Hockey Night in Canada without Ron." Phred
