Diggzz
Caught him this summer when he came through Toronto, it was a really cool show, Cuff the Duke was there too. it was mostly just him and his guitar for most of it (which I love) then he played a few with Cuff the Duke backing him, definitely catch him if you can. DevO
Are Cuff The Duke playing with Hayden as his backing band? I thought I'd read that somewhere like in Exclaim. Maybe they are the Elk-Lake Serenaders? Fuggedabowdit.

I think I've got the same feelings. I saw them once (only), in an opening slot for Luther Wright & The Wrongs, and, while they played with a fair bit of intensity, their song structures didn't work for me. There'd be these surprising/arbitrary changes, but after they were made, they didn't make sense (to me) or add to the song. That said, I wouldn't mind checking them out again, ideally in a headline slot. Aloha, Brad

AdamH
Give Cuff the Duke another chance, I beg you. Their shows at Hillside and the Black Sheep last year were absolute balls-out energy in country form. I just hope they've added some new material to the repertoire because their Zaphod's show was somewhat of a re-run
purple foot
Great show last night. They pulled out chairs so everyone could relax and enjoy the show. Cuff the duke was an impressive opener but played a short set. From what I heard I liked. Not a good hippy band cause you can't noodle but good harmonies on the vocals and that same riff but uptempo/downtempo kind of feel which i like. some of it reminded me of mogwai at times. I'll check them out again when they roll back through for sure. Hayden was great as well. played a lot of sh!t from his new disc and the old favorites. all and all good show except the screamin drunk girl directly behind me. you wouldn't expect a splitting headache after a hayden show but this dumb drunk provided one. many a "shut the fu©k up" was heard in my area. ugh. good show though. meggo
thanks geoff. definitely a hayden fan, although, i used to find that if i listened to that one album all the way thru... everything i long for? i can't remember what it's called.. but anyway, it was a bit toooo sad and lonely sometimes, but definitely good. oh i'm so blathery today. DevO
I've seen Cuff The Duke on several occasions and I've seen them kick some ass (though not consistently) and their album gets played fairly often around here.. BUT they've been playing the same stuff for a few years now and I think the pressure is on for their next album, a make or break situation if ya ask me.
