Patchoulia
So I have a friend in the U.S. who commented to me that "The Tea" (his phrase, not mine) and Our Lady Peace are great Canadian bands. I was, naturally, appalled by this notion. He said they're much better than the usual crap on MTV (which may be true, but it's sad to think that's what represents good Canadian music). Anyway, he asked me to enlighten him as to some good Canadian bands. So I started a list, but I need help. Please post your ideas here. Thanks! Perhaps we can help this poor soul! Jaimoe
Is this person still your friend? Actually, my girlfriend incredulously likes both OLP and The Tea Party. We fight about it from time to time. Mention these bands to your Yank friend: Sloan The Golden Dogs The Marble Index K-OS - the best hip-hop artist in Canada C'Mon - a great indie garage rock trio The Illuminati - they fu©king rule; southern rock with a Sabbath twist nero From Fiction - check out the review and their website on the main page

Patchoulia
Excellent suggestions...! I should have known he had no taste--he asked me to purchase the "World Cup of Hockey '04" cd for him because they didn't sell it in the U.S. He claims that he only wanted it for "50 Mission Cap", but I think he's in it for the Sum 41. Jaimoe
I missed two key bands, but since your friend seems to like Sum 41 and The Tea Party, he/she may not like their sound. Canada is lucky to have them: Broken Social Scene The Constantines

AdamH
Actually I think citing those two bands isn't bad. He knows more about Canadian bands than most do. I don't like the Tea Party anymore, but when they first came out they were alright. They were at least inventive musically (no, not vocally, I know I know), much moreso than say, I don't know, Danko Jones?! Jaimoe...tsk tsk... Jaimoe
I was thinking that Danko is pretty good at punk influenced hard rock, and he is a good live performer. I'd compare him in quality to The Headstones.
paisley
I get a kick out of Danko Jones, met them at a show or their's in hamilton I got dragged to... very suprisingly quiet and nice guys (didn't even try to steal my girl) was impressed by how hard they rocked it live

Guest Low Roller
I actually like the new Tea Party album Seven Circles after having completely given up on the band with their previous studio 'effort' the Interzone Mantras. Seven Circles is very hard edge with three tracks produced Bob Rock of Metallica fame. Gone is the East-Indian influence, but the Tea Party feel from Transmission is back in full force. Other Canadian bands that I enjoyed at one time or another are: - The Killjoys - The Doughboys - Glueleg - Econoline Crush - Slowburn - The Headstones - I Mother Earth - Bran Van 3000 - Organized Rhyme

(Chorus x2) Check the O.R., you like it so far? Smack your back - Can you deal with a deep scar? I will test ya from the west of ya Now ya know that I'm better than the best of ya I remove you quicker than a Band-Aid Paid backstage and I'm gone like a renegade And I don't delay, want the replay? Like Sinatra, got ya my way I feel lowly so I lay low Never lonely now that I clock dough Flippin' women over like a pancake And I will make mistakes in a heartbreak Recieve honours, make you goners Break the deuce like Jimmy Connors I'm not a phony, preaching testimony Send you down to the bank for the alimony I make light of everyday establishment With content sticking like Poli-dent But I pay my dues I lay more chicks than Mother Goose Pass the O.J., 'cause I got juice Break the silence, and make the truce So yes yes, y'all - And you don't stop To the beat, y'all - And you don't dare stop To the hip, hop, hibby, hibby-dibby hip-hip-hop and you don't dare go off Go off like a canon, you're a copier Much sloppier so I'm gonna' drop ya You got a demo? Well I guess I'm gonna' shop ya Take a risk, like a disk you're floppier Uplifted 'cause I'm gifted Tough like algebra, but I'm twisted You mistfit, meet the better man Gonna' razz you just like Letterman Hip-hop, not a weasel goin' pop You don't stop Check the O.R. (Chorus x2) Back at last to compose the next swift rap Broom in my pocket so I don't need a hip pack Hip-hop tactics is what I be practicin' I don't act, I see heads and I crack 'em Only if they need it.
