Large Marge
Hey kids, I’ve been asked for advice on what’s worthy at this year’s CMW - from a visiting Bulgarian sound man. Apart from Bedouin Soundclash, Xavior Rudd, Hot Toddy and SF&NFTT, I don’t even know who’s playing! I’m going to start researching, but any advice or direction would help. I’m so out of touch from the new music scene, it’s not even funny :: Cheers!

Mr. Musicface
Yo! I'm down with most of Jaydawg's picks, particularly Golden Dogs and Craig Cardiff. Personally I'd add these: THURSDAY The Rex Hotel 6:30pm - Kevin Quain FRIDAY The Drake Hotel 10:00 - Crash Continental SATURDAY Cameron House 12:00 - Russell Leon Band Reverb 12:00 - The Junction Peace, Mr. M. AD
I saw Craig Cardiff play a living room show last fall and thought he was really bad.... Go see the High Dials and Frontier Index on Saturday night at Healy's!! AD
Mr. Musicface
I have to be honest, I've never actually seen Criag perform, but I know a bunch of people who play his songs and speak highly of him so I was really going by that myself. - M. AD
I should have said that Craig Cardiff is good if you've never seen Keller Williams, really bad if you HAVE seen Keller Williams. He uses a lot of loops and stuff, but not anywhere near as creatively or to the same effect as KW AD
Stoolshed
A correction on Jay's post for Stephen Franke & Noises from the Toolshed: We're playing Clinton's at 11pm, but on the Saturday, not the Friday...
Mr. Musicface
Isn't that a bit harsh AD? I mean, again I haven't heard Cardiff but from what I know about him I doubt he's trying to rip off Keller, he's just doing his own thing which happens to involve loops. Can't more than one guy use loops? (Unless I'm wrong and you totally thought he was trying to rip off Keller, in which I case I'd probably agree.) - M. AD
No, I don't think it's a bit harsh, it was just my opinion... Maybe I could have stated it differently... I don't think he's trying to rip off KW, but an analogy would be listening to me play banjo or listening to Bela Fleck or Tony Trischka... Same tool and same kind of goal for the music (to my ears anyways) but waaaaay less results compared to Keller. That's what I mean by saying if you've never heard Keller you'll think that what Cardiff is doing is pretty interesting and creative. If you have heard Keller you'll think that what Cardiff is doing is less than stellar. AD
