AD
A friend who works at the Ottawa Sun tells me they are having a CD sale of all the stuff they've received recently to review... So I have a big list already made up, but I'm wondering if there are any other discs that they might of received that I would like. I've already covered most of the recent major-label releases, so I'm mostly looking for smaller acts that would have sent in something to be reviewed... There's a few discs on there that I already have or are hoping to get for gifts... Heck, if there's something YOU would want, let me know and I'll try my best to see if they have it. Apparently they have crates and crates of CDs for sale. Here is my list of what I'm looking for so far..AD---Son Volt - Okemah and the Melody of RiotEric Clapton - Back HomeSigur Ros - TakkPaul McCartney - Chaos and Creation in the BackyardSilver Jews - Tanglewood NumbersHigh Dials - anything by themMy Morning Jacket - ZSeu Jorge - CruMatisyahu - Live at StubbsMissy Elliot - The CookbookSufijan Stevens - anything by himBelle and Sebastian - Push Barman to Open Old WoundsGomez - Out WestWhite Stripes - Get Behind Me SatanSystem of a Down - MezmerizeSleater-Kinney - The WoodsMC5 - Are You Ready to Testify?Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! - anything
Booche
How do you get in on this action? Invite only? Here's one for ya:
StoneMtn
Perhaps Slow Nerve Action sent in their new disc "Lovenasium"? I know it was recently reviewed (crucified really) in Vancouver's Georgia Straight, so they might have been sending out copies to the media.Contrary to the Georgia Straight's opinion, it's some kick-ass "porn funk". AD
How do you get in on this action? Invite only?I'm not even in on it; a co-worker used to work for the Sun, she sends the list I give her to her ex-co-workers who then scrounge around for what I want.Convoluted, but for $2 / cd it's worth it for me to simply type a list.ADEdit: Thanks StoneMtn, it's now on the list. AD
Wierd. The Son VOlt is one of those newfangled 'one side is a CD, the other side is a DVD' discs, and it features a disclaimer on the package that reads:The audio side of this disc does not conform to CD specifications and therefore will not play on some CD and DVD players. That's strange to me.AD
bradm
Maybe it's copy-protected? Some audio CDs have stuff on them that gets run when it's inserted into a computers CD drive, but which makes the disc unplayable on some consumer audio equipment.Aloha,Brad

Same goes for The Magic Numbers. They didn't get sent any of them for review.
