the Uni-Bonger Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 I'm sure the folks at the smaller Red Rocks could rightfully argue about any given night, but the Gorge is THE place to see a show or two, but beware... The security has been PAINFULLY STRICT in the past. They have at times treated our mostly peaceful scene with the same respect gun toting ganster rap or lost gen/warped tour crowds would get. One year, someone had been shot the night before after a rap show. I showed up the next morning and was told it was a scary place to be at that night (there must be someone else out there who remembers that Friday night, `99 I think). They have a zero tolerence policy right across the board. I have seen sooo many people get escorted out and off that property for reasons ranging from typical alhohol and drugs, large scale-travel pro vending of all types (merch or food), to (get this), to me getting uncharacteristically abusive at a young, narrow minded 'staff member' who was shutting down a grilled cheese" dude. He was all by himself with a backpack, a bag full of supplies and a Coleman stove. With the help of others, a barrage of 'gang verbal abuse' gave the GC dude enough time to pack up and move on before the radioed back up showed up. 'Gang verbal abuse' became a regular and comical defence. We where like a murder of crows when a hawk shows up. Anyway... Either: a. pack enough food to do yah for a couple of days b. join the "food underground" and sneak around seeking food sales like trying to find a dealer, or... c. wait 45-55 minutes to to buy from the one authorized campsite vender, a crappy dry bagel for $5 `cause thats all they have left till the next stock truck arrives, and don't get me started on the cost of water. If you have the means, bring more water and ice than you need cause your gonna run out quick. Its gonna be hot. Africa hot.
greasyfizeek Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 Nothing beats the gorge! see ya there.... greasyfizeek
MoMack Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 I agree with the comments on the gorge. Great place to see a show, from 7pm until 11pm. I just sure as hell wouldn't want to be there the rest of the time. Way too hot, and people get popped for drinking and there's no food. Bring an RV loaded with everything you need...
