Basher
Just thought I would share some information about my newly acquired Sirius Satellite Radio. I picked up the Sirius Starmate receiver today from Best Buy. The retail price of $99.99 is NOT discounted anywhere yet, and if you activate in December there is no activation fee (no news yet on what that will be). There is a home kit for this receiver, which would allow you to hook it up to your home stereo and move it back and forth to your car with great ease. I unpacked the receiver, plugged everything in (I connected straight to the line in on my stereo, so I am not using the FM transmitter), placed the small antenna on the front dash of my car (they suggest the roof, but I was against that), and powered up the radio. I was happy to see I was getting a strong signal. They have terrestrial repeaters for the satellites in Toronto, so weather and line of sight is not as much of an issue as it would be in small markets without these repeaters. I called to activate. 5 minutes later I was listening to Jam-On in my car. Sound quality is good - not CD quality - but certainly on par with FM. The main reason I chose Sirius over XM is the Jam-On station. On my way back to work I heard the Disco Biscuits, JGB, old live Allmans, and it all sounded great. The Sirius subscription packages are as follows: I went on the monthly one for now, as there is no contract and I wanted to "test drive" it. Once the Canadian online portal launches in January, your subscription will also entitle you to stream Sirius to ANY PC free of charge. The Sirius channel guide is available HERE. So far, so good. If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a PM or email. Dead Heads and Phish Heads share peace and love at this non-stop jam band festival. Whip out your tie-dye and Jam_ON. What we play: The Grateful Dead, Phish, The String Cheese Incident, Widespread Panic, Gov’t Mule, Santana, moe., The Allman Brothers Band, Dave Matthews Band, Robert Randolph and many more. Freak By Night
On my way back to work I heard the Disco Biscuits, JGB, old live Allmans, and it all sounded great. Bullcrap! you were listening to Nickelback! I can tell from the picture! Seriously though - a coupla questions: That $549 price - is that for lifetime listening? Is Sirius the one with all the sports packages or is that XM? Or do they both have it? Thanks!
bouche
That lifetime membership seems to be the only way to go. I just don't understand where it will and won't work though.

Basher
I just don't understand where it will and won't work though.Mike - it's satellite - it will work anywhere. That being said, bigger markets have terrestrial repeaters, meaning you don't need line of sight to get a signal. If you mount the antenna on your car roof (it's really small) you should not have any issues receiving a signal anywhere in North America.

Lazlo
I had every intention on getting a system and signing up for the life time membership until I e-mailed their representative and he told me that Howard Stern may not be available come January 9th and if he is I will only be able to receive one of the two channels. Fuckin' lame ass.
Alexis
that was going to be my question...i've heard that stern will and will not be available, and in all honesty that and the comedy stuff will be my deciding factor. it's not a question of xm or sirius, it's a question of can i get stern or not?
Lazlo
As it stands right now, no. But myself and a couple friends are continuously sending the guy nasty e-mails on the subject. 3 Stern shows remain on terrestrial radio 92.9 Jack FM.
