LOL!!!

You're hilarious Jaymz... Keither the freeloader?!!! I've been dealing with Sunshine Coast politicians since December... liability insurance, mass gathering permits, environmental concerns?!!

I'm feeling what Bob Horning has been going through the last 2 years. I can't believe the opposition to good people gathering together for music & camping in the great outdoors.

It slays me!

Peace

Keither

Just added a very special band that will give Bonfire another new flavour this year... we're real excited about this addition!!

MOTION SOUNDTRACK

Motion Soundtrack was formed in early 2000 as an outlet for four like-minded musicians, and has since evolved into one of Canada's finest Alternative Pop groups. Often described as atmospheric with driving energy and catchy melodies, Motion Soundtrack has garnered much success and attention from the music industry and music lovers alike.

Motion Soundtrack's 2004 Cazart!/Universal release, The Bridge, has received much critical acclaim. The group's infectious tunes and dynamic musicianship have been compared to bands such as Travis, Radiohead, Oasis, and The Stereophonics, but Motion Soundtrack has a sound all its own.

Another addition to this year's roster... a little blast from the past!

ROOTS ROUNDUP

Roots Roundup plays a high energy hybrid of globe-spanning music, mashing up the sounds of rock'n roll, reggae, ska, afro-beat, folk, funk and pure old school punk rock. Roots' lineup evolved over the years as members pursued various musical interests including performing, writing, recording and teaching, but core Roots members Greg Hathaway, Dave Hannah (Dym-E-Tree), Barry Taylor, Keith Rose, David Hathaway, Mark Campbell, Shuggy Milligan and Andy Cakes came together last spring, treating a full house of loyal and new fans to a truly rip-roaring two-night performance at Fairview Pub.

Originally formed in 1985 in a small apartment in east Vancouver, Roots Roundup became widely known through the late 80's and early 90's as one of Canada's hardest working, hardest touring and hardest rockin' worldbeat dance bands. They released numerous independent recordings including "Get Rooted", "What We Do", "Syzygy" and in 1997, "Rootrospective", a 16 song collection spanning their entire recording career.

I risk coming across as rude as it's not my festival, but do you take requests???

mine would be:

the be good tanyas

sekoya

zubot and dawson

rabnett 5

chinchilla

Springer and Ducommun Group

1 Luv (ask amalia from sekoya as she would be working double duty)

these would be great additions to the lineup and would make it more ecclectic and lively.

and don't forget brickhouse keither.

that would be silly.

this is one of the only events i really want to do this summer.

Three more to add to the growing list of performers!!

Here they are!

DOPPLER DEFECT

This 3-piece, jazz influenced drum&bass outfit features Rich Rabnett (guitars), Dan Gaucher (drums) and Mike Kennedy (Bass). All three known for their incredible jazz chops with the Rabnett 5, Doppler Defect bring an amazing free-form improvisational approach to their live electronica rhythms & beats.

**performing a setblender with Inject to fire things up on Thursday night**

THE TUQUES

The Tuques are a six piece all original roots/rock group from the West Kootenays of British Columbia. Their stage show is an explosive display of talent combining hot licks and foot-stomping rhythms... much in the vein of New Monsoon.

Featuring Sue Pepin (lead vocals), Glen Martin (guitar/vocals), Gabriel Gaudet (banjo/vocals), Jonathan Provencal (mandolin/percussion), Jamphibian (bass/vocals) & Matthew Steedman (drums).

DON ALDER

Don Alder plays acoustic fingerstyle guitar with a passion that has quickly earned him a reputation as Vancouvers "best kept little secret". His inimitable style carries on the acoustic tradition of greats like Tommy Emmanuel, Don Ross, Michael Hedges and Pierre Bensusan. Don is a world class fingerstyle guitarist with a "wow factor" that has led to endorsement deals with 5 world class manufacturers and a collaboration with Greenfield guitars to produce a signature acoustic guitar, the "Don Alder G4" model.

Don currently resides in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. His unique style of playing incorporates fingerpicking with simultaneous percussion on the soundboard to create a wall of sound. He is often referred to as sounding like a 4 piece band. Don's music is his own unique weave of deeply textured melody and story. Lyrical and compelling, his original songs are notes of exploration - some passionate and haunting, some hard-driven, others light and teasing. In quiet pieces or pushing right to the edge, Don's phenomenal fingerstyle playing and rich voice captivate.

A couple more additions today.

There you go Meester Craig... I guess the squeaky wheel does get the grease!

MOTHER

Mother is a Vancouver five piece made up of Ryan and Molly Guldemond, Debra-Jean Creelman, Kenton Loewen, and Jeremy Page. It all began, though, as an acoustic trio of one guitar and three voices.

Ryan Guldemond formed the group with big sister Molly and college chum Debra-Jean in January 2005, year of the rooster. The three started working through skeletal arrangements of Ryan’s songs, adding harmonies, starts and finishes, and before the month was through they were performing in concert halls and recording in CBC studios where the first Mother demos were made. These recordings began to circulate, attributing to the growing buzz and fast momentum of this new, young band that seemed to take Vancouver’s music scene a little by storm.

One set of hands that the “Live off the Floor in Studio One†demo fell into was that of Howard Redekopp’s, a Vancouver based producer/engineer who’s worked with such artists as The New Pornographers, Teagan and Sara, and 54.40. Redekopp recognized a fierce originality in Mother’s sound and began working with the band to conceptualize a full length album. The result was a self titled debut recorded predominately in Mother’s living room, using a fairly unconventional method of recording. Many of the song’s bed tracks were live off the floor performances of just guitar and three voices, sometimes using only one or two microphones. Additional instrumentation such as drums and bass, pots and pans, blenders and fire grates were then added later, depicting the backwards quality of the album.

It was recorded over a two month period in the summer of 2005, and independently released in the following winter.

Mother Mother holds a collection of fast paced, catchy songs encompassing a brand of post modern pop with vaudevillian, folk/country and rock undertones. What might in other instances make for an incongruent style, Mother’s genre promiscuity is held together by a distinct vocal unity born through three part harmony, shared leads, and an effort to stray form the typical “front†vs “back-up†dynamic.

Faced with the question of recreating an album full of life and potential, not to mention drums and bass, the three sought out a rhythm section. What they found was a pair of potent personalities, and musical forces that created something new all together. With the addition of Kenton Loewen and Jeremy Page, Mother has morphed into a charged and dynamic five piece, making a name for themselves as the bearers of a new music, and a fiery live show.

GRAMES BROTHERS

The Grames Brothers have been a primary force in the Northwest roots music scene for the better part of a decade. The band dominated the BC circuit in the early 90s and was selling out Vancouver nightclubs such as The Commodore Ballroom, Town Pump and The Pit Pub on a regular basis. They took a four year sabbatical from playing together in a move that Johannes characterizes as "wood shedding and absorbing different influences to realize a fresh approach to song writing and sharing musical values"

The Grames Brothers band, consisting of Panos, Johannes, Dinos Grames and Randall Stoll, have successfully melded a lifetime of shared and separate influences into an upbeat hybrid of funk, soul, jazz and world beat. Their new CD Strange Beautiful presents 12 new songs and captures a talented musical family at the height of their abilities.

Since their return in January of 1999 the Grames Brothers have had an outpouring of new songs, which they have been performing in packed houses in Vancouver (The Gate, Starfish Room) Victoria, Whistler and community halls around the province. The release of their long anticipated debut CD is being well received both critically and by their hard core audience.

The band has a strong sense of purpose and wants to get their message out - a refreshing one with quality musicianship, thoughtful writing and intense performances. The Grames Bros. are infamous for the spontaneity, energy and entertainment of their live shows. Jumping from funky grooves to in your face rock, then morphing into psychedelic trance or an audience silencing ballad at the flick of a switch can only be explained by their familial connection. "Mostly, it's just a lot of fun", says Dinos. "We love to bring the audience to a place where they can move both the mind and the behind.

One more thing Jay...

If you'd seen all of the bands on Bonfire's lineup live you'd be fans of theirs too!

I think the 4 you mentioned are the only ones to have spent significant time touring out East... along with Doppler Defect & maybe Freeflow.

TODD TAYLOR & FRIENDS

A superband idea, being built in the spirit of Phil Lesh & Friends, will be assembled & fronted by Western Canada's answer to Warren Haynes... Todd Taylor.

These cats will be closing things out with 2 long sets on Sunday night, featuring Bonfire special guest musicians joining in on the action to send us into the final night of celebration with a mix of Grateful Dead, String Cheese Incident, Garaj Mahal, Steve Kimock Band, Todd Taylor originals & more.

Both times Todd played the Spirit Amphitheatre last Summer were absolutely SMOKING sets... and this year will probably top them all!!

So excited for this year!!!
