there are dos based programs that allow you to look at the fat table, or if there is no fat table, create one.

check out a program like this:

Partition (and fat table) Recovery

or maybe...

also repairs deleted fat headers

I know in my first semester hardware class we deleted the fat table header on a hard drive, restarted...looked like the hard drive had never been fdisked or formatted.

then we added the fat table header, and viola, all the data that we originally had was back...

check those two programs, and i'm gonna look for my first semester notes...

Ouch. I know of your pain. A buddy lost his 30GB hard drive when his computer crashed during a save in Baldur's Gate. It's like the HD never existed. He managed to recover about 60% of the contents, so don't lose all hope.

BTW, nice mix TG. Sounds like a good one. Which album are the Tosca songs from? I have their latest album, Delhi9, and I find it's OK, but I still consider TC's The Mirror Conspiracy and Zero 7's Simple Things much better. Never got into the Propellerheads.

An album that I consider essential for any trip-hop conaisseur is Gotan Project's La Revancha Del Tango. Have you listened to that one?

Hey Low Roller-

I finally realized why I ddin't know who the hell you were in Ottawa-you didn't have a hat on. I remember at NYE you were talking about a hat you wore(expos?) that you always had on...

Me thinking: "Is that Low-roller?"

Me thinking back: "No, he always wears that hat..."

Me again: "ahh right..."

BTW-I have the Gotan project stuff but it's in MP3 with tons of other gems I really wanna use...but all my mixes have a no-mp3 policy...

I just use what I own on disc.

I like the new Tosca album, it's got a few goodies on it, but yeah nothing stood way out. I've got another 4 mixes on the way, just kinda getting back into them...the 'Mitges' track is a dude from Toronto, it's real goood...

I just got into the Zero7 stuff after hearing how good their show in TO was...amazing! the instrumental work is incredible.

TG,

NYE I was very single and consequently extremely drunk. I remember meeting you, but I can't recall any conversations about hats.

Would you happen to have a copy of the Zero 7 show? I'll trade you for a copy of the Tabla Beat Science show from last year's Montreal Jazzfest which I missed, but made Sloth's top 5 list for 2002.

Oh, and have you listened to Yonderboi?

Tungsten, I have none of those files, but I could write a bunch of nonsense and email it to you if you would make you feel better. I also have some strange photoshop creations which you could use as cd art etc...and you can always download lots of porn and then not worry about it at all cause you'd be working towards not getting prostate cancer.

My Two Cents

i'm way past that booche...the txt files and graphics are near the bottom of my list of stuff(except I lost all my illustrator and photoshop originals-years of graphics work and will have to settle for jpg/pdf of what I did put out there with CD's), but i'm just coming to grips with the fact that it will not be working ever. It was my 'personal' harddrive, everythign I've ever written(i have some of it printed out so it's not a total loss), numerous word docs of articles i've written/was writing, all my spreadsheets for work/business/projects, invoices, 1000's of schematics for guitar pedals, studio shit, MIDI files i've written, all the files for music i am currently working on and the past 2 years of music i have written(thank god i keep my work stuff elsewhere)christ the list goes on and on.....i'm past the step of downloading and trying out data recovery software and considering forking out the $500-$5000 USD it'll cost for a pro data recov. company from the states to take the drive apart and physically install the platens in a machine for this shit. fack.

It seems the FAT header has dissapeared-the drive shows up in my system but it's like it was never fdisk/formatted. fuck. no idea what happened, one minute it was there, now it ain't.

thanks for the files trev, that's a head start.

If anyone is gonna send me files use tungstengruvsten@jambands.ca instead of hotmail...

and thanks for the link Bouche, i've been on this for a few hours now-the drive is out, i never formatted it or anything, just took it out when it happened, re-installed it in another machine and tried various data recovery utils. Now I have the drive sitting on a shelf where i am mentally cursing the living hell out of it.

p/s bouche thanks for the walkman...too bad it took AAA's and not AA's-hehehe you shoulda seen the look on my face...
