Hux
They still have the same breakfast menu as SD, although they are going to change the dinner menu.I want them to stay in business so if you liked SD's you'll still like it!
AdamH
Is it under a different owner now? If it is in any way related to Zak's Diner I'm going to drink ipecac and hurl all over their floor.
meggo
it's "jak's." is the breakfast as good as SD's?
Hux
Exact same brekfast menu as SD's - hence my encouraging people to still go, let's keep this place alive - the food is too good to lose!!
bagochips
I had a $16 dinner there that was so bad I had to walk away. So it's the same menu, but it sure aint the same cook. Meanwhile the food at the real Stoneface, on Preston, just keeps getting better and better.

AdamH
That sounds in line with SFD's dinners. They always nail breakfast, lunch is ok, and dinners just downright suck if you ask me.
Hux
I was talking breakfast here, I've only had one other meal there ever, lunch, and it was top notch.
bouche
SFD has a great lunch burger. Been there for dinner a few times and it was always excellent, so I don't know where the suck is coming from.
bagochips
Hey, the meal I had was an African peanut "sauce" over tofu with roasted veggies on the side. The sauce was not a sauce, more like dried peanut butter. The tofu was of the plain white block variety, lightly steamed. It just totally sucked. The veggies were fine but you know, for $16 ...Anyway, the service was good. I'll try them once more for breakfast because they are the closest restaurant to my house, but I hope it is better. Seriously though, they should come up with their own menu. I love that menu but the fact is that the people who created it are still in business doing it much better, not that far away. phorbesie
only been there once and i had a terrible red curry dish at lunch. also could not eat it. my friend also took about 2 bites of his pasta but didn't admit that it was bad, since i was taking him to lunch, he insisted he just wasn't hungry. i don't know if that was the case or not. AdamH
I had their "jambalaya" which for such a dead-easy dish was trivial. Katie had their pasta special and someone had their coconut curry and we all decided that while well-intentioned, the execution was really really questionable. Surprising given the fine job they do on breakfast.I was there for a lunch and the sandwich special was a catfish sandwich and the tartar sauce that came with it had split, either because it was old or poorly made. So yeah just in case you thought I was making any of this up.
bouche
I haven't eaten there in over 2 years for dinner, well before they opened the new one.I remember being extremely happy with the place. I guess it changed.
Ms.Huxtable
I'm sorry to hear that everyone's expereinces at SFD haven't matched ours. I have eatten there probably 20+ times for breakfast, a couple times for lunch and 5+ times for dinner. Each time has been amazing and I have pretty high standards for food.Too bad, I wonder why? Hux
Yeah, I'm really surprised by the comments. I've had slow service there, but the food has been awesome every time I've been there. Weird.
Ms Zimmy
Is it the Vegetarian food that sucks maybe? Some places have wicked "meat" dishes but they don't put in the effort to make great veg. food.
bagochips
For the record, once again, Jak's Kitchen is not Stoneface Dolly's. Bob sold the place to the people who own Kinky in the market, I believe. The cooks they have just don't seem that good. Stoneface Dolly's, on the other hand, continues to make great food. Now that Bob's son Jeff is back in town the food at Stoneface has really improved again. Jak's Kitchen may just be going through growing pains, but for now the veggie food, at least, needs improving. Go to Stoneface Dolly's on Preston and you will be glad you did.
AD
kinki is owned by a group that also owns helsinki, bar 56 / collection, and social. did they really buy a run-down little place on bronson? i don't see how it fits into their M.O. Ms.Huxtable
I'm hooking up with Bob next week to go view our wedding reception venue (he's catering). I'll get to the bottom of this! That also goes to show how much I believe in STF, I wanted THE BEST for our wedding guests.
