LJFH
anyone heard of this guy? Would you go see him if he came to Ottawa?
bradm
I've heard of him (especially his several years of Christmas releases, IIRC), and I'd try to go see him if he came to Ottawa.Aloha,Brad
AD
i'd definitely go to see him if he came to Ottawa. he's a bit pretentious but he's got a wicked ear for melody and orchestration.
ollie
What's he been up to lately? Is Illinois still his last album?* He's not as visible as he was a couple of years ago.I'd go depending on day of week and venue.* This is not a cue for you to post a wikipedia link Brad. djmelbatoast
I just bought Illinoise a few months ago and I love it. A little pretentious but really, really good.I don't live anywhere even close to Ottawa.
LJFH
well, funnily enough, I ended up talking to his booking agent....I just emailed and asked about the possiblity of getting the swell season to ottawa and he/she responded and we've been chatting a bit. He/she said that the NAC would be a great venue for him...

The Swell Season might (largely due to how well known "Once" is), but I don't think Sufjan Stevens is a big enough name for it.Aloha,Brad
LJFH
dunno... I just kinda happened onto this. If there was enough interest I'd pass him/her along to whomever books the NAC etc. Velvet might be able to help me with that one.
Blane
Sufjan is pretty great. I'm a fan. However, I think NAC might be a bit ambitious. If i'm not mistaken, I think he played the National last time he was in Montreal, and that's certainly a step or 3 down from NAC in terms of capacity and booking cost. AD
NAC 4th Stage would be cool...edit - although super small - max 150 capacity. probably wouldn't even fit his touring band, hehe.

AD
i have pristine audio of a toronto show from a few years ago, it's incredible. i'll post it on monday.
Blane
actually, a bit of googling shows me that capacity of the National is 850 with people standing and the back of the room cleared out (which I've never seen happen there), which is about 250 more than I thought it was. What's capacity at NAC?
Jaimoe
I saw Sufjan on Austin City Limits and the pretentious visuals and his wet-noodle music almost made me puke. At least he's better than The Decemberists. I can't accept his "stage of kites" act:
fluffhead77
i have pristine audio of a toronto show from a few years ago, it's incredible. i'll post it on monday. That was recorded at Lee's palace and was broadcast on CBC. I think you can still find it on the RAdio 3 archives. Sufjan is an incredible artist, with mad ambition, but it look like he's faltered a little in the last few years. Greeting from Michigan is a great album, but Illinoise is the swan song... although he does have an album called Seven Swans, but that's beside the point.
