TheSloth
From todays Sun:"And so it comes to pass, San Jose fans learn what Ottawa fans already knew: Heatley gets paid based on completing an 82 game season. There is little motivation for him to compete in the playoffs. The playoffs are not as much fun because they require hard work, every shift and the other team is contstantly hitting and checking you. Consistent with the past, Heatley plays with only one thing in mind: himself.Ian Heide- Ottawaed note: The Sharks were really swept away by his play."To be fair it's now being reported that he was playing through a tough groin injury but whatever fuck him, I'm glad he's done and his rep, fairly or unfairly, has hopefully followed him to SJ. Kanada Kev
From NHL.com Playoff History - The Flyers and Blackhawks have only met once in the playoffs before, with the Hawks sweeping the Flyers back in '71. I am sure that has a huge bearing on this years Final Season Series - Only one game between the two teams, with the Flyers winning 3-2 in March. Droughts - Both teams have suffered long droughts since their last Stanley Cup victory. The Blackhawks have not won since 1961 and the Flyers are winless since 1975. Makes the Leafs last win in 1967 all that much more sad. The teams have combined for 5 failures since their respective wins, so someone is going to finally break through. The most recent was the Blackhawks loss to the Penguins in 1992. Young Captains - Both clubs are led by young captains, 22 year old Toews and 25 year old Richards. Toews would become the 2nd youngest captain behind Crosby (21) to hoist the Cup. Toews On A Roll - Toews has a streak going, setting history as he goes. He's on a 13 game playoff point streak, the longest since Eric Staal had 15 games in 2006. Flyers Big Turnaround - The Flyers needed a shootout goal to qualify for the playoffs in the last game of the season and at one point were in 2nd last place in the conference this year. Blackhawks Using The Draft For Success - Brian Burke should make note of this ... first round pics are important. The Hawks have used six solid drafts to build their team. Keith ('02 - 54th), Seabrook ('03 - 14th), Byfuglien ('03 - 245th), Bolland ('04 - 32nd), Hjalmarsson ('05 - 108th), Toews ('06 - 3rd) and Kane ('07 - 1st). Pronger's Success And Ice Time - Pronger logs some big minutes and they are productive ones. Each time Pronger has joined a new team in the last 5 years, he's led them to a Stanley Cup final, Anaheim, Edmonton and now Philly. Year Playoff Scoring Avg. Ice Time 2006 5-16--21 in 24 GP 30:57 2007 3-12--15 in 19 GP 30:11 2010 4-10--14 in 17 GP 28:48 Gold And Cup In Same Year - Only 3 players have ever won an Olympic Gold and the Stanley Cup in the same year ... Ken Morrow (USA - Islanders '80), Steve Yzerman & Brendan Shanahan (Canada - Red Wings '02). Guys up for it this year ... Toews, Keith and Seabrook from the Hawks and Pronger and Richards from the Flyers. Laperriere's Long Run - Flyers forward Ian Laperriere has played in 1,144 NHL games, 16 seasons, without having made the Finals. Only Roman Hamrlik (1,322) and Owen Nolan (1,265) have gone more among active players. Watching Hamrlik in Montreal ... no surprise there Winter Classic A Ticket To The Finals? - This is the third straight year that the visiting team at the Winter Classic has made the Finals. Penguins in '08, Red Wings in '09 and now the Flyers in '10. Byfuglien And Pronger - Should be an epic battle infront of the net ... the 6'4, 257 lbs Byfuglien up against the 6'6, 220 lbs Pronger in front of the Philly goal. Good times! Booche
Game 2 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals between the Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers earned record ratings for NBC Sports, officials said Tuesday. The league said the Monday night contest, which Chicago won 2-1 to take a 2-games-to-none lead in the championship series, earned the best overnight rating (4.1 rating and 7 share) for a Game 2 in records stretching back to 1975, NHL.com reported. That figure was a 21 percent improvement over the 3.4 rating garnered for Game 2 of last year's series between Detroit and Pittsburgh.NHL Chief Operating Officer John Collins said viewership peaked at a 4.7 rating and 8 share from 10:30-11 p.m., adding that the Chicago market delivered a 25.1/39 while Philadelphia earned an 18.5/29."These historic viewership numbers are the result of compelling stories and great play on the ice, two markets on fire for their teams, terrific coverage by our North American television partners, and a season's worth of unprecedented fan engagement on multiple platforms across North America," Collins said. Booche
Ron framed a couple of his questions poorly and Bettman pummelled him for it. I love their tete-a-tetes but Ron. Ron, Ron, Ron, Ron. You did not bring your A-game to that one.The end said it all when McLean sheepishly apologized for the conversation being "confrontational" and Bettman replied "This wasnt confrontational"Ron. Ron, Ron, Ron, Ron............you could see the look of frustration on his lips for being so pwned on national tv. Huh, that sounds dirty.I think I just guaranteed a triple OT thriller. Im gonna leave that up there. Edited June 3, 2010 by Guest
