  1. When it does show up, watch it I still have to load Netflix on the Wii. I just don't want to fuck up the mod on my Wii by installing the new WiiStore. It's been a while now so i'm sure there's a workaround.
  2. I don't know if it's on Netflix, but I watched The Tillman Story last night and enjoyed it. Interesting character and face-palming cover-up.
  3. Wow. Use the slider bar in the middle of each pic. Wow. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2011/03/13/world/asia/satellite-photos-japan-before-and-after-tsunami.html
  4. better here i guess. Looked pretty tacky not having Max's name on the tip of his tongue. However, I thought that montage of stanchion hits was quite telling/shocking. They weren't culled from decades of coverage, but all from recent times. While they didn't end up in broken vertebrae they easily could have. Was there concern for player safety after those? Sure. But again, nobody killed, so no rush to fix the problem. The Hot Stove had a few interesting points. Since the lockout the average number of hits in a game has increased by 40% So, when articles come out talking about the dramatic increase in head injuries/concussions, etc. it only seems logical that there is if there are that many more hits in games these days. Also, what about that there are more concussions in upper level Women's hockey that's "non-contact? Hmmmmm. Obviously they aren't going to make NHL rinks international size, but damn that would make a difference. We were at a Junior A playoff game on Friday night and it was on an international sized rink here in Oakville. Damn was it FAST and the amount of hitting was very small. Shots on net? 54 to 36 or something Sucks that these incidences result in players getting hurt badly. Also sucks that these are the times that the NHL gets front page coverage in the US. Another "turnbuckle" on Friday night:
  5. Pulled that one out in the third. Phew. Game was frustrating to watch for a good chunk. Broken flow and so many play stoppages. They finally got desperate in the third and did what they had to do. Reimer was clutch ... yet again. So happy that didn't end up in a tie
  6. I'm sure eBay, StubHub, etc. will be FLOODED with great pavs. What a joke. Oh well. It'll be a breeze getting into Darien for $20 or under and that includes a whole day on the rides More money leftover for funfunfun
  7. Wow, get through right when they open the site. Ask for 3 pavs and get ZERO! WTF? Now 6min waits Looks like I'll be getting in the lot. No f'in way that tix are ALL GONE in 3 seconds for this show. Hope the scalpers/speculators lose their shirts on this one. Then 400 sec pops up! Fuck Off Now lawns. HA!

  10. haha Both are GREAT albums. Check online for streaming a good doc on Monk if you're interested. It's called "Straight, No Chaser" and it was directed by Clint Eastwood.
  11. http://bit.ly/dKiez6 Thelonious Monk – Brilliant Corners Although Brilliant Corners is Thelonious Monk’s third disc for Riverside, it’s the first on the label to weigh in with such heavy original material. Enthusiasts who become jaded to the idiosyncratic nature of Monk’s playing or his practically arithmetical chord progressions should occasionally revisit Brilliant Corners. There is an inescapable freshness and vitality saturated into every measure of every song. The passage of time makes it all the more difficult to imagine any other musicians bearing the capacity to support Monk with such ironic precision. The assembled quartet for the lion’s share of the sessions included Max Roach (percussion), Sonny Rollins (tenor sax), Oscar Pettiford (bass), and Ernie Henry (alto sax). Although a compromise, the selection of Miles Davis’ bassist, Paul Chambers, and Clark Terry (trumpet) on “Bemsha Swing†reveals what might be considered an accident of ecstasy, as they provide a timeless balance between support and being able to further the cause musically. Likewise, Roach’s timpani interjections supply an off-balanced sonic surrealism while progressing the rhythm in and out of the holes provided by Monk’s jackrabbit leads. It’s easy to write Monk’s ferocity and Forrest Gump-esque ingenuity off as gimmick or quirkiness. What cannot be dismissed is Monk’s ability to translate emotions into the language of music, as in the freedom and abandon he allows through Sonny Rollins’ and Max Roach’s mesmerizing solos in “Brilliant Corners.†The childlike innocence evoked by Monk’s incorporation of the celeste during the achingly beautiful ode “Pannonica†raises the emotional bar several degrees. Perhaps more pointed, however, is the impassioned “I Surrender, Dear†— the only solo performance on the album. Brilliant Corners may well be considered the alpha and omega of post-World War II American jazz. No serious jazz collection should be without it. – Lindsay Planer mp3@320 Tracklist 1. “Brilliant Corners†– 7:42 2. “Ba-lue Bolivar Ba-lues-are†– 13:24 3. “Pannonica†– 8:50 4. “I Surrender Dear†(Harry Barris) – 5:25 5. “Bemsha Swing†(Thelonious Monk, Denzil Best) – 7:42 Musicians * Thelonious Monk — piano; celeste on Pannonica * Ernie Henry — alto saxophone on Brilliant Corners, Ba-lue Bolivar Ba-lues-are and Pannonica * Sonny Rollins — tenor saxophone * Oscar Pettiford — double bass on Brilliant Corners, Ba-lue Bolivar Ba-lues-are and Pannonica * Max Roach — drums; timpani on Bemsha Swing * Clark Terry — trumpet on Bemsha Swing * Paul Chambers — double bass on Bemsha Swing http://bit.ly/dKiez6
  12. http://bit.ly/egXRSY St. Germain – Tourist Since the advent of acid jazz in the mid-’80s, the many electronic-jazz hybrids to come down the pipe have steadily grown more mature, closer to a balanced fusion that borrows the spontaneity and emphasis on group interaction of classic jazz while still emphasizing the groove and elastic sound of electronic music. For his second album, French producer Ludovic Navarre expanded the possibilities of his template for jazzy house by recruiting a sextet of musicians to solo over his earthy productions. The opener “Rose Rouge†is an immediate highlight, as an understated Marlena Shaw vocal sample (“I want you to get together/put your hands together one timeâ€), trance-state piano lines, and a ride-on-the-rhythm drum program frames solos by trumpeter Pascal Ohse and baritone Claudio de Qeiroz. For “Montego Bay Spleen,†Navarre pairs an angular guitar solo by Ernest Ranglin with a deep-groove dub track, complete with phased effects and echoey percussion. “Land Of…†moves from a Hammond- and horn-led soul-jazz stomp into Caribbean territory, marked by more hints of dub and the expressive Latin percussion of Carneiro. Occasionally, Navarre’s programming (sampled or otherwise) grows a bit repetitious — even for dance fans, to say nothing of the jazzbo crowd attracted by the album’s Blue Note tag. Though it is just another step on the way to a perfect blend of jazz and electronic, Tourist is an excellent one. – John Bush mp3@320 Tracklist 1. “Rose Rouge†– 7:02 2. “Montego Bay Spleen†– 5:44 3. “So Flute†– 8:31 4. “Land Of…†– 7:52 5. “Latin Note†– 5:59 6. “Sure Thing†– 6:22 7. “Pont Des Arts†– 7:27 8. “La Goutte D’Or†– 6:18 9. “What You Think About…†– 4:47 Samples * Marlena Shaw (excerpts from Live at Montreux used in ‘Rose Rouge’) * Miles Davis & John Lee Hooker (Elements from ‘Harry’s Philosophy’, from The Hot Spot soundtrack, used in ‘Sure Thing’) * 100% Pure Poison (Windy C provides the main sample for ‘Sure Thing’) * Dave Brubeck’s ‘Take Five’ as the drum and bass loop for ‘Rose Rouge’. * Scientist (excerpts from ‘First Dangerous Match,’ from ‘Scientist Wins the World Cup’, used in ‘Montego Bay Spleen.’) http://bit.ly/egXRSY
  13. For all that this incident has stirred (and re-stirred) regarding player safety and how the league is run how come the only thing that the NHLPA has had to say is this hollow little statement; So, issues involving boards and glass have been a longstanding focus for the players? I guess it's so longstanding that they will just now "inspect" the rinks? Keep gathering feedback from players? Shit, sounds like most players haven't spoken up at all about this issue during the "longstanding focus" and only a few have made any sort of public commentary to lambaste any sort of concern for lack of safety regarding this situation. Looks like you've got a league, owners, and players who simply spin their wheels and take little to no true action. The only QUICK action the league ever seems to have taken in recent years was instituting the "Avery Rule" almost instantaneously (like THAT was really the crime of the century). That had NOTHING to do with player safety. As for Air Canada "threatening" to withdraw their sponsorship, pfaw. Get some balls and do what Tiger Wood's sponsors did ... JUST LEAVE! That is what will make a mark. Just like with no-touch icing, incidents like this will never be fully dealt with until we see a death on the ice. The Chara/Pacioretty has got to be the closest we've come to that (aside from maybe Malarchuk's throat being slashed open) and still nothing happens. NHL says they are curtailing hits to the head by penalizing players. Too often there is a judgment call as to the "intent" of the head contact. Why? Cut it out completely. Aha! But then they'd have to outlaw fighting ... and we KNOW the NHL will never do that as long as they are grasping for those US TV viewers and $$$. Five more years of Bettman? Shit's not going to smell any better. Blame Bettman for plenty of things? Sure. But also blame those GMs who continue to renew his contract.
  14. Got my 2 fer Toronto ... wish I could do the Waterloo show too
  15. Komisarek = TOOL aside from wondering why the fuck this guy is playing hockey, how the fuck did he get the "A" on his sweater?! A = Asshat, A = Asshole, A = AHL bound?

  17. Easy now. I am not defending Chara or the hit or any of that. I was just making an observation that there are some areas in the playing arena that are much more dangerous than others. In looking for ways to make the game safer, while not having to lose intensity, one must look at where, when and why some serious damage is happening to some players. That is why I mentioned the possibility that they could eliminate half of the current turnbuckles at NHL rinks by modifying/moving the time-keeper box. Yes, I do think size played a big role in this. Just like Esau said, these huge players must be in control of their size and play within the limits. Chara did not. Whatever number of games Chara is out for will be interesting. The NHL keeps saying they want to "send the message" when they enforce suspensions. Too bad they are so f'in inconsistent with it and is it really having any effect on player behoviour on the ice? Do you think this would draw as many games of suspension for Chara now as if it were in the playoffs? (like how they "dealt" with Pronger in the past)? Different rules for different players at different times in the season. Their disciplinary measures are a joke, and like capital punishment, are not a deterrent for most players.
  18. That was one scary collision. Chara's freakish size is a major problem when it comes to these kinds of hits. Unless he bends wayyyyy down he's always going to look like he's hitting high on all the "normal" sized players in the league. If this hit happened any where else around the boards (where there is no opening in the glass) would it have amounted to anything? These giants on the ice are going to get less and less involved in hitting when the NHL calls EVERY hit to the head. I wonder if we'll see a change in desire to have players the size of Chara on your team if they are going to be a liability all the time when they make contact. There's not much they can do with the way the benches are an area with no barrier above board level. Taking out the section that protects the time keeper (and put them somewhere else) could at least eliminate two of the "turnbuckles" in the rink (which is where MaxPac had his horrible collision). Hoping for the best for MaxPac's recovery and return to the game. Scary as shit seeing instances like this
