For the past 3 days union members were blockading the administrative building allowing no cars in. Over 1000 people were working from home. Saved a lot of oil and energy right there.

GM will throw 2600 people out of work who had a signed contract. The plant won't use electricity, the workers won't be able to afford the trucks they built, and ultimately they won't buy as much gas for them or any other vehicles they might own. I think their tactics today (~300 cars trucks and motorcycles driving for 3 hours) pales in comparison to the actions of GM management. Good for the union to fight for their jobs.

what are long distance rates like with Virgin? and do you pay for all minutes used, or just minutes during business hours (ie is there a free evenings thing like in most contract plans?)

Licensing songs that are already written is like getting a gigantic raise and promotion at work for doing nothing extra. Picasso, Warhol, tons of painters / artists etc all had patrons that paid them to create. Do you have issues with that? If no, what’s the difference?

Absolutely no problem with it. More power to them. Do you know how much money some of those ads pay? Jebus. A band I know got a spot on a national beer ad - six figures for a 7 second snippet of a song. that seven seconds erased all their debt and funded a tour and the recording of another album. lots of artistic expression there. i know some bands that have had much smaller exposure with still fairly large paydays. bands gotta get paid.
