  1. There are so many small festivals this summer in the Ottawa area in addition to the jazz, blues, folk and Canada Day events. I've written up a few that haven't been mentioned here - please add to this list! WestFest - June 8-10, Westboro, FREE. Headliners are Steven Page, The Hidden Cameras and The Cooper Brothers. Smaller acts include Silkken Laumann, Amos the Transparent, The Joynt, Riot Police and more. Ottawa Explosion - June 13-17, various venues, various ticket prices (bracelets are $45). Lots of punk, metal, hardcore and other non-hippy music featured at this fun event. Tons of bands. Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival - June 22-24, Mooney's Bay, FREE. Bands playing include Spirit of the West, Whale Tooth, Paper Lions, David Usher, Said the Whale, PS I Love You, Craig Cardiff, The Acorn and many more. 6th Annual Bytowne Oyster Festival - June 24, corner of Arlington and Kent, cost TBA. There are 4 bands playing in addition to plenty of great food and fun. This is put on by Whalesbone Oyster House. HOPE Volleyball Summerfest - July 14, Mooney's Bay, $20-$25. Bands playing include Mother Mother, Treble Charger, Ill Scarlet and more. Arboretum Music and Arts Festival - September 15, Hostelling International Jail Hostel Courtyard, cost TBA. Ohbijou will be playing the festival along with others to be announced June 7 at Babylon Nightclub reveal party.
  2. Partial lineup in Ottawa Sun Great Big Sea Ben Harper Bon Iver Kathleen Edwards Patrick Watson Jill Hennessy Eliza Gilkyson
  3. Think she'll be touring in the east 5 weeks later? I'd love to see her again, it's been years.
  4. Pete Elkas added Full lineup and schedule here: http://wolfeislandmusicfestival.com/site/schedule/
  5. Those are all excellent reasons Sean, thanks for sharing. I guess I'm just very surprised - last time I was able to attend (2010) it began Aug 12 or 13. Still, disappointed that they moved the dates.
  6. Yours Truly, are you working for the festival?
  7. It's the weekend after Labour Day (Sept 3) Nothing says outdoor summer festival like having it in September after Labour Day. Arg. Is it really going from Thursday the 6th to Monday the 10th or is the 10th a typo? Seems so odd to have it so late and ending on a Monday. Oh well. Was planning to go but now that I take note of the dates looks like I can't make it except for the Monday, so hope that night is good.

    RIP Ween

2nd CD I ever bought was Pure Guava, on the day it was released. Sad news.
  9. Haven't seen this posted yet, but the Saturday lineup for Wolfe Island was released last week and is very solid. I expect the Friday night shows to be announced in the next month or so, but who knows, it could be tomorrow. Sam Roberts Band Zeus Rich Aucoin Elliott Brood Yukon Blonde Mike O'Neill Daniel Romano and the Trilliums Hollerado Eight and a Half July Talk D-Sisive Nightbox Little Scream Parlovr Baby Eagle and the Proud Moms Marine Dreams The Weather Station
  10. I walk by that strip mall all the time, never looked to see what is in there. Interesting, will check it out. Thanks Dave.
  11. I live close to Iris and have not heard of this Brian's before. Can you tell me more? Thanks
  12. So, Pete Townshend did perform, Matt Stone introduced Rush, Salman Rushdie was there, etc. Don't know if Rush performed but no pictures of it so I'm assuming not.
  13. He was great on All In A Day this afternoon.
  14. So in addition to the rumours of Rush performing at the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards this weekend at the NAC, Peter Simpson of the Citizen "Big Beat" blog is now reporting rumours that Pete Townshend might show up to pay tribute to Des MacAnuff. Recall that Rush have covered Summertime Blues in the past. All rumours, but interesting nonetheless.
  15. Check out the review in the Sun for a laugh. Ever want to read Denis Armstrong massively overhype a band and then compare a jam to tantric sex? Then this review is for you.
  16. The Quebec Festival can keep The Offspring, Aerosmith, Sarah Mclachlan and Bon Jovi. They'd do well at Bluesfest but they certainly wouldn't bring me or the majority of music fans I know to the festival. (But yes, plenty of acts out there that Bluesfest could have brought in but didn't work out for whatever reason).
  17. FWIW, Osheaga just announced 25 more acts including The Jesus and Mary Chain.
  18. Where are you seeing ticket price information?
  19. Seems this site is getting the updates published quicker in case you need to know RIGHT NOW. I'm sure Bouche will post the complete list once all the press releases go out etc.
