    NUIT BLANCHE

OK, So, I'm gonna be down in TO for Nuit Blanche on Saturday night and I want to know what to expect, where to go (generally) and any other information that might be important for someone who's never been. The only thing I have on my schedule is Daniel Lanois' thing at midnight.... GO! DISCUSS!!
  5. Speaking at UofO at 2:30. Wish I knew if this earlier. http://stephekay.tumblr.com/post/1198458611/free-chuck-d-university-of-ottawa
  6. i read the review and didn't read anything about Phish..... huh? i've seen Dirty Projectors twice (once with David Byrne) and they put on a great show. Off-kilter for sure but definitely melodic and jarring, in a good way.
  7. i'd guess (any maybe someone in the know can back me up or shoot me down on this) that first-time events held with grant money are examined closer than events that have a history of success? I'd be really curious to hear something from the organizers after this event. If he really meant that, perhaps we're all talking out of our asses and he had the best weekend ever. Maybe this festival is only a failure to us looking in from the outside. ($$$ can do wonderful things if you aren't worried about it...)
  8. Where are these statements from the organizers? There are many many many places that offer grants - I find it hard to believe that there is little to no auditing after the fact. I'm 100% sure there are plenty of people employed in Ottawa and Toronto to do just this, federally, provincially, locally, NCC-a-ly, as well as the tourism and arts groups. Of course some groups may be more strict than others, but not all are as lax as you seem to describe. Perhaps they were rich dudes wanting to do something nice and didn't really know how to do things. We don't know this yet. As for the Bonnaroo thing, lots of people travel from Canada and upper USA, seems like a good place to advertise. Perfect demographic. I don't mean to disagree with everything you wrote Sean, but it looks like there is more to be found out about this yet.
  9. I wonder where the capital came for this. Nobody here knows for sure yet. I'd like to think that if it came from any level of government there'd be strings attached wrt advertising, organization, a semblance of success etc. I can't see any of that so I'd be shocked if this was grant money. But you never know.
  10. Constructive criticism in case the organizers look here - Synchronize your web-presence. I was kind of regretting missing the Sadies after dinner tonight (they were scheduled from 5:30-6:45 on their Facebook event page), but their webpage lists them as playing from 8:10-9:25. Simple mistake on my part, simple mistake on the festival's part too.
  11. Shawn Scallen posted a pic to twitter showing him to be the only person there at 5pm today. Ouch linkypoo
  12. Awesome. Sadies rule (obviously) and the new Minotaurs record is really good.

    Cider!

i've never had a bright pink waupoos cider, no. it's apple, so it looks like beer / strongbow etc. they might have a bright pink one that i don't know about, but that's not the one i'm endorsing here.

  15. Ha, quickest problem-solved ever! Thank you llama-man!
  16. hello, thought i'd give this a try... i'm running vista sp2 on my HP laptop. for the 3 years i've owned this machine i've run a s-video cable from the machine to my tv to watch streaming stuff and downloaded movies / tv etc. to switch from the laptop screen to the tv screen i used my built-in "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator for Mobile" - it used to sit in my 'notification area' and i could just right-click and send the screen to the tv, done. last week i accidentally right-clicked and selected 'remove from notification bar' or something similar (that's what happened anyways). for the life of me i can't get it to come back. i've tried all the obvious things like showing unused items in taskbar etc. i updated the driver to see if that would put it back in the right spot but it just added a new driver that didn't change anything, or made things worse. sometimes i can't Function-F4 to send the screen to the tv now. and sometimes once a show or movie is done everything just hangs. (I don't have a restore point set, so that's not an option) I want to be able to switch my display from my Laptop to my TV - anyone know of a possible solution to this problem? or know of any free software that can do the same task but reliably without losing quality?
  17. What an awesome dude! my favourite pic of him:
