  1. Whoa, just checked back into this thread.

Northern Wish, the Donnator idea has definitely been tossed around between us on a good night. But I was surprised at the Half Step. I was just listening to a Dick Picks (5? London England) the other day and the end of the Half Step was giving one of those pure bliss car drivin to work in the morning experiences. Oh well chacon son gout.

Booche, I've got Reckoning and like I said, good days, bad days. Reckoning good day, most though don't float my boat.

  2. Wow, this is kinda turning into confession hour of sorts. Couple of things:

Certain tunes in the GD catalog have always been on the chopping block for me but the two that seem to spring to mind as most frequate are Cassidy and Feels Like a Stranger, depending on the day. Just never got my ya-ya's going.

As for the Truckin debate, Deadheads got a mean on for this song like Phans for Bouncin. I don't get either. Overexposure early on in their respective careers really eroded the credibility but if you ever get a chance to check out a 72-74 (I suggest "Hundred Year Hall" )Truckin, it's hard to deny it's potential.

  3. Okay-dokey-smokey. It's that time again. Time to let your fellow skanks take a peek into your stereo and see what has been on perma-rotie . And as usual, allow me to begin....

1)Neil Young 11.16.76 - a find on Further Net. Apparently Neil and C.H. did a really late show after their first show first part's acoustic, second is plugged - the Like a Hurricane is nuts

    2) Beck - Sea Change - got the advanced copy this week - I love Beck in any and all forms, but acoustically this guy is a genius

    3) Phish - 12/2/97 - I had this show and lost it and now I have it again! The first set is so strong that it's hard to believe they had anything left for the second

    4)Blue Break Beats Vol 3 and 4 - funk it up y'all

5)Ryan Adams 3/1?/02 New York - I dig on Ryan, but I love him more for his Wharf Rat>Answering Bell>Wharf Rat!

Book o' the Month > Long Strange Trip - Dennis Mcnally - finished it a couple of weeks ago and despite containing little to no new tidbits, it's comprehensiveness makes it a must read and a must own (includes full index for reference in the back)

Movie o' the Month > If you haven't seen Amelie yet, smoke a bowl and prepare to have your faith in mankind restored

    THAT'S IT. Do it up!

  4. Man this has been a weird week. And now, this.

Shane, first and foremost, I hope this means nothing but good things for you. Make sure you put London or area on your list of things to do with your new found time.

Nero, I know we'll see you soon. Good luck adapting to the changes and hope to hear great things from you soon.

    Darkstar to Barracuda...over and out.

  5. The answer: yes. The summer: 2000.

I was living in Grand Bend for the summer. My friend had a couple of girls down from Toronto for July 1st weekend. We partied together the whole weekend and finally at the end of the weekend I say to this girl Angie, hey I'm going to be in T.O. this week for a concert. She says who. I say Phish. She says shut up. I say why? SHE SAYS: I run this bar called the Mad Bar and Phish partied there last year, and is coming again the night before the show this year. Do you want on the guest list?

    I said no of course.

Yeah right. So me and one friend were on the list. So we show up that night and sure enough there's a list but no Scott King. Finally, we figured out it was just Scottie. Hilarious. Anyway, after about 10:30, Mike and Page show up. Now they had a area for the band but you could see in it and all, it was just curtained off on one side. But they didn't stay in there for long. I talked to Mike beside the sushi bar with the clever "So did you eat alot of that in Japan" opener. He's not talkative though and so it was a short one. However, Angie had said if I saw her and one of the band to point them out as she didn't remember what they looked like. So I grabbed Angie and went over to Page being introduced as "the guy she hired to point out the band" I stayed and had a Heinken with Page for about five minutes. Two things really struck. A) I thought he was 6 ft plus (he's not. They're all short) B) The voice was the same as all the "Thanks for coming out" I'd ever heard on tapes. Anyway, good conv. about T.O., Molson Amp, and especially Big Cypress. After awhile he just excused himself.

Fish and Trey would show up about 1:30am. Fish was instantly surrounded by chicks so a quick hello, have a good show for him. Trey was the untouchable. In the band area, back to the kitchen (wink, wink) etc. So at about 4:00 the band started to bail. I thought oh well 3 out of four (I'd actually met Fish at a JMP show at the Opera House) and left. We step outside and no shit, Trey is standing right there just walking away from some people. So we say hi, shake hands, and he says "You want me to sign somethin'" We had nothing so we said no, just have fun in T.O. and a good show. He started away towards an SUV with some chicks but just as he walked away he spun on his heals and said with a huge grin "Sure you don't want me to sign something?" pushed his glasses up, laughed and walked away. Needless to say, when he gushed about T.O. at the end of the next show, I was sure he had been treated very well.

    The end.

  6. Some NFL notes for the week:

Tenn should beat Dallas but The Freak is out so be careful.

St Louis will probably beat NYG however Defensive cord. have figured out that to beat STL you gotta make'em bleed. Strahan can make you bleed.

Take the Browns. Dillon has probably developed a substance abuse problem with his new found fame and it's all they have.

    Brutal Week! Good luck....

  7. Geez, with all this Rheos gushing I can't help but join in. Ahhh good times, good times. And don't worry, Sean, Ontario misses you too. Come home for a visit soon. AD, I'll tell Tamasi you said hi (he started teaching grade 8 this week)

And now on to the question. I think I'll tackle this from two angles. One recommendation to non-heads for jamband and one for heads outside the sphere.

Lately I've been springing the Grand Theft Bus set from CTMF on non-heads and they have responded very well. As well, a little SCI has been known to spruce up a party.

And for my brothers and sisters here, check out Gomez's first album, Bring it On. Two wicked singers, Brit band with jamband sensibilites and great song writing. As well, if you're not already Hawksley Workman fans, shame on you. SHAME!

  8. In an effort to defend the board I over these three possible reasons why:

    a) it's a fucking busy time o' year. Some of you are students. Some of you are not but the beginning of September usually is a pretty busy time of year. People may just have better shit to do

    B) We've all become civil and friendly. Go figure figure when a bunch of hippies meet online to discuss music and such. And alot of us have met. So the likelyhood of anamosity (sp?) has decreased.

c)by far two of biggest shit disturbers (I'm lookin at you Treyter and Kung) have spent their time merely lookin and not pissin enough people off. Maybe we're not the problem, maybe you are. Put that in your glass and smoke it!

Til Puddles starts making sense, make mine the Sanctuary [big Grin]

  9. Nero is a big, bad unstoppable juggernaut of sound right. They almost killed me at Frontier Town (aside: first time hallucinatin at Nero show, Jay put your head back on your body) and the night before in London, MONSTER lemondust. Look forward to reading about that one In Neroland. Thanks again boys and Todd (remember the hanging shadow?)

  10. Hey hey HEY!

That's great! However, I need exact details as I have a wedding in Burlington that Saturday. However, I imagine that you would be getting here early or staying late?!?!?!

I was just at Western last night for the New Deal. Turns out it's the tenth anniversary of my own Frosh week (not at Western but Laurier). Still, what a wake-up call. Let's email will some detail!

  11. Oh the Skank! While this was not my first discussion board (does anyone still use the Phish Tape Trader Board), it, as this thread has pointed out, in some ways transcended the duty of a board. This place is as real as any we can visit. In some cases, some of you only exist in my universe right here. Even better though is when Skank reality and reality reality collide (often times when I am a little outside of reality myself) It's a completely 21st century to be excited about putting a face to Cyberpeople especially in situations like these:

arranging to meet Northern Wish and AD at a Rheos show

a friendly guy walks up to your campsite and sits down, turns out it's a guy named Mark Tonin from the Canadian Phish Trading Board

a friend from London's childhood best friends turn out to be in this new jamband called Nero

the bass player from the band comes over one afternoon, bringing Giggles and Canned Beats and turns on the Santuary on my computer

after that watching old friends like Tungsten and marcO (another weird connection) join up

Meeting Backbacon through his/my friend kristy

making the pilgramige to Ottawa to finally put the faces to the names and then build Skankcity on May 24 based SOLELY on this cyber community

OK I'm ramblin like Barlow right now but you get my point.

YOU ALL HAVE BECOME A DAILY PART OF MY WORLD AND I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS!

oh yeah and you're taste in music ain't half bad either [Wink]

  12. GM - EX-cellent. Dinner for sure.

Chewie - Thanks bro, but I got the ways and means. I gotta teach on Tuesday so I'd like to maintain as much control over my travels as possible. However, I am looking forward to see ya and the rest of the Chatham gang aka the 'bacon etc. Woo-hoo

  13. Or all of you guys for that matter. Just checkin to see if you guys all have a place to stay on Saturday. My new pad is going to be a disaster but I still got couches and floor space for whomever. Plus I literally live one block away from the Wiseman now (right by that convience store). Post up, let me know, either way looking forward to seeing ya tomorrow!
