  1. The opening act cancelled so the show will be all Henrys all night. I'll be heading to Irene's right after the jazzfest.
  2. Great music last night, though I got there late. Unbelievably poor service, but that just saved me money on beer.
  3. *bump* because three people have recently asked me when I was gonna post the Bluesfest writeup.
  4. Holy fuck I'm on youtube! The royalty cheques should make the summer a bit more comfortable. Where should I send my mailing addy?
  5. I think I've been anticipating this as much as I have Bluesfest.
  6. It was an honour to preside over such wonderful proceedings. 'Twas a great ceremony (if I do say so myself), and the train ride was a brilliant touch. The reception was 100% deadly. The food was really quite unbelievable (though the dip had crack in it) and the band...one of the most fun Sisters sets ever. Bradm was tortured over every moment of bliss that went by untaped (which was all of them). The wedding set medley in the second set (Chicken Dance>Brown-Eyed Girl>YMCA>geez, what else did they throw in there?) was a sublime guessing game for pretty much everyone involved, and there was even a Donna Lee singalong featuring the happy couple. Anyways, great times.

  9. Funny, it seemed like I knew half the people in the bar and it turns out there were lots of people there I didn't see at all.
  10. are you a dog? That's actually pretty funny.
  11. If you can find it, check out the album Minors Aloud, by Buddy Emmons and Lenny Breau. It's on the Flying Fish label.
  12. Buddy Emmons does a nice solo version of Pachabel's Canon on one of his cd's.
  13. This might be common knowledge, but here ya go: Both the Roy Haynes and Toots Thilemans shows cost extra above the festival pass ($15 and $20 respectively). Bill Frisell costs $35 whether you have a festival pass or not. All these upgrades are currently on sale only through the Jazzfest kiosk at Rideau Centre or by calling the festival. Frisell and Haynes are reserved seating, Frisell is about 50% sold out.
  14. Yeah, sorry it's so long. I kinda got carried away. I love Bluesfest.
  15. I ran over a cat once. Didn't even see it. I heard a *thunk* and checked my rearview mirror and instantly saw what had happened. I pulled over to find the cat had amazingly dragged itself off the road to die. Tearful I called the SPCA and waited for them. When I asked they told me it wasn't wearing a collar but I think the guy might have been trying to spare my grief a little. Those of you that know of my affinity for critters (especially cats) will understand how remarkably traumatizing it was. Poor little fella.
  16. When their cognitive abilities allow them to make informed choices.
  17. Though human on human violence is undesirable to say the least, I think it's totally understandable for a person to instinctively want to defend the rights of the defenceless.
  18. side note: one of the three cars made for use in Clockwork Orange is owned by a friends uncle (another one was lost in a fire, the third is in a museum or something). She and her cousins used to play in the car as kids. Creepy.
  19. Sean did an admirable job but I still think he looked a bit hokey. Macchio takes the cake for me for best guitar performance by a non-guitarist, hands down.
  20. The John Henry's will be Slo' Toms backup band on Sunday.
  21. I don't usually pull the old, "If the list doesn't include _______ it's bunk" but if this list doesn't include Singin' In The Rain from Clockwork Orange* it's bunk. *really, it should include Stuck In The Middle from Reservior Dogs too.
