  1. I just had a glorious vision of a massive wall of crowded standing people clapping and chanting "Pack up your chairs! Pack up your chairs!" as they gradually moved in on increasingly intimidated sitters.
  2. For the record, I don't recommend anybody make the flyer as I suggested. And I thought you made a good point phorbesie about how other standers will see the flyer and realise the scope of the problem. That could be very effective.
  3. And because most of the altercations I imagine would possibly land me in jail, I've decided to try this method: at any altercation I will look at the person and say (or scream at the top of my lungs an inch from their face, if they deserve it), "Tell it to security," and carry on completely ignoring that person.
  4. I'm glad the front screen was off. It forced the lawnchair people to stand up, and maybe some of them realised the were able to stand up for a show and enjoy it.
  5. I just got a call that the letter I drunkenly wrote to the Citizen last night is being considered for publication. Which won't do much good, obviously. I suggested the flyers last year, but the idea was to steal the Bluesfest logo and stuff and make the flyer appear to be an official set of rules. Confusion would certainly reign and it would force the organisers to announce from the stage that lawnchairs take precedence. That said, I think these flyers are a good idea. I wish I had them last night so I could have given the lady I ran into a thousand paper cuts on her face. I actually think there will be at least a mini-riot at the fest this year. I hope it doesn't come to that, but really, these people are truly ruining a great festival.
  6. Where did you email phorbesie? I'd like to write a little note as well.
  7. I'm sure it will be be captured on many cells. It will be loud and very noticable.
  8. ...that gets in my face will lose me my festival pass, and I assure you up front, it's gonna be worth it.
  9. I have no idea what you're talking about.
  10. Bob Wiseman is raffling off his van. He did this a few years ago with his last van and he finds it a good way to sell a vehicle to a needy band. You can contact him at rockbobster@sympatico.ca dear friend/ enemy (other) my 1993 extended ford clubwagon has got to go. i'm making a raffle $100 tickets. 30 of them. i would like other people who cannot afford a good used van to have that possibility possibled (a new word i just invented). yes possibled through this here raffle. it has a gazzilion kilometers but those are highway kilometers for i have used it just for touring all 8 cylinders work very well fear no mountain in this van a little rust around the wheel well but essentially under control, i have faithfully done the undercoating each year cruise control power windows power steering a cabinet in the back with which one can lock up their equipment and not fear loss due to break ins, a double futon on top of the cabinet - sleeps two i will show the van between now and the draw, probably september 1rst, to interested people. carpe diem bob
  11. Keep in mind each beer tent is about 200 feet wide and has about 25 lines.
  12. Yes, that's the Suwannee River from the song. The musical notation is printed on the sign.
  13. My guess is that will be the biggest crowd we'll see this year, except maybe for The White Stripes.
  14. If phorbesie gave ollie a cold someone's gonna be sorry!

  23. Sam the Record Man, the iconic Toronto store where generations of music lovers bought their first records, sells off its contents Wednesday. Hundreds of pieces of rock 'n' roll memorabilia, including three four-metre neon discs, vintage furniture and other fittings, is being auctioned off by Bonaco Sales Ltd. Sam the Record Man's original Toronto flagship store is shown in 2001. The Toronto landmark closes June 30. The one-day sale will include more than 100 autographed posters, framed gold and platinum records, and pictures of Elvis, Patsy Cline and other artists. Auctioneers will also sell off a slab of the store's wall featuring autographs by Tina Turner, Steven Tyler, Ray Charles, Burton Cummings, Gordon Lightfoot, Blue Rodeo and David Bowie. But the landmark 15-metre spinning neon discs that graced Sam's when it opened at its Yonge Street location in 1960 will remain, along with the Sam's sign. The City of Toronto has given the Sam's store and its signs a heritage designation, which protect the signs from being sold and could preserve the exterior of the building. The city pledged to negotiate with future owners of the property to work out a deal to maintain the two discs and the Sam signs on the rooftop "as part of the ongoing history of Yonge Street," according to councillor Kyle Rae. The Sniderman family originally operated a shop selling appliances and car radios, but Sam Sniderman decided to break away and get into the record business in 1937 — in order to impress a girl who was interested in music. Jason and Bobby Sniderman, sons of founder Sam Sniderman, announced in May that they would shut the store on June 30. The store has many antique pieces, such as a five-seat English shoeshine stand, a Wurlitzer jukebox, an oak soda pop bar, three pinball machines and art deco light fixtures, which will go up for auction. Viewing of the fixtures started Tuesday and the auction is set for 10.30 a.m. Wednesday.
