  2. Well, it also depends what show you're at. I received a black eye at a Forgotten Rebels show. I was kicked in the head at a Public Image Limited show. These are the bands and shows where slam-dancing (later called) thrashing (later called) moshing was born. I would have had to be a moron not to expect it. Does a mosh pit belong at a Smashing Pumpkins concert? To me, I'd say no, because they're just a pop-band, but if you get into a mosh pit at a Slayer show, that's foreseeable. I should also point out, though, that when these were only happening at punk/hardcore/thrash-metal shows, the crowd was generally way more respectful, and if you ever ended up on your ass, some huge guy would throw you right back up onto your feet, so you had a fighting chance. (Do I have a point here? I don't know.)
  3. I've come out of mosh pits with black eyes; I've had boots to the head; I can't even remember what else. (Actually, maybe that's related to the boots to the head.) It's all in good fun, but you have to know you're taking a risk when you go in.

  7. Saba allows tourists to stay. It is very similar in most respects to Bonaire, from what I understand.
  8. Bonaire is fantastic, although not really in the same neighbourhood. It's over near Curacao. Totally chill place, and not at all overrun by corporate America. They don't even have a McDonald's on the island. That said, they also don't have too many sandy beaches. They have a few, but the island and surrounding waters are protected environment, so most of the beaches are covered with corral and shells. It is also a world-Mecca for SCUBA diving. I want to live there, frankly.

  11. True; that is their only full-length disc. They have three EPs, though, as well, and I bought the longest one of those.
  12. I have a couple of their discs, now, and am really starting to love this band. Thanks, Bouche, for sending us to this one. I anticipate this group is on its way up, and there is not likely to be another show at a tiny venue like Lees Palace.

  15. The Criminal Code of Canada makes no provisions for kicking someone out of a private group as a consequence of a conviction. In any event, there would also have to be a conviction for The Code and its consequences to kick in, anyway. I think that if that wasn't written in to the union's Constitution and they did kick someone out for threatening violence, they could be opening themselves up to a lawsuit; especially if the person accused of making the threat was never actually convicted of a uttering threats in Court, which would have had to have been proven beyond a reasonable doubt. (Civil liability, of course, is a much lower standard to prove, and this would be a civil matter, but you want to avoid having to litigate this, so I think writing that into the Constitution is just sensible; minimizing risk. That way, if it ever did go to a lawsuit you would only need to prove this person uttered threats on a balance of probabilities. A criminal-standard of proving the burden would never come into play.) Or I think I heard some guy on the street say something like that one time; or somethin'.
  16. Wow, Bouche, I really dig The Aliens. The show was short, but really good. Here are a few photos of the show. We'll try to post a few comments tomorrow. It's a bit late. That was a great, pleasant surprise. Lovin' The Aliens!
  17. It's true. They are heavy as shit most of the time. That is, perhaps, an understatement. It's still clearly Deaner's wailing guitar, though. You can't miss it.
