  1. And while we're getting funky, it seems like a good time for... ... A recording of 'Stuttafunk' by Vancouver's Baked Potato, from one of their earliest shows and lineups
  2. "All That" is one of my favourite 'defunct' funk bands that came out of N.O. in the 1990s. Enjoy.
  3. I highly recommend Joshua Judges Ruth, next.
  4. Nice. If even only one person is turned on to Lyle by this thread, I feel I have done my job.
  5. It sounds like you are looking for "Limited" Power of Attorney (as upposed to one that is "Unlimited" which would mean that the person designated can do virtually anything on your behalf, as opposed to simply having authority to conduct a particular transaction).
  6. I should say that I actually didn't start this thread for no reason at all. I started it because I find that when you tell people that you think that Lyle Lovett is an incredible songwriter and musician, they often look at you to see if you're kidding, and say, "Seriously?" It usually turns out that they really don't know what he sounds like, and think he's just some guy with funny hair who plays cowboy songs. In fairness, he does play a little cowboy music, but even that is amazing. In my opinion, though, most of his music is really more similar to blues, albeit often with a bit of a "twang". Anyway, I love his tunes and I wanted the world to know it.
  7. I really enjoyed it. It obviously wouldn't have meshed well (or even fit in, time-wise) with the music on Undermind. That could have made a neat album in itself, though.
  8. The part you still don't know, though, is that I kinda enjoyed the whole experience.
  9. I can dislocate my left-shoulder. I am also married to a physiotherapist who gets very disturbed by me dislocating my left-shoulder. (She no longer allows it.)
  10. Not tonight, but they sound right up my alley, and they're from Toronto, so some day for sure. Better yet, Rev, come to Toronto, and you and I will go some time.

  13. [color:purple]Maybe someone should consider putting it to music.
  14. I don't listen to him very often anymore, but I am right now. I love this man's music. That is all.
  15. Ah yes. There are a precious few who can actually make a living writing philosophy. When I was a grad student in philosophy, a friend told me he planned to win the lottery, buy a mountain, and employ me full-time to sit atop and philosophize. I'm still waiting.
  16. My ideal lifestyle was when I was in Whistler, but that is a unique place. I loved the small town-ness of it, but there was certainly more than that. I do not like living in a big city at all, but I also would not want to live in a tiny, economically depressed town; as many are. There is also the danger of people being so isolated in small towns, that they come up with idiotic ideas. (This does not apply to every small town, by any means.) I once met a guy from a tiny Ontario town who "hated all Jewish people". After he met me, however, he commented to the person who introduced us that "he was such a nice guy for a Jewish person". (I was the only one he'd ever met.)
  17. Are you a professional philosopher? I think philosophers are fascinating, but have never met a professional.
  18. Not me. I wanna see Crosby break-dance. (Seriously, I don't know how much I'd be willing to pay, but it'd be up there!)
  19. I was once in a band with Velvet and the other former-guitarist from Bob Loblaw, but I was on lead-guitar!
  20. [color:purple]OMG! I didn't even know she was sick.
  21. I'm sure there is a continuum of freegans, but the ones I've known of are usually quite logical about the whole thing, and really seem to have a genuine political goal. Usually, they know of dumpsters wherein you can find perfectly good products that were discarded by corporations for policy reasons, and they go and collect this "wasted" product. They seem to genuinely believe that they are part of the solution, as they recapture otherwise unnecessarily discarded valuable products. If they are being genuine, I think it's great. If they're just being cheap bums ... who am I to judge? They're not hurting anyone. "One man gathers what another man spills."
  22. I recommend against experimenting with that in order to find out your liability position. You know how to reach me, though, if your experiment fails. Edit to add: In fairness to Beats, there is a defence in such matters, called "voluntary assumption of risk". I believe that this is what Beats is alluding to. It comes down to the facts of each situation as to whether or not the defence will work. [color:purple](I plan to plead that in Beats' Statement of Defence after his failed experiment.)
