  1. That's them? Well, it's a good thing I didn't throw my arms around the couple that I almost did. D-Rawk, I never did get any clue about where you were, either, from anyone.
  2. Are there any photos of Dr. Evil Mouse from either night? I tried to find him, but I didn't really know what I was looking for.
  3. That won't work. I look nothing at all like me.
  4. Ask velvet or carstairs to point me out. Many others could, too. And thanks for my anticipated gift!
  5. Someone please direct hux to this thread.
  6. That makes sense. I agree. The Island really is lacking in live music. There's no doubt about that.
  7. Who says the music-scene is dead in Ontario? I can only speak for the GTA, and surrounding area like Hamilton, but I have to pick and choose the shows I attend, mainly because I would otherwise be seeing five bands per week, every week. I think that if you have an interest in a wide array of different styles of music, there is almost no end to what is out there in this neck of the woods.
  8. I should add, though, that I often don't listen to the band the day of the show, and I won't be listening to nero. on my way to Ottawa.
  9. It occurs to me that I have had a nero-show blasting out of my office for the last few hours. When I arrived at 7:30 am, that wasn't a problem, but there seem to be a lot of other people here now. Whatever. They can learn to rock.
  10. And if you don't mind a little drive, of only about 25 minutes I believe, Don Ross is playing in Duncan on February 10. He is arguably the greatest living guitarist in the world, at least on acoustic. I'll be seeing him in Hamilton this month. DJMelbaToast, if you don't know of him, go! You may remember seeing Don Alder at Bonfire Fest. He is much like Don Ross, but also reveres him the way millions of us do. Don Alder actually has a song on his disc called "DR DR", which is short for "Don Ross Don Ross".
  11. Larry, here's a show not-to-be missed! Themasses are coming to Victoria, next week.
  12. That's all fine, but it really comes down to enforcing the copyright. Unless companies plan to actually sue individual people to quell soon-to-be-illegal downloads and recordings, legislation won't matter. I have to wonder whether it is, in fact, economically viable to go after consumers in Canada. There simply aren't a fraction of the number in this country as there are in the USA, so it may not be worth the money to police this. It would also be very difficult to investigate and police such infringement as people making copies of legally-purchased material, for their own use (presuming such a "fair use" exception is not included in the proposed legislation). Copyright law has always been good at addressing large infringers of copyright, but bad at addressing small infringers. Guys selling bootleg Ralph Lauren shirts on the street are rarely targeted, and the people who buy those shirts are almost never targeted. The factory producing the shirts, though, or the importer bringing them in is usually the target. Now, the above being said, in the case of music/video downloads, there has been litigation in the USA to go after the end-user for such infringement, as a deterrent to others; so I'm not counting out the RIAA or Jack Valenti just yet. Interesting; at the very least.
  13. Thanks Brad and Ollie. You're ugly Booche.
  14. Thirty whole minutes? Clearly, you think I prepare much more carefully than I truly do. If I can't learn a case in 4 minutes, it's not worth my time. Like I said to the judge the other day, "Your Majesty..."
  15. Yes. [color:purple]Don't you realize that makes me far too important to research this stuff myself?
  16. As I gear up to leave Toronto today, it occurs to me that I don't even know what venue I'm going to, let alone where it is. What venue is nero. playing at tonight? Where is it? Specifically, where is it compared to the Crowne Plaza Hotel (which is at 101 Lyon St.)? I am guessing I can walk from the hotel? Details, please.
  17. Given that I am currently dressed formally, as I do most days, I think I'd prefer to 'dress down' tonight. I think the novelty of this idea may be lost on those of us who wear suits daily.
  18. She doesn't hang out in these parts too often, but she does have a profile on the Skank .

    NERO FRIDAY

    hahahahaha ! No doubt.
  20. Lassie (my wife) and I met about nine years ago in Kingston, when we worked at the same climbing gym. One day we were rock-climbing at the Kingston Mills. I was climbing, and Lassie was belaying. I heard her speaking to someone, and looked down to find her talking to an entire class of children, from a local school. They were there with their teacher. It turns out that Lassie and I had taught these kids to climb at the climbing gym, and they recognized us. Of course, much of what you teach kids is about safety and respecting the environment where you climb, and such, and I could hear Lassie (speaking in her 'instructor's voice') explaining to the kids what I was doing, and how it related to those topics. As Lassie was speaking, I was climbing, and I climbed up to a really old dead tree, actually just the trunk from a dead tree, that protruded from the cliff. It was about ten feet tall, and probably six feet wide. As I used this dead tree for leverage, while Lassie was teaching about safety, respecting the environment, etc., I completely dislodged the tree, which fell crashing to the ground 20 or 30 feet below, exploding into splinters and kicking up a humongous cloud of dust. As much as possible under those circumstances, I essentially turned around and took a bow from the side of the cliff. (The kids were entertained; at least.)
