  1. Well the last time they had a significant eruption at this volcano (about 200 years ago) it went on for a year and a half so the airlines had better figure something out quick because there's no saying this won't continue for even longer. Time to bring back the Titanic?
  2. Sudden Mass American Enlightenment Puzzles Congress and Causes National Security Alert Ignatious O'Reilly Sott.net Thu, 01 Apr 2010 00:00 EDT happy crowd © whenthemusicstops.com A sudden and unexplained mass enlightenment of the US population leads to jubilant celebrations Washington - President Obama, U.S. congressmen and their aides held an emergency four hour-long meeting Wednesday to decide what action to take to stem a sudden and unprecedented mass enlightenment of the US population that threatens to destabilize the Government and create a fiscal crisis. Millions of citizens jubilantly celebrated their new awareness as they suddenly realized they have been lied to all their lives on just about everything by their psychopathic, conscienceless leaders of major corporations, government and security agencies. Residents in all major cities across the United States awoke Wednesday morning complaining that they were experiencing an inexplicable mental clarity that was causing them to realize the way they were about to spend their day was utterly pointless, a potential health threat and would only add energy and finances to a powerful wealthy elite that had been ruling their lives since as long as they could remember. Congress was thrown into chaos when a majority of staff decided to simply stop showing up for work until their bosses resign; in a move of solidarity, energy companies turned off the power to government buildings and military bases, while water companies shut down their water supply; repair people refused to carry out repairs for the politically well-connected and television network staff refused to report the lies they are routinely ordered to tell by their editors. One Chicago resident's report was consistent with many similar accounts coming in from across the country. Joe, 42 told us how he had become aware of the diversionary, divide and conquer machinations of the psychopathic oligarchs, especially in relation to abortion, health care, immigration, global warming, peak oil, 9/11, fake terrorism, both current wars and past wars, 'necessary police actions', empire building and resource plundering, left vs right, evolution vs creationism, fundamentalists vs everybody else! "Wow! I sort of felt things weren't right but to suddenly be able to see the true nature of all the lies we've been bombarded with by media and Big Government is just mind-boggling," Joe exclaimed. "The public seems to have finally understood that they're so sick and going bankrupt because of the FDA/AMA medical mafia and Big Pharma's Gestapo death grip over absolutely everything! I've noticed how food companies, Monsanto and Big Pharma's share prices have exploded over the past few years," said Joe. "I can see it's because they have bought Congress and have a complete monopoly over our food supply, health and non-existent consideration for others' well-being." Reports are flooding in of people deciding to buy or trade for goods with hand crafters in their own region instead of shopping at Wal-Mart. Rather than buying GMO foods at the supermarket chain stores, they've formed co-ops with their neighbors, bought fresh food in bulk and are getting together to can foods, smoke meats and pickle vegetables - followed by a barbecue. Feeling so connected and enthused by that, ordinary people across the nation are organizing all kinds of meetings to learn all the old skills that their grandparents knew that made them independent. People are leaving the cities in droves and, en masse, have established themselves on previously restricted government land. This resulted in a veritable frenzy of house-building and barn raising parties followed, once again, by barbecues where home-made pickles were enjoyed by all. The reasons for the mass-awakening are as yet unclear. One possible explanation has been given by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency where officials have discovered that the normally high levels of fluoride added to the nation's drinking water were "accidentally omitted." It's suspected that workers at water plants are responsible. Government Health officials have advised all citizens to carry on working as normal, eat lots of fast-food and stay glued to their TV sets in the hope that any thoughts generated in people by seeing the reality of the situation will be pacified by toxins, apathy and a return to the steady atrophy of their brains. Citizens have been urged by the Obama administration to report anyone they witness behaving in a non-consumer-capitalist manner to Homeland Security who, with the help of FEMA, will permanently detain anyone found more than 5 meters from a Television screen.
  3. Pretty wild. This eruption could go on for days, months or years....which of course could be a huge problem for the northern European airlines and travelers besides causing other problems of course. I wonder how Bjork's island is doing?
  4. Happy news! That makes for happy days-I know you'll have plenty of those. Enjoy!
  5. All those things are a shame as Velvet says. But as has been pointed out it is not the protesters that stopped the show but the organizers. Protesters always say the kind of things they said-they just don't usually win. Of course she can spin this since that is what she does. Billy Bob and Bill Maher will be slagging Canada again as she is doing now and go on as ignorantly as they came. The truth I see is that she wimped out and really shouldn't have been such credibility to be seen as a 'speaker' in the first place but rather as a political entertainer/comedian-which of course she can't do since she isn't really funny. I'm not sure anyone who talks all the smack she does should be given much credibility.
  6. I can assure you no keytarist would ever attempt such a riff. At best they would suffer an immediate carpal tunnel collapse, at the worst they would degenerate to such a level of raving lunacy that would result in them being a complete....well.....keytarist for lack of a better word.
  7. Those are some serious allegations. You had better have a good lawyer and you had better hope he is not in the depths of an ether binge because as we all know there is nothing so pathetic. ....and how could I describe this riff to you....and would I want to...?.....you guys want the riff too don't you...egad I'm surrounded...and lizards everywhere.....
  8. The Rite Of Spring; love it! It might be too bombastic at times for babies no?.....?...couldn't hurt too much though I suppose as beauty is beauty after all...
  9. That's the thing about the Dead magic....it connects with you even when you're not expecting it...it always seems to happen; even now. it's more than synchronicity to me. I remember tripping years ago in the winter woods at a cottage. We had dead music playing to the stars and I thought why is Cassidy playing AGAIN??? Just then I looked down at the snow near the frozen silver lake and noticed wolf tracks. I looked up and some wolves were looking into me knowingly before vanishing into the darkened trees. I knew I was in their dream as much as they were in mine. I don't know maybe it was the roses.
  10. I remember thinking at the time that the band didn't play quite as 'hot' as I had become accustomed to during the eighties. That may be true but they certainly played alot 'better' in this 89/90 time frame; much more listenable than the wilder days of the earlier eighties.
  11. Didn't anyone watch the vote in the house for the historic health care in the USA? .....Trey wasn't there but it was still pretty cool....in fact Trey cool
  12. One of my fave Easy to Love You.....great Scarlet Fire as well as has been noted. Must Have Been the Roses became my song with my wife that night too as I was looking at her and her long brown hair just as Jerry sang that line....she was fussing over our baby daughter at the time and I was getting frustrated-Jerry brought me right back as he has done so many times over the years. Our Broken Angel always shedding a little light in the strangest of places when you look at it right despite his battles with his own Demons. I had to learn the hard way too brother. Love you Jerry! ....and someone renew Hux's meds wouldya...
  13. Apt response on your part. For my part it may be more appropriate to say maybe I shouldn't have smoked that dube before watching her address the house. She seemed whacked compared to the republican who spoke before her...complete with apparent dry mouth-of course she got the results which is all that matters.
  14. ...before addressing the House...ah well....
  15. 'twas a good speech.....what's with all the Phil lovers though....c'mon! I never was much of a prog-rocker but Genesis definitely deserves to be in the Hall! Were they all there? I didn't recognize Peter Gabriel in any of the shots I saw.
  16. How freaky is that! you really are a super freak. We did mainly play in the Ottawa area and certainly more in Montreal than Toronto....we may have only ever played Toronto at that Lee's Palace gig I mentioned-I don't recall exactly. I'll have to see if I have the tape of that gig we are talking about....Vik was mentioning that gig the other day and it brought back memories....
  17. Cool....yes we had lots of GREAT gigs in Montreal! McGill University comes to mind though we played other places that I can't remember the names of. I remember we did a gig right when the first Gulf War broke out and our sista Vicki Fraser got on stage and BELTED out Knocking on Heaven's Door with us...man the hairs on the back of my hairs were standing up....everyone melted into that number big time!
  18. My 3 children were all born at home with a midwife, myself and my wife of course. In my experience she didn't want any kind of other noise going on at the time-I had to turn the hockey game off and everything (kidding-just kidding).. You will want whatever you want of course. I can`t think of anything better than what you mention; I`m sure Mickey has given this lots of profound thought, he is the most profound drummer I can think of in the rock and roll pantheon.... Babies seem to relate to music with strong steady rhythm such as in rock and roll etc since it reminds them of the heartbeat which has been their song since conception.....that being said if you want music I`m sure anything you want will be fine.....I`d hate to see death metal but that`s just me....
  19. Longbottom was definitely in the days before burning cds of shows etc. I have a lot of cassettes though....we never thought of selling them.... There are two problems with the recordings; our best mindblowing shows always seemed to have screwed up in the recording process as if we were cursed....tape deck screwing up or too much clipping or something...always something, the main problem is that we were not all that good....it was really the kind of thing where you had to be there....it was more the vibe and energy that was impressive and moving. I was not competent on guitar and the only really good musicians we had were the bass player and drummer. Our bass player Joe Burns was not even really into the Dead or hippy scene but was a brother nonetheless and enjoyed it in his own way. For my part I was always into music but never was too interested in the technical aspects of music and mainly saw the importance of the gestalt event and cosmic/social ramifications of our events. I have since become a respectable player and writer. I realize I may be over critical of the Longbottom tapes but there it is.... That being said there are literally a few passages in all the hours of tape I have that could stand up to some listening....maybe I'll see if I can retrieve them and put them on my website or something. Anyone who would be interesting in digitizing this collection of cassettes is welcome though as it may be of some significance some day....who knows....we were one of the first jambands i am aware of (coming before PHISH etc) and certainly the first one in Ottawa as we started in '85 or so with the first Earthball shows which we put together. They may have some historical importance though I`m not sure how much they can be enjoyed.....I will say it was really something to be there at the time......I haven`t seen Ottawa audiences getting down so hard and in such great numbers since.....it was something for sure.... I still think that that `something` is as important as the music itself if not more so.
  20. Hi there....I don't know if I would work to hard at reuniting TMNS but I would certainly play a gig if all the stars aligned. I would love to get a band together like TMNS in the sense that it was jam oriented, included Grateful Dead music as well as other music. I don't see a big need for a Dead cover band now since there are others doing it and more importantly the Dead and/or Furthur are doing it. That being said I would do it if people really wanted it as i do enjoy it. My musical efforts are mostly geared towards writing and recording (however misguided that may seem-the link is in my sig for the music I have recorded so far). I would love to have a good jam band together but so far all efforts have been thwarted for one reason or another due to apathy and other circumstances one of which being the fact that I am the worst organizer ever....someone else needs to steer this slow coach..... Coincidentally in my band before TMNS Longbottom (mid 80's-90's) I toured briefly with Days of You where we headlined for each other the main shows being Barrymores where they opened for us and Lee's Palace where we opened for them.....other cities as well which I can't quite recall...we must have been having fun or something....the only down side was when I realized one of my riffs (that was not earth shattering but quite unique) ended up in one of their songs....ah well I'll still be using it in the song I intended it for; a still unreleased song that is quite nearly finished in a recording project that is quite nearly finished......that's how old some of these songs I am releasing are. By the bye if anyone is playing a gig and wants to play one of my songs feel free. Credit where credit is due is nice and if you make a ton of money off the deal I wouldn't mind a sniff.....but songs are for playing....
  21. The only version of Hallelujah I haven't like so far is Bo Jovi-I mean whaddupdat? I love all the covers on this album-very strong collection-classic I'd say:

    Alicia Keys

..ok keytar lovers-she does a keytar duel with her guitar player (he plays axe)...you know you don't want to miss this!

    Alicia Keys

I'll be there but that's because I'm a stagehand. It is interesting to note for Ottawa folks that she is doing preproduction for her tour here in Ottawa. We'll be setting her up on Monday and doing rehearsals all week as she builds her show.
  24. Would that be 'One Day I Walk' or is it a different tune? Anyhoo I thought the opening ceremonies were excellent. Maybe a little too reliant on video but the video was awesome!! Some of the best I've ever seen. KD was awesome and I personally never tire of that song though I realize it has been done an awful lot (the worst being Bon Jovi-whaddup dat?)....I think it is one of the best songs ever written and what a showcase performance in the eyes of the world it was. Many people from around the world probably have never heard it....
