  1. I buy all my pc stuff at pccyber...cheapest and a full online catalogue....
  2. Rock on guys! If I could work my way back up to being broke I'd love to come down.....ironically I'm working anyhow..... Break some legs!
  3. Thanks for the reminder-I did go out and look and it was beautiful! Was that Jupiter putting the lovely exclamation mark in the Heavens?
  4. ...eeeewwwwww..... Anyhoo-good on ya bro for getting and keeping her going!
  5. Too bad about Merle but there's still an outstanding group of musicians-I would be psyched to see what Neko Case and T-Bone would do together on it's own!
  6. Do the right thing and come to Ottawa and get Terry Calder to do it!
  7. ...pretty much... The hood is getting a bit more affluent so some landlords are fixing places up to rent for more $ while some are still in the slumlord business. I would guess that a lot of the new crammed tiny condos are going to sell rather than rent by the folks that are building them....of course they may be bought by landlords rather than resident owners....who knows? They're playing with the zoning restrictions I suppose-you can't build higher than 3 or 4 stories on most streets here. Before too long the slumlords will not be tolerated I suppose. Some of them are probably doing quite well now; there was a 6 unit apt building on my street that sold for $40,000 about 15 years ago-I'm not sure what it would sell for now-I would guess 10-15 times that....or you could just soak in the $600-900(?) per month, per unit....
  8. Well....for one thing some people don't like crack houses.... I don't want it to become condo land around here but I don't think it will....?.....who knows.. Living in one of the hundred+ year old houses in the hood I can verify that some of them are really not worth saving and putting tons of $ into. Some are of course and I hope a good balance is kept. It's not as if tons of houses are being ripped down to build multi unit condos; though of course if people are buying the properties for rental income you can bet they're going to cram as many units into the property as possible. There have been a few interesting architecture experiments and a few eco-houses built too. Some of the nicer old houses have been fixed up rather than torn down too. I can't think of a really great place that has been torn down-hopefully it stays that way. My friend Glenn's house was torn down which is sad since he fixed up antique cars and had an auto garage grandfathered into his property...sadly he was uninsured and had a fire leaving him with the only option of selling. There is a sort of multi unit place going up there but it's for the new owner and his kids' family so that's not so bad.
  9. Cool....I think 'I Kissed a Girl' could be a hit sung by the right person; oh that I were that bird!
  10. ....now that would be something wouldn't it.....
  11. Does it include Evans Field House - Northern Illinois University October 29, 1977 I don't know what got into Jerry (well a few possibilities come to mind) but the opening Might as Well has him just going right over the top with enthusiasm; screaming and freaking at the end especially. There's no way they could have kept that tempo all night of course but the crowd must really have wondered what was coming next with that opening.... Here's a link to listen to a nice matrix: http://www.archive.org/details/gd1977-10-29.mtx.hansokolow.98032.flac16
  12. It is cool what they have done to the joint. It's nice to have it in the hood. The first time I went there was about 25 years ago (I've lived around here a long time) and it was really a rough place...as was the whole area actually. I live in Mechanicsville actually which people always thought included Hintonburg and the whole area was really rough when I moved into my current home (20 years ago).....the swat team pulled up in front of my house once a month back then.....things are a little better now eh? The place I lived in 25 years ago when I would have gone to the Elmdale was the place in Hintonburg that was in the news a few months ago when it finally got torn down-the neighbours were so happy it made the friggin' news! It wasn't the worst place in the hood back when I lived there I can assure you! There were a lot of father rapers and mother stabbers around back then that made the local Outlaws Clubhouse seem like the most upstanding house on the block!
  13. I'll never get over walking out my backdoor, down the river and seeing Furthur-next time not so many brownies though.... Jamming w/Hux etc at the Carleton-nice to gig again and just down the street to boot... Cottaging with the family; swimming with the kids, generally carrying on and playing guitar with the Elves all night long....
  14. Interesting take on that number. The chorus for this song has always been one of my pet peeves I must admit though. The rest of the lyrics are quite good-at least message wise, but the whole 'chasing waterfalls' imagery always really annoyed me; don't chase trees either, don't chase mountains, don't chase pylons or parked cars.... btw llama I was just digging the vintage Hamilton postcards from your links-very cool! ....just sayin'....
  15. I noticed that one too-love the dube of course....you didn't actually make it though did you? I'm guessing it must be a few years old....still really great!
  16. OTTAWA — Ottawa police had to call in the National Capital Commission to help rescue a deer that wandered into the Rideau Canal near the Pretoria bridge. Police received a call earlier Friday after a deer was spotted in the Hawthorne Avenue area, but at around 12 p.m., reports came in of a deer in the canal. "It's swimming around," said Sgt. Mike Haarbosch. "We're just enlisting the help of the NCC, trying to wrangle it. We're waiting for some resources to get down there," he said. Shortly after 1 p.m. they managed to get the deer in a boat, according to a witness. The deer was taken by truck to be released in the Mer Bleue area, says NCC spokesman Jean Wolff. Haarbosch said police did not have to close down any roads in the vicinity. The operation was being handled from the Queen Elizabeth Driveway side of the canal. © Copyright © The Ottawa Citizen
  17. ....and is undoubtedly the deer in the news getting pulled out of the canal. Did you get that deer liquored up-you know there are laws against that kind of thing. If this deer sues you guys are screwed!
  18. ....hope I didn't bum your space Hux....thought you might have liked coming around and seeing the party already started!
  19. Does he have thunder? Is that what that suxing sound is? Sorry though....I was too psyched and I don't think he's getting out too much electronically....I hope they're really digging their new life. That's such a magical time I can say from much experience!
  20. Well he did!! Not single handedly mind you but he did his part! A beautiful little girl on labour day no less. My youngest daughter was born 7 years ago on labour day as an interesting side note. Congrats Hux!
  21. Reminds me of the progression of my musical journey...whatever>Rush>Led Zeppelin.....Zeppelin with all of their folk, funk and blues roots lead to discovering those forms of music-you had to search for that stuff back then as it wasn't all over the place like it is now since there were no computers or internet and radio was very limited. God bless and RIP Brian Murphy who played this music on Chez and was an expert....passed away a few years ago. I was sad to see how he lived poor in a little apartment after being let go by Chez once they lost interest in having any program promoting blues and the historical side of music. He gave me some great tapes though.... >Neil Young as all aspiring singer/guitarists around here learned to play using his songs back then>the Band etc.....all those great bands that weren't all over radio>first Grateful Dead concert in Wonderland 1984 with the Band-I thought it would be an excellent country rock type concert.... ...........WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dosed about 5 am after partying all the way there and when the Dead took the stage my mind was completely blown! For a teenager in the 80s who felt out of time and place with a yearning for rock and roll and mystical music in the day of new wave and pop it was unbelievable that it was all there in front of me....I had despaired that I would never see music that satisfied those longings..... It is hard to compare seeing the Dead in the 80s to anything now since there is such an unbelievable amount of choices and access to music now. Back then there was cheesy AM radio, New Wave wasteland and a bit of classic rock and hairbands. It seemed like the world had forgotten any kind of 'magical' music that some of the bands from the 60s and 70s created or discovered. To stumble into the Grateful Dead wonderland where that time was never forsaken and was moving forward with all flags flying was totally magical and unexpected. They really were the only torch bearer for all that stuff and carried it as far and long as they could.....and with more genius than most if not all could muster..... By the time they were nearing the end in the 90s I heard about this band Phish that was 'just like the Grateful Dead!!'.....um ...... not really.... I didn't think the comparison fit at all and had no appreciation of the mindless party scene they attracted and couldn't see how people compared them.....they seemed to grow out of the overflowing Dead scene and I don't know whether they could have gotten as far as they have without that start. Obviously they are great at what they do though and I don't even care about the comparison any more. The level the Dead operated on was different from the external similarities they had with PHISH; great musicianship, jamming and devoted fans. It's like comparing yoga to touching your toes. I don't need to compare them personally here except for the fact that I would say-yes another PHISH will come along.....another Grateful Dead..?...I am not so sure......maybe it's not needed anymore....? I don't know or maybe a similar phenomenon with a different focus than a band will occur....who knows...? There were just SO MANY convergences of just the right people, environments, historical factors for 'it' to 'happen again'. Something will come to fill the void left by the Grateful Dead-I'm just not sure what. PHISH is still around so we don't need to worry about their legacy yet. All that being said go ahead and do yoga or touch your toes-it's all the same to me....heck do both if you want. Touch your yoga and do your toes even....
  22. Prince's more recent r&b outings were awesome! Michael-ABC 123 always gets me grooving. I haven't listened to Rush in years but saw a link to some older stuff on Youtube-Fountains of Lamneth, Panacea, Rivendell-stuff like that. That was the stuff I loved way back when. Rush and then Led Zeppelin were my introduction to magical-mystical music-music was harder to come by or be exposed to in the 70s......I used to listen to By Tor and the Snow Dog, the Necromancer, Dazed and Confused, No Quarter....(live albums-and I do mean 'albums' in the dark every night on my turntable to trip off to sleep.....ah memories.... ....another thing music does.....better than smell...?
