  1. I don't know how they can tell you how many hours are left on the cartridge but anyway, get yourself a stylus cleaner. It's just a little jar of liquid with a wee brush. I clean mine pretty much before every side I listen to if I'm listening to old records, not as much when listening to new records. This is a very important step, don't not do it. Don't be using no q-tips. That won't work They're prob only about 10 bucks a bottle and a bottle lasts a really long time. They should not be too hard to find. And you're going to want a little non static brush to clean dust off records as you are playing them. Also prob around 10 bucks give or take. These 2 little purchases will help you extend the stylus' life and make everything sound good. Remember, clean is good, dirty is crackles.
  2. I believe he still has them.

Only if you promise to make a curly 'stash. It's all the rage amongst you hipsters.
  6. I'm in the middle of a bathroom reno so prob can't make it to Hamilton this weekend, but ya never know... I get around. If we can figure it out, it's yours. With a free turntable and a little negotiating we might be able to get you into those q-acoustics.
  7. I was right, those are the LSA's he has. Here's a link to the ad he has for the Q-Acoustics (also pretty sweet speakers) http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/649075602-q_acoustics_1030_see_photos/ Hope this helps.
  8. I think these are what the LSA's look like: dude, jump on that shit, rob somebody if you have to.
  9. I emailed my bro this is what he replied: He also has the amp found below, for a bargain of only $24,700, 1000watt/chan, 100 lbs. ya know, for when you're ready to upgrade If you could squeeze those lsa's into your budget, you'd be getting some pretty amazing speakers at an awesome deal. Any good system shoukld start with great speakers. You're not going to find that sort of quality/price at future shop. I can get more info or put you in touch with him if either of those will help you out. I have a dual turntable here collecting dust I'd give to you if I could figure out a way to get it to you. I love seeing people get into this shit.
  10. How much are you planning on spending for your speakers and turntable? I'm not sure what he still has but my brother was doing a bit of liquidating of some of his older stock. He's pretty busy (works full time as a teacher and helping his wife with her business) so he was moving more into the extremely high end to narrow his clientele. He might have some sweet speakers kicking around. Not sure though, even before he decided to upgrade his shop, it was still pretty high end. Sometimes he gets things on trade in that he doesn't have on his web page. arcadia audio Sometimes I can get friends deals... sometimes. He sells me stuff at cost. :content:
  11. I drove right by your place a whole bunch this summer going back and forth to Sarnia for work and for border crossings. I'd love to come down and check it out.
  12. oh yeah, you'd be rockin' with that one. The speaker posts will either screw around the wire or you can use banana clips, perfect. I'm still more of a 70's guy. For around the same price as that you could probably find a killer Marantz or Sansui. Something about the big knobs and fine machining with the older stuff just knocks me out vs. swithches and led's. I've always been a big fan of Yamaha stereo's too so I think that one is a very good choice.
  13. Canuck Audio Mart isan excellent place to find used gear. You might even find a really cool tube amp in your price range there. Don't forget to save some of your budget to buy some records too. Having a turntable stereo without records is kind of boring. Me, I have lots of records and a broken amp right now, that's kind of boring too
  14. I don't think that Kenwood would work. Weirdness' advice was very good but I'd go even older than 90's if you can. 70's gear is the baddest ass. Looks sexier and are often built better and sound better. You can still find this stuff on kijiji pretty easily. It's a never ending "upgrading" once you get into it but definitely spend any extra $$ on getting as quality speakers as you can get within your budget. I hooked a friend up with a really kick ass Thorens turntable (my brother owns a hi fi business), and then he went to future shop and bought really shitty speakers that he paid way too much for, and ruined the whole fucking thing imo. When looking for a turntable, look for something heavy. I could go on a bit more here but something heavy will lose less vibration (lost sound) thru the body. You want the vibration to go out through the needle, usually a good heavy turntable will help with this. What you want is something made out of wood rather than plastic. That might bring the price point up a bit and you will do just fine with a plastic turntable, just saying if you find a wood one out there or something with a heavy plinth go for it.
  15. I never saw a single security guard the whole time I was at Delfest and I never saw a single problem or need for them. Gentlemen of the Road had a ton of cops and even a a six wheeled fire truck ATV with helmet wearing Firemen on it with a ton of hoses and other contraptions. It was crazy. But again, I saw no problems and I didn't see the cops hassling anyone. Festival goers are pretty good at policing themselves and the "services" should be handy in case of emergency but should otherwise fuck off. It's annoying seeing them everywhere and without reason. I don't know what the hell they were planning with all that hose on the ATV. Maybe at burning man, I could understand the firehose but at Gentlemen of the road, I found it very confusing.
  16. Old Crow ripped the roof off the joint. People were really digging the Mumford and Sons. I enjoyed the three songs we stayed for, then all their songs started to sound the same to me so we left. I was amazed at how many bands/artists are trying to sound like Mumford. Not meaning to be negative, just my observation. I think it would be hard for ANY band to follow OCMS but it's always been a thing for me with Mumford and Sons, with their songs sounding the same to me. They sure have spawned a cult of really good hair cuts though. Hair dressers must love Mumford and Sons. I really enjoyed the Justin Townes Earle set. Ed Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero's were pretty good also. The best part of that band is the girl singer. I could have listened to her sing all night. The town of Simcoe did an awesome job. The street festival was really great and the whole town seemed to be behind it and super appreciative that a festival of this size was being held in their town. The random pianos in the middle of the street for people to play was cool. Seeing Diesel Dog twice during the street fest was a good thing. The second set they did had an interesting mix. Their new drummer is great and it was cool to see a mix between the Allnighters and DD playing, with the bass player from the Allnighters taking over for Ian and Ryan's son on the trombone. Kudos to the organizers for bringing it there and kudos to the town for supporting it. This area of Ontario has been hard hit and it must have been very uplifting to have such a positive experience in Norfolk. I think I got this right for the most part: Old Crow Medicine Show Aug 24. Simcoe Gentlemen of the Road Stopover Carry me back to Virginia Alabama high test Caroline Bootleggers son Unshackled tonight Mary's kitchen Humdinger CC rider Told me 10000 lies?? Tear it down (w banjo from Mumford, Winston Marshall ) Take 'em away Wagon wheel Take a whiff on me Tell it to me
  17. I'm not into this band but I agree, tickets for both nights will probably sellout super fast. My neighbor is going to cream himself when he finds out.
  18. I can hear all the phishheads justifying phish in their heads right now and thinking "they don't know what they're talking about, fucking phish rules". That's what I did.

    Allgood 2013

Weather had its moments. There was a pretty big lightening storm that delayed everything on Saturday. Lucky nobody was hit really, it was pretty intense. DSO did an acoustic set. They were having tons of problems with sound issues, because of all the lightening. Took them a while but they ended up figuring it out. Fruition, who seemed like they were going to be really great got shut down in their second song because the stage was getting flooded. It was hotter than hell the first couple days. Highlights were YMSB of course because they fucking rock. Primus was pretty cool. I was tentative because that band scared me once, but it was very entertaining. Didn't really like the Grace Potter show, just wasn't suited to my pace, especially before the Stringdusters/Furthur sets. Incredible Stringdusters absolutely killed it. They blew me away. It's amazing what acoustic bands are doing these days. Jackson had a great time, I think he missed Tonin though. Sara did well too. She's quite the trooper. During the hot part, she was ready to find a motel that's for sure but she made it.
