  1. Instead of covering future Phish, they should have covered past Phish, a la say 93 or something.
  2. I'm listening to it on Rdio: http://www.cybergrass.com/node/2987 Grisman Releases "Old & in the Way: Live at the Boarding House" Shows published by BMNN on Wed, 10/02/2013 - 00:30 Old & in the WayForty years ago on a monday night during the first week of October, a bluegrass band, Old & In The Way, walked on to the stage of The Boarding House in San Francisco. The band included two of Bill Monroe's former Blue Grass Boys, guitarist Peter Rowan and fiddle virtuoso Vassar Clements, mandolinist David Grisman and Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead picking banjo along with his bass playing sidekick, John Kahn. That historic event has been released by Acoustic Oasis as Old & In The Way: Live at the Boarding House. The two disc set features two sets from October, 1, 1973 and two more sets from October 8, 1973. A week later the same group played there again and recorded the second of these sessions. Old & In The Way would become one of the most influential groups in Bluegrass history. Now forty years later, both shows are being released as High Definition (24 bit, 96 khz) downloads on Grisman's www.AcousticOasis.com. This will be the first release of the complete shows by this unique ensemble and includes 55 tracks, 14 of which have never been released in any format. Old & in the Way made a huge impact on the bluegrass world. Not only did it feature former Blue Grass Boys, it also brought a new musical experience to the bluegrass community. The Boarding House shows were recorded by none other than Owsley Stanley III, aka "Bear." "Although we didn’t realize what an impact this music would have at the time, we had a lot of fun playing the bluegrass music we loved and these tapes reveal that in a big way,†Grisman said in a press release announcing the set. This anniversary album was released on October 1st which was also the 40th anniversary of the original recordings at the Boarding House. The first Old & In The Way album was released in 1975 and was hailed by some as being the "best selling bluegrass recording of all time." The 55 tracks on this historic collection are: Disc 1 "Home is Where the Heart Is" "Love Please Come Home" "Down Where The River Bends" "Kissimee Kid" "Pig in a Pen" "Uncle Pen" "Panama Red" "Midnight Moonlight" "White Dove" "Wild Horses" "Orange Blossom Special" "Old and in the Way" "Lonesome Fiddle Blues" Disc 2 "On And On" "Land of the Navajo" "Catfish John" "Til the End of the World Rolls 'Round" "Drifting Too Far from the Shore" "I'm Knocking On Your Door" "Old and in the Way Breakdown" "You'll Find Her Name Written There" "Jerry's Breakdown" "The Great Pretender" "Working on a Building" "High Lonesome Sound" "Wicked Path Of Sin" "Blue Mule"

  8. Saturday was better than Friday and Sunday was better than Saturday. Mike has laryngitis according to a phriend of mine.
  9. I was a personal witness to the Toadhouse warm-up for this show. We all know the Fat Cats are awesome but what you might not yet know is how awesome Toadhouse is. This show would be a good time to find out for yourself These guys are preparing to take over the world as I see it.
  10. wish I could bro. ^^ Listening to last nights show right now. I'm not a hater but they have some work to do, to get into form. Hopefully by the time they get to Rochester they'll have shaken off the dust. Vocals and harmonies, way off. I know not to expect Adele like vocal heroics out of these guys but...ouch, not good.
  11. awesome. Thanks for sharing. Has Crosseyed and Painless been something you guys have done before? Such a wicked tune, one of my fav's. (I'm seeing some Phish influence from this summer in this set)
  12. How awesome is this? I can't wait to check this place out. Maybe for preshow festivities some time all gibbled up would be especially fun. http://www.ripleyaquariums.com/canada/
  13. They've seemed to do a pretty good job of keeping the specifics under their hats, which is probably best. I like it when bands do that. Like when Shonna and Neff left the Truckers a day before their New Years run last year, they just wished them luck. This is the best I could find in about the 10 minutes of effort I put into it (my max attention span for most things lol). My guess... booze, Critter said something like "I quit, why don't you too" to which Willy replied "Go Fuck yourself you asshole."
  14. He's awesome but what an idiot. He quit OCMS. That was dumb.
  15. Walshy McBeard in his pre-beard stage playing some country music.
  16. My vinyl copy should be arriving any day now. Pretty stoked.
  17. Del's new album.
  18. Congrats on the setup, you're going to love it! It's such a fun way to listen to music and very social. Make sure you share it with your friends.
  19. That's less than $9 a record,w/o the extras. Price is very reasonable imo.
  20. Static is one of the causes of crackles when you listen to vinyl. Don't go quoting me because I've been known to be wrong more times than I'm right, but basically a needle is a stationary object and the record is a moving object. so you get a "ballons stuck to a wall" situation happening and hair sticking up, which is all fun and shit at a birthday party, but makes your records sound like shit. The last thing you want to do is create more static by holding a stationary brush over a moving record (or a moving brush over a stationary record), hence the non static brush. The needle is very sensitive and will pick up everything. A bunch of dust collected up on the needle will sound crackly and shity, so you want to brush the dust off (the needle and the record), but want to avoid static, which will also make noise through the needle. I'm kinda drunk, hope that made sense. you'll get it. just start playing records and you'll start to pick out your weak points and trying to improve on them. One of the first things you will find that needs improving, is keeping your stylus clean and records dust free, and then...... etc.
  21. I don't think the alcohol would work as well there's no lubrication and probably not very good for the cartridge. I don't like using that stuff on my records to clean them either. I prefer "Pledge" over the "Off" though, gives it more of a waxy sound, which is what you're looking for in these situations, and I like the lemony scent.
