In my mind, this is a great trade whether it works out or not. It's exactly what Philly needed outside of a goalie. He's now signed until he retires plus they made the move before he turned 35 so the moment he retires his cap hit comes off the books (unless I am mistaken here but I am pretty sure that is how it works). No wonder he cost so much at the NHL Draft: The Philadelphia Flyers have locked up veteran defenseman Chris Pronger to a seven-year, $35 million contract extension.
