Paul Simon is still an amaizing songwriter... and i think that borrowing ideas is all apart of music, I haven't read the story about Paul yet, regardless the topic of royalty rights can be very sticky. I've been in Bands that have argued over writing credits, but there is something called neighbouring rights which I hope that Chameleon can comment on, these rights are supposed to reward the musicians who come up with the licks, solos and melodies that help define the essence of the song. interesting!

A native of Boston, he is considered by many to be the greatest MC in Hip Hop history. While that may be debatable, it can be said with certainly that no other MC has released such a high-quality body of music over such a long period of time, starting with the formation of Gang Starr in 1986. Guru’s hard-edged and streetwise yet soulful and enlightened lyrics, together with the beatmaking genius of DJ Premier, resulted in seven Gang Starr releases, including: Step into the Arena (1991), Daily Operation (1992), Moment of Truth (1998) and The Owners (2003). While groups such as The Roots deserve their props for bringing together hip hop and live jazz-based instrumentation (and long before them, artists such as the Last Poets and Gil Scott-Heron brought the lyrical style to full bands), Guru’s Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1 (1993) is generally considered the first true jazz-rap fusion album. Jazzmatazz inspired an entire generation of hip hop/jazz projects such as Us 3, Digable Planets, and recently the great Carlos Santana’s collaborations with Wyclef Jean and other hip hop artists. Jazzmatazz Vol. 1 featured collaborations with foundational jazz players such as Roy Ayers, Donald Byrd, Branford Marsalis, Ronny Jordan and Lonnie Liston Smith. Jazzmatazz Vol. 2: The New Reality (1995) and Jazzmatazz Vol. 3: Streetsoul (2000) built on the concept by integrating R&B, reggae and soul; with a diverse range of musicians & vocalists such as Herbie Hancock, Isaac Hayes, Freddie Hubbard, Kenny Garrett, Erykah Badu, Me’shell N’degeocello, and Macy Gray. There could surely be no more appropriate headliner for Jazz by Genre V – Hip Hop Jazz than the MC who defined the fusion in popular music consciousness back in the day. Solar is the sound of 7 Grand Records, a partnership dedicated to evolving Guru’s music and in general bringing the very best of true New York City hip hop to the world. Filling the very large shoes of DJ Premier and then some, Superproducer Solar has created the soundscape for the new and improved Guru; and challenged him to push himself to new heights of his lyrical abilities. Not merely a beatmaker but a complete producer (he also writes rhymes and as such is able to give Guru complete concepts with which to work) Solar takes great pride in being a New York success story. Anne-Marie has worked for CBC Radio for the past several years, doing comedic commentaries and artistic treatments for news and current affairs programming; as well as producing innovative documentaries such as Flat Belly Blues, which also aired on the BBC.
