  1. I'd like to go to this, only 2 hours from my place. As long as Garth's wife, Maude, is not in the mix, I can see this being an incredible show. Jchameleon has gone to these rambles and say it's really intimate, NYE last year they did a pot luck and it was a very community feeling party.
  2. Joe's Pub, NYC Set List was something like this: Beggar In the Morning Old Mythologies Chealsea Deacon's Son Cloud Ooh, Belle Lord, I Just Can't Keep From Crying Encore w/ Jocie Adams & her band Let Me Let It Go Give The Devil Back His Heart I love how they said on the second song, ' we all live in Canada - home of best hockey team 'The Canadians'. Apparently that was said for the hockey player in the audience. In the audience: Don Was Dog Gone Blog Sean Avery Relix Brooklyn Vegan
  3. New Blog post: DONE DEAL: http://www.toronto.com/blog/post/703929--done-deal-new-deal-announce-farewell-show In the wake of Broken Social Scene's slightly ambiguous news, comes word that another important local musical institution has scheduled its Toronto farewell show. The New Deal, the local livetronica trio whose bassist (Dan Kurtz) is also part of Dragonette's core, had told fans earlier in the year that they would break up in 2011; only the time and place of their last Toronto show - Dec. 17 at the Opera House - is news. (Get ducats at Ticketweb.) The trio - Kurtz, drummer Darren Shearer, and keybaordist Jamie Shields - was formed in 1998 with occasional breakups, and drew a devoted audience for their knack for spontaneous (yet dance-worthy) compositions. Having come together in the course of a jam session at the Comfort Zone one late night (at the venue, are there any other kinds of nights?) they built themselves a following sufficient to tour the world and release seven live and studio albums.

  12. Coming off one of their biggest years to date, Canadian Live-Electro icons THE NEW DEAL have decided to call it day. With 10 records released and well over 1000 shows performed since the bands inception in 1998, tND has made an indelible mark as pioneers in the art of performing electronic music completely live and in real time. The band is signing off after a great final year of shows in their favourite North American cities. So then, why stop now? tND’s drummer, Darren Shearer explains “Looking at the current musical climate, we realized that weren't going to continue to be able put out new records every year and keep up the 80+ show touring schedule that is required of bands in our genre. It didn't feel fair to our fans, and wasn't the way we wanted our band to evolve. tND has always been about being creative in the moment, but we had gotten to the point where we needed either give it our all or move on. It feels right to end off here.†tND began out over 13 years ago as an anomaly, a hybrid of electronic and live, capturing the essence of electronic music for real, and on stage. Now, there are literally hundreds of bands across the U.S. emulating that same idea, and with dubstep and electro on the rise, even more groups are surfacing, continuing to push this once fringe, very underground style of music even further into the pop realm. In 2001 SPIN magazine called the New Deal "The Kraftwerk of the new Millennium", but it has taken over a decade to see what this band has been a part of creating, as dance music now reigns in the clubs and the airwaves. What’s next? Dan Kurtz will continue recording and performing with his mega-hit pop act “Dragonetteâ€, Jamie Shields will continue to play super-dad while scoring film and television music for his company “Studio Catâ€. Darren will be going west, where he has landed a gig in Los Angeles in film post- production. The New Deal will mark the end of their career with six special shows, ending on the legendary floating music festival, “Jamcruise†that will set sail to Jamaica and Haiti on Jan 9. The band will play their last show in the Caribbean to over 2500 lucky sea-goers, and it will be a great end to a journey that began at a basement-level after-hours club in downtown Toronto over 13 years ago.

  15. Yeah we're pleasantly surprised by the size of our place. It's subsidized by Columbia University... so it's in our price range. The woman who showed us the place, said apartments this size usually go for $3,000 USD! whoa nelly! We're at 120th & Broadway - it's called Morningside heights, we're just south of Harlem. Thanks Velvet, Northern Wish, Deranger, Backbacon and Shainhouse, I'm excited about the move. Not sure exactly what I'll be doing, but something along the lines of what I do now. Thanks everyone who's supported my shows, bands and promotions. Much love. here's the poster for Saturday's show:
